Any idea if Information Rights Management (IRM) will support additional file types in future version

Posted By:      Posted Date: May 22, 2011    Points: 0   Category :C#

In Sharepoint 2007, IRM supports Excell, Word and PowerPoint out of box...

Any idea if there will be additional out of box support for filetypes such as PDF, TIFF, Outlook Emails (.msg)...?

I am hoping to avoid creating custom protectors to protect the files and building an add-ons to software such as Adobe Reader to understand the RMS licences...

Looking forward to additional suggestion as well...

Resource File: Windows Media 9 Series Digital Rights Management

If you have an application that handles Windows Media content and you need an effective way to track content usage, Windows Media 9 Series now offers Digital Rights Management (DRM). It allows you to take advantage of the peer-to-peer distribution model and still redirect users back to your app once they have downloaded your content (prior to viewing).

Information Rights Management (IRM): Event 5047

Issues with IRM Information Rights Management

I am doing some testing with IRM.  It works fine outside Sharepoint.

I created two Libraries in Sharepoint - one with IRM enabled, the other without.

When I open a Word document from Sharepoint, that was IRM-enabled before putting it in the either Library, IRM works fine.

When I open a Word document from the non-IRM-enabled Library, that did not have IRM-enabled before putting it in either Library, there is no IRM, as expected.

When I try to open a Word document from the IRM-enabled Library, and that document did not have IRM on it before uploading to Sharepoint, it fails with the error:

"The internet address 'http:/sp.domain.com/IT/RIghts Management Test/testdoc.doc" is not valid."

I have full rights in the Library.  There are no errors in any of the server Event Logs.

What does this mean?  How do I fix it?

Show web applications build version information

I would like to make the build information for the running web application but I dont know where I set or configure this nor do I know how to retrieve this information.

In a project you may set the  build information in the file AssemblyInfo.cs under the projects Properties folder. Here is a snippet of the AssemblyInfo.cs file:

// Version information for an assembly consists of the following four values:
//      Major Version
//      Minor Version
//      Build Number
//      Revision
// You can specify all the values or you can default the Revision and Build Numbers
// by using the '*' as shown below:
[assembly: AssemblyVersion("6.3.0")]
[assembly: AssemblyFileVersion("6.3.0.*")]

But there is no such file for an web application project, so I have to get this information from one of the compiled DLLs that is in the same assembly as my web application then? Or how is this done?

The reason I want this information is because my customer would like to have a webpage within the web application where he could see the current version. This is also nice to have when testing and debugging etc.

Version history file properties

I move files into different folders programmatically. If a file was changed and it will be move again the new file is the actual file and the old file remained in the verison history.

How I save the new version:
SPFile destfile=website.getFile(destUrl);

Normally when you upload the new file with changed properties manually you see the changed properties in the version history.
When I do this programmatically I have the new file with the main version but the changed properties would not be displayed.
Can anybody help me?

Thanks and Regards

EnumAvailableSqlServers() not returning version information

I am unable to consistently get full information from the smo call EnumAvailableSqlServers. If SQL Browser is running, it returns version info only for the local machine, never a remote machine.
