WCF issues sending large data - "An existing connection was forcibly closed by the remote host"

Posted By:      Posted Date: August 28, 2010    Points: 0   Category :.NET Framework

Hi Guys I have posted the following on www.asp.net but thought it might be productive posting here too.I have been pulling my hair out trying to fix an issue with sending data over WCF, I have read pretty much every THREAD on this forum regarding or similar to this issue without any successful solution.  I have a simple data object which has a [DataMember] with a data type of byte[]. I use this to send binary data from my web app as follows: Asp.net MVC website --> WCF Client (Has my Service References) --> My Services (MyServices.svc) --> Business/Data Tier Everything is being executed from within VS 2008 Pro.   Now I have successfully sent data up to 2.2MB, however it fails if i try and send a file such as 2.3MB or larger i get the following exceptions: General Exception Exception rethrown at [0]:    at System.Runtime.Remoting.Proxies.RealProxy.HandleReturnMessage(IMessage reqMsg, IMessage retMsg)   at System.Runtime.Remoting.Proxies.RealProxy.PrivateInvoke(MessageData& msgData, Int32 type)   at SoftApp.WCFClient.MyServiceReference.IMyService.Document_Save(DtoDocument dtoDocument, Int32 usercode)   at SoftApp.WCFClient.MyServiceReference.MyServiceClient.Document_Save(DtoDocument dtoDocument, Int32 usercode) in c:\dev\softapp\softapp.wcfclient\service references\myservicereference\refe

Timeout while sending large amount of data with WCF client

Hi,

I've call to Java WebSeal Web "enveloped" by WCF Client. Sending large XML (about 60k) as a parameter cause an error and received one of these messages:

 System.ServiceModel.CommunicationException: The underlying connection was closed: A connection that was expected to be kept alive was closed by the server.

OR

System.TimeoutException: The request channel timed out while waiting for a reply after 00:01:00. Increase the timeout value passed to the call to Request or increase the SendTimeout value on the Binding. The time allotted to this operation may have been a portion of a longer timeout.

Interaction with same webseal service configured as asmx service doesn't cause any errors.

my client app.config looks like this:

<bindings>
      <basicHttpBinding>
        <binding name="WinflowSoap" closeTimeout="00:01:00" openTimeout="00:01:00"
         receiveTimeout="00:10:00" sendTimeout="00:01:00" allowCookies="false"
         bypassProxyOnLocal="false" hostNameComparisonMode="StrongWildcard"

Are there any issues in SharePoint 2010 BCS when working with large data?

Hi,

We are working on suggesting the best approach that would be suitable to support user data stored in SQL Server 2008. User data is huge (in Terabytes).

I need to understand if there are any issues using MOSS 2007 BDC or SharePoint 2010 BCS to interact with SQL Server 2008 database tables? I understand that BCS offers a no-code solution for interacting with SQL tables, however when handling such large data, can we have better performance if Stored Procedures and ADO.Net is used to fetch and update the data?

All in all I need to understand the pros and cons in both these approaches. Any pointers, specifically to related real world case studies shall highly be appreciated. Thanks much!

Data Points: Using XQuery, New Large DataTypes, and More

SQL Server 2005 introduces a lot of new features, but it also enhances the popular and oft-used Transact-SQL (T-SQL) language. Changes include the introduction of new datatypes to store large values using the MAX indicator, the integration of enhanced XML querying and data modification with XQuery, and the new XML datatype.

Multiprocessor Optimizations: Fine-Tuning Concurrent Access to Large Data Collections

Application performance involves more than just speed. In a Web server environment, top performance also means ensuring that the maximum numbers of users can be served concurrently. This can be accomplished through efficient use of multiprocessor machines and thread management. This article presents techniques that can solve a number of concurrency problems. One approach, using thread management, controls access to a database on a per-thread basis, which protects the integrity of the data. In the article, reusable thread classes are built and presented. The classes are then tested and their performance in a live environment is examined.

Facing MSDTC related issues while archiving data from one database server machine to another databas

I have a question with respect to distributed transactions when carried out between two database server machines on the same network.   Consider there are two database server machines \SOURCE_DATABASE_SERVER\ and \DESTINATION_DATABASE_SERVER\. Now we have to archive the data from one database server to other database server.   Let us suppose the database server \SOURCE_DATABASE_SERVER\ is the live production database server and \DESTINATION_DATABASE_SERVER\ is Long term storage database server. Now data from \SOURCE_DATABASE_SERVER\ needs to be archived into the database server \DESTINATION_DATABASE_SERVER\.   So I have written a dynamic stored procedure which includes distributed transaction (begin Tran, commit Tran, rollback            Tran) coding in it.   Now initially when I executed the procedure, it gave some of the following errors   1) OLE DB provider "SQLNCLI" for linked server "\DESTINATION_DATABASE_SERVER\" returned message "The partner transaction manager has disabled its support for remote/network transactions.". Msg 7391, Level 16, State 2, Line 1 The operation could not be performed because OLE DB provider "SQLNCLI" for linked server "\DESTINATION_DATABASE_SERVER\" was unable to begin a distributed transaction.

Data Import issues: Access 2003 .mdb to sqlce 3.5 on mobile device

I am trying to download wirelessly or cradled, data from 3 Access 2003 tables into my SQLCE 3.5 datatables. I already have a successful method + web method that uploads data from my sqlce datatables into the Access 2003 tables. I just need feedback to know if I'm headed in the right direction. Web method: Public Function UpdateSqlCeData(ByVal downloadSet As DataSet) As Boolean ' Connect to Access DB here, execute command and populate data set with returned data. Me.Server.ScriptTimeout = 600000 Dim strSql2 As SqlCeCommand Dim oleDbDataset As System.Data.DataSet = New DataSet Dim sqlParam As New SqlCeParameter Dim fhAccDt, fhCeDt As New DataTable strSql2 = Nothing sqlParam = Nothing 'Connection string to connect to access DB Dim FHLiveDB As New OleDb.OleDbConnection("Provider=Microsoft.Jet.OLEDB.4.0;Data Source=C:\testpre\testservertest.mdb") Dim Pbrd As New OleDb.OleDbDataAdapter("SELECT * FROM tblProductBrand", FHLiveDB) FHLiveDB.Open() Pbrd.Fill(oleDbDataset) With strSql2 .CommandTimeout = 600000 .CommandText = "INSERT INTO Product_Brand ([BrandID],[Brand_Name]) VALUES (@Brand_ID,@Brand_Name)" sqlParam = .Parameters.Add("@Brand_ID", SqlDbType.NVarChar, 50, "Brand_ID&

VS 2010 and data source issues

I've been banging my head against the wall for the past 4 hours on this one and think I'm going to need a little help here. I must be missing something. I'm in VS 2010 on Windows 7. I've got a web project which has been going fine, but no matter what I do I can't get a data source to show up in the Data Source window. I've added a data source using Data > Add New Data Source, and the "wizard" appeared to complete successfully. I have a data source showing in my solution explorer, and if I open the .xsd file I see all my tables from a remote SQL 2005 database. I have a good data connection to the database server showing up in the Server Explorer window. But no matter what I do I cannot get anything to appear in the Data Sources window, which is greyed out (the commands at the top are grayed out and there's gray text in the middle of the window reading "There are no data sources to show for the selected project"). Under the main Data menu at the top of VS, the "Show Data Sources" and "Add New Data Source" commands are missing. I can sometimes get them to reappear if I restart Visual Studio or reboot the OS, but not consistently. I've been all over Google on this and have tried every suggested solution I can find, to no avail. Anybody have any ideas? Thanks.

Excel sheet is not saving data while sending email

Hey Guys,  I am creating a SSIS package, where I am getting all the data into the excelsheet1, which is not formatted. So i created a formated excelsheet2, where i am giving reference to excelsheet1 cells reference. And I am sending email by attaching excelsheet2.              I am having issue when the data is updated, but my email attachment excel is showing old data. When i open the excelsheet1 it is being updated. I don't know why excelsheet2 is not updated automatically. I am using BIDS 2005 . Can anyone please suggest what will solve my problem. SSRS 2008 Export to PDF fails for large data with System.Exception: Parameter is not valid

Hi, We are working on Range Bar Chart using SSRS 2008. The report has huge data. It is properly displaying the data, but when we tried to export to pdf it is failing with the following exception. Exporting to excel works fine. Also if the report has small/medium data it is property exporting to PDF. It is failing only in case of huge data (we have custom page size of 28" X 14"). Of course the report has lot of expressions we used to customize the colors/text as per our requirements.   Server Error in '/Reports_SQLDEV2008' Application. Parameter is not valid. data contract code generation for large/complex schema (HR-XML/OAGIS) - is there an alternative?

Hello, and thank you for reading.I am implementing a Service based on a predefined specification (HR-XML 3.0). As such, I am starting with the schema, and working my way back to code. There are a number of large Schema documents (which import yet more Schema documents) related to my implementation, provided by this specification.I am able to generate code using xsd.exe, by supplying the "main" and "supporting" xsd files as arguments. But there are several issues, and I am wondering if this is the right approach.- there are litterally hundreds of classes - the code file is half a meg in size- duplicate classes (ex. Type, Type1 - which both represent the same type)- there are classes declared as inheriting from a base class, but that base class is not generated/definedI understand that there are limitations to the types of Schema supported by svcutil.exe/xsd.exe when targeting the DataContractSerializer and even XmlSerializer. My question is two-fold:1. Are code generation "issues" fairly common when dealing with larger, modular xsd files? Has anyone had success with generating data contracts from OAGIS or HR-XML schema?2. Given the above issues, are there better approaches to this task, avoiding generating code and working with concrete objects? Does it make better sence to read and compose a SOAP message directly, while sti

ASP.NET Events and Pageload not firing when Datagrid containing large number of rows of data

SSIS Excel Connection Manager Data Type Conversion Issues with SS Agent Job

Hi All! I have an issue I've been trying to fix but can't seem to figure it out. I was hoping a kind person would point me in the right direction. :o) I have an SSIS package that uses an excel connection manager source, and I want to run this package through a job scheduled in the SQL server agent. The data types for the excel file fields are 2 (DT_WSTR) and 5 (DT_R8). When I run the package directly through the SSIS package (VS solution) all of the data fields are properly imported into the database table. But...when I run this package through the SQL server agent job, ONLY the string (DT_WSTR) fields in each row are being imported, all of the float fields are imported as NULL. I set the data types for these float fields as "float" in the SQL server import table (data type). Even though the excel source float fields are indicating a type of DT_R8 in the excel connection manager and I set the data types in the SQL server table to "float", I also used the data conversion component and set the type to "float" as a fail-safe. I guess I should add to that the data access mode in the excel connection manager is using a custom code to select only those columns that I needed and to trim rows that I didn't need. Here's my code that I have in the excel source editor: select f1, f2, f3, f5, f6, f7, f8 from [mdo$] where f2 <> 'Rep Name'

WCF webservice: HTTP/1.1 400 Bad Request while sending large input

I am connecting to a WCF based webservice. For certain methods, the input contains a list of objects/structures. When the number of items in this list increases beyond a certain number, the service fails with HTTP/1.1 400 Bad Request when I try to test the same using SOAPUI. I tried changing the web.config file with the following changes: <httpRuntime maxRequestLength="2097151" /> <binding name="basicHTTP" closeTimeout="00:01:00" openTimeout="00:01:00" receiveTimeout="00:01:00" sendTimeout="00:01:00" maxReceivedMessageSize="4194304" maxBufferSize="98547" maxBufferPoolSize="258547"> <readerQuotas maxDepth="2147483647" maxStringContentLength="2147483647" maxArrayLength="2147483647" maxBytesPerRead="2147483647" maxNameTableCharCount="2147483647" /> </binding>   Kangkan

format-number issues with the Data View Web Part in SharePoint 2010

I have a number column named @Year_x0020_1_x0020_Revenue in the data view web part in SharePoint Designer 2010. In the Xpath expression builder - @Year_x0020_1_x0020_Revenue previews "500,000" If I use the format-number in the Xpath expression builder ==> format-number(@Year_x0020_1_x0020_Revenue, '$#,##0.00;-$#,##0.00'), it returns NaN. Is there any reason?
