What is the most uptodate .NET Framework I can use on Windows XP with latest service pack?

Hi, I am doing consultancy work for a small company that still uses Windows XP. I want to develop a .NET Windows Application for them in C#. Can anyone tell me what is the latest version of .NET Framework I can use on an XP machine (with latest SP). I will be developing code on a Vista Home Machine and will port it to this XP machine. If you know where Microsoft keeps info on this then that would be useful. Thanks. John.

Microsoft .NET Framework 1.1 Service Pack 1 Security Update for Win XP failed

Hii all, I just tried to patch my system with latest updates, which were huge this time (14 updates of 42 Mb in total). Out of 14 updates 13 were installed successfully and one failed with error code of 0x643:
Microsoft .NET Framework 1.1 Service Pack 1 Security Update for Windows 2000, Windows XP, Windows Vista, Windows Server 2008, Windows 7, and Windows Server 2008 R2 (KB953297)

After restarting my system I authorised the dispatch of the failure report to Microsoft. Now I wonder if anybody else has encountered such problem with this particular update?

Product: Microsoft .NET Framework 2.0 Service Pack 2 -- Error 1705.

I can't seem to load an available update for .NET framework. The event log reads"

Product: Microsoft .NET Framework 2.0 Service Pack 2 -- Error 1705.A previous installation for this product is in progress. You must undo the changes made by that installation to continue. Do you want to undo those changes?"

My PC appears to be hung up on a previous attempt. Any suggestions?

The event that preceeds this message also failed. It reads:

.NET Runtime Optimization Service (clr_optimization_v2.0.50727_32) - Tried to start a service that wasn't the latest version of CLR Optimization service. Will shutdown

I attempted to both automatically & manually uninstall Microsoft.NET Framework 2.0 Service Pack 2 from both the Control Panel (Add or Remove Programs) & by going to "Run" & typing in Installer which brought me to the Installer.  On both occassions the same message flashed "Cannot Uninstall Service Pack 2 because it may affect other applications".  I have the Framework 3.0 Service Pack 2 but I want to retain this one.  I have already burned two bridges here already.  What is the correct solution, if there is any?

Any framework for creating a job scheduler service?

Just curious to know if there was any official Microsoft code blocks, classes, or such for writing a service that runs other assemblies or WCF services?  That can be configured easily from a web page, pre-coded, for running tasks at certain times on certain recurring intervals?  I've already built one but am open to anything done better- which I'm sure there is.  Thanks!!!

.NET Framework-Part 2: Microsoft .NET Framework Delivers the Platform for an Integrated, Service-Ori

This article completes the .NET Framework overview begun in the September issue. The common language specification and ILDasm, the MSIL disassembler, are discussed-as well as how metadata, manifests, and assemblies simplify deployment and versioning. Security, which is integral to the design of .NET, is examined extensively, followed by a walk through the development of a single assembly containing multiple files. Finally, the way managed and unmanaged code work together, and the benefits of using each, including interoperablity with unmanaged code, are described.

Microsoft .NET Framework: Delivers the Platform for an Integrated, Service-Oriented Web

The Microsoft .NET Framework is a new platform for building integrated, service-oriented applications to meet the needs of today's Internet businesses; apps that gather information from, and interact with, a wide variety of sources, regardless of the platforms or languages in use. This article, the first of a two part series, illustrates how the .NET Framework enables you to quickly build and deploy Web services and applications in any programming language. Microsoft Intermediate Language and JIT compiler, which make this reuse possible, are described as well as managed components, assemblies, and the Common Type System (CTS).

SQL Server 2005 Express Edition Service Pack 3 (KB955706) update is successful but repeats installin

Microsoft SQL Server 2005 Express Edition Service Pack 3 (KB955706) (update 1 of 1) This update seems to be stuck in a loop of installing, each time it successfull installs acccording to automatic updates. Then says it requires installing again straight away. This has been happening for 10 days now. I have tried a manual update from the website rather than automatic updates, no change. Any ideas why? Have posted in Windows update which is where I think the problem lies but they have suggested I post here also.

Microsoft SQL Server 2005 Express Edition Service Pack 3 (KB955706) - will not download.install on W

I have tried and tried unsuccessfully to get this download to install properly. I get no error message at all but it quite clearly is not working properly. This has all ready taken me hours and hours of my time with no success (after following the fixes mentioned on this site). I look forward to suggestions at to how to proceed that may actually work. Many thanks cdbc81

Which SQL Server 2005 Express Edition Service Pack to Install?

I have Windows 2008 Small Business Server Standard Edition.  When I scan for updates I get two different SQL service packs showing up, with the same KB955706 number.  I'm wondering which I should install, or if both, what order to install them in?  The first one is labeled: Microsoft SQL Server 2005 Express Edition Service Pack 3 The second one is labeled: Microsoft SQL Server 2005 Express Edition with Advanced Services Service Pack 3 For applications, I have Blackbaud The Financial Edge v7.78 (accounting package for clubs) installed that uses SQL Server 2005 Express Edition for its database engine.  The new upgrade for this software requires SP3 which is why I need to know which service pack to install.  Also, please let me know if there are any tricks to getting the service packs installed on 2008 SBS Standard Edition.  I know sometimes registry settings need to be changed for SQL service packs to be installed properly. Thank you for your help.
