Error: "The search service is currently offline." when adding a rule to a site search scope

Posted By:      Posted Date: May 22, 2011    Points: 0   Category :C#

We have a portal on our SharePoint farm in which the users want to create a new search scope for that portal only (rather than me creating a global search scope). We are able to create the scope without problem, however when we click "add rules" I get the error message: "The search service is currently offline."

This isn't true though as the search server/indexer is fine and online. We are having problems with our logs so theres no way to troubleshoot this, but I'm wondering if anyone has any insight into the issue.

Error in / Application after adding employee search in webpart

Hello everyone,

I am working on sharepoint 2007 and I was editing the webpart of the software and after adding the predefined employee search table, the server has crashed while trying to access the server remotely with the following error message:

Error in / Application

However, while trying to login locally I have no problem and can easily login.

What will be the course of action in fixing this error.

Also the site is complaining of an invalid certificate even after adding an exception.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thank You,

Chris Stanko

Top-Level Search Scope not showing in Sub-Site

I've got a site 'B' created under site 'A' in SharePoint. When I'm at Site A, I can search and find things that exist in both A&B. However, when I'm in B, the 'highest' search scope I can pick is 'B.' I'd like to be able to select one step higher so that I can search A&B from any page. Is this possible?

Search Scope Default to "this site"

I am trying to limit the search on a SharePoint site to each individual site collection..  These sites are all on the same server.  I have found a way to do this by following the article below –

I change the dropdownmode on the masterpage to DropDownMode = "ShowDD_DefaultContextual"  this works for all my publishing sites.

Search Scope - Default to "This Site"

I have created a root level site collection via MOSS.  I have then added a site directory with both WSS and MOSS sites created underneath the site directory.  The default search for all of these sites is "All Sites".  Is there any way to make the default search for the team sites under the site directory "This Site"?

The issue is when users search for a topic using the "All Sites" scope, the results page is at the root level and it takes them out of their team site.  They then have to navigate back to the team site.

I am assuming that I am creating a WSS site when I use the "Team Site" template under "Create SIte" in the site collection page.  Is this correct?
