Linking to Documents in Sub-Folders in SharePoint

Posted By:      Posted Date: May 22, 2011    Points: 0   Category :C#

I have some sub-folders and files within a document library, when I create a link in a word document, the link will only open to the main docuement library. It defaults to that area folder even though the link seems to be pointing ti the sub-folder.  Basically the user will have to click twice to get to the desired document. Can someone please help with a solution? I am using SharePoint Server 2007.

Thanks Mary.

Sharepoint 2010 Properties of Documents, Folders and Reports

Hi! We're using Microsoft SharePoint 2010 for displaying reports. When we create a new Library (for Reports or Dashboards) when we edit some properties for them, like Report description, if we edit one thing of the report, the reports send us an error:

We tried so many times to fix it, because we are trying to create views and to hide some reports, or just write descriptions of them, but it's imposible, if I edit one propierty, there it comes the error.

Thank you very much for your help.

ErrorError
  • The underlying connection was closed: A connection that was expected to be kept alive was closed by the server.
    • Unable to read data from the transport connection: An existing connection was forcibly closed by the remote host.
      • Linking multiple paged documents, and using them on sharepoint.

        Hi guys,

I am having trouble creating a "Master" Word document that links to other "Child" Word documents that are more than one page in length.

For example, I have a Master document called "Introduction.doc" and two child documents called "Contact details.doc" and "Prices.doc".

How do I insert the documents so that my document would be structured as follows:

        Introduction:
        Sample text.........Sample text.........
        Sample text.........Sample text.........

        <<Prices.doc>>

        Sample text.........Sample text.........
        Sample text.........Sample text.........

        <<Contact details.doc>>

I can insert single paged documents into standard Word files just fine, but when trying to do this and open them up in Sharepoint the files don't work unless you check them out first... also, I cannot insert multiple paged documents whether using sharepoint or not.

Unable to perform fulltext search for documents in some folders in an SharePoint Document Library

Issue Description : Keywords from certain folders in the Document Library  is not searchable via full text search. For example, the keyword “4MB7106” is not searchable, even though the document is available in the document library. This is content search in a file in a document library, NOT a file name. Any ideas?

Web Service for uploading documents into SharePoint

WS UploadService is a web service written for Microsoft Office SharePoint Server 2007 and Windows SharePoint Services 3.0 and is meant for uploading documents into SharePoint. I have just uploaded the zip file to GotDotNet.com so it will take some time before the zip file appears in the list of downloads. For the time being, you can download the zip file from the following location

SharePoint document migration challenges when migrating files and folders

There are several challenges when migrating documents to Microsoft SharePoint. While these challenges can be overcome, they are a real pain if the migration source, content and file systems are not SharePoint friendly.

This article describes how to generate documents that contain data stored in SharePoint lists. The example demonstrates how OpenXML content controls can be defined to capture list data in a Word document and how LINQ to XML can be used to query the lists. The documents are generated from a SharePoint Web Part.

Issues accessing saved documents in SharePoint

Hello, I believe there is an issue with a current document link in SharePoint.  When we click on the main Document Folder (labelled - Project Descriptions) we are typically provided access to a large list of subfolders and documents.  For some reason now, when we click on the main Document folder, a dialogue box opens up prompting me with the following language:

Do you want to open or save this file?

  • Name: Allitems.zip
  • Type: Compressed (zipped) Folder, 6.13KB
  • From: sharepoint.ambit-consulting.com

If you click "open", you're redirected to a blank page in SharePoint.  Our documents are no where to be found.  Please help.

How to email documents from Sharepoint (WSS3.0)

Hi there,   I am very new to sharepoint so if this is a common / obvious question, please forgive me.   I have just set-up our company's internal website using sharepoint. Thankfully everyone loves it and we are getting great results from it.   I am however having the following problem:   I have created a document library that contains PDF versions of our company's catalogue. The idea was that staff members could access the catalogue, as well as send the PDF's to customers via email.   I was hoping that there was a way I could add the functionality to send these PDF's as opposed to sending a link (that the external customers cannot open). I realise that we could simply open the document and then email it from within the PDF reader, however I was hoping that there would be a more elegant solution.   Any help would be much appreciated.   Thanking you in anticipation.   Regards,   Warren

Office 2010 will not open Office 2003 Documents on SharePoint

Going directly to a document in the document view and selecting any of them will present the Read Only/Edit prompt and when clicking Read Only Word or Excel 2010 depending on the document type will open to a blank page and just sit there. If you do a search and then click on the documents that are returned in the search results, it opens as expected.

SQL Server Management Studio cannot save new files to SharePoint folders

If the file already exists I can save changes to the file. But I cannot save new scipt files to a SharePoint 2007 drive.

SQL Server Management Studio cannot save to SharePoint web folders (WebDAV)

SQL Server Management Studio (2005 and 2008) seems incapable of writing to files in a web folder (WebDAV, web share).  We have web folders served by our SharePoint 2007 SP1 server, \\servername\folder\folder\etc.  Management Studio can't write to them: When I open a file from SharePoint and edit it, the Save option under Fle is not available If I edit a file in SharePoint and save it as a new file, it lets me, but then when I close it and try to find it again, it's not there in the folder. If I open a new file and trying saving it to SharePoint, I get the error, "The specified URL could not be found, or you do not have appropriate permissions". Permissions are not the issue: all our other applications can read & write files in these SharePoint web folders.Any ideas?
