vs2010 web deployment project restarts w3svc even when restartwwwservice = false

We've updated some of our projects from VS2008 to VS2010.  When these projects are deployed the w3svc is restarted on the target machine, even when restartwwwservice = false in the vdproj file.

This was a problem in 2008 until SP1 (http://forums.asp.net/p/1300097/2534736.aspx).  Does this same problem exist in VS2010?

This is a major problem for us -  we need to be able to deploy projects without restarting IIS.

I've tried creating a new web deployment package and setting the restartWWWService field to false, but this still does a restart when it's installed.

Has anyone come across this problem in VS2010?

VS2010: Upgrading projects from VS2008

I just upgraded my VS2008 solution to VS2010 and have run into a problem. I have a .NET C# application that references a managed C++ DLL, which in turn links to a native static library. All this works just fine. However, whenever I attempt to run the C# application, Visual Studio claims that the native static library is out of date and must be recompiled. It does that even after I've just compiled the native library. When allowing VS2010 to build the native project, the only thing it does is this: 1>  LibraryName.vcxproj -> C:\Bleh\Blah\LibraryName.lib Is there a way I can figure out what's causing VS2010 to think the project is out of date?

VS2010 RTM bug?? Error Occurred in deployment step 'Add Solution': Value cannot be null. Parameter

I'm getting this error with Visual Studio 2010 (RTM) deploying to SharePoint 2010 (also RTM).

An "Empty SharePoint Solution" project with an OOB "Module" item added. Try to deploy and I get:

Error Occurred in deployment step 'Add Solution': Value cannot be null. Parameter name: s

The account I'm developing with has:

  • Domain Admin
  • Local Admin
  • SharePoint Farm Admin
  • Site Collection Admin
  • SQL "sysadmin"
  • SQL "DBOwner" on all config / content databases
  • UAC is disabled

The WSP package is created successfully, and if I roll it out using STSADM then it works perfectly. For some reason though Visual Studio 2010 thinks that it cannot be deployed!

Any ideas??

Database deployment with Backup and Restore vs. Generate and Publish Scripts Wiz.

Could you please explain when is it better to deploy (publish) a database with Backup and Restore and when with the Generate and Publish Scripts Wizard?

As far as I understand Data-tier Applications in SQL Server 2008 R2 is a third option, isn't it? Are there more?

Thank you!

Is a Dynamic Config Possible for SSAS BIDS Projects? (Data Source / Connection, and Deployment Targe

How do we automate SSAS Project configs such that (a) RDBMS data source server (connection) and (b) SSAS deployment target server are dynamic?

As it stands, just before I script the ASDB (for deployment/promotion from Dev to QA, or QA to Prod, for example), I use BIDS designer interfaces to change the source connection and deployment targets, then script the ASDB.

Is there a more dyamic alternative?  Perhaps something analogous to SSIS package configurations?  I can't believe that everybody is doing this as manually as I've done.

How to tell VS10 One-click deployment to copy certain files and folders?

Hi there,

I'm trying to use the Web One Click Publish feature in VS10 to push my asp.net app to IIS. I have some .resx files and another folder for uploaded images, none of these got copied to IIS. How do I tell it to copy the specified files and folders

Thank you so much,

About the VS2010 FTP publish status/progress ?

Hey, I'm the first time using VS2010 deployment tool.

I selected FTP publish, and all the configurations are correct.

I'm just confused that after I clicked publish, there is no window or text shows the status of the uploading progress. When would it be finished? It's taking so long, and in the meantime I can't do anything.

Web Deployment Projects for Shared User Controls

I have successfully managed to create a web deployment project that compiles a bunch of user controls in a web application project. This works nicely for sharing user controls in other web application projects. I use Page.LoadControl to load the user controls dynamically. The web deployment project put the user controls in an assembly with each user control having a name like ASP.MyUserControl_ascx, where ASP. is the default namespace created either by aspnet_compiler or aspnet_merge. I was wondering if there was some way to get it use a different namespace, like MyUserControls.Library, for example.

VS2010 workflow deployment problem

Hi, I have created a custom workflow by vs2010 and then I want to deploy it, I copied .wsp file out of my release folder.
I've checked there are following files inside

<Elements xmlns="http://schemas.microsoft.com/sharepoint/">

Issue with BCS Model deployment in VS2010

I'm seeing an issue with deploying a BCS model project created using VS2010

I updated the model and added additional properties to LOB System Instance and redeployed and the new properties added are not showing in application definition file deployed to BCS, I exported the model file from BCS directly and confirmed this, none of the new properties I added in VS2010 were there. Anyone else seen this? I also looked at the model file that was packaged into wsp and I was able to see the new properties that I added, definitely looks like some bug during deployment

I had to go into manage service applications->Business Connectivity Service and cleanup all references and redeploy bdcmodel from VS2010

VS 2005 web deployment projects in TF build 2010

We have a VS 2005 web deployment project that builds fine in TF 2005 producing a fully precompiled web site.

We have migrated the project to VS 2010 and created a TF 2010 build based on the upgrade template to carry out our existing 2005 build script.

We have downloaded and installed the 2010 Web Deployment Projects RTW (http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/en/details.aspx?FamilyID=89f2c4f5-5d3a-49b6-bcad-f776c6edfa63&displaylang=en) on the build server.

However, the web deploy project does not build in the team build.

Any help would be much appreciated.

GridView Javascript Click Row and Ajax

This article shows 2 common tasks with the ASP.NET GridView: Binding a List (generic) of objects as DataSource and on clicking a row, getting the values of the selected row by a javascript function. In the example a List with User-objects is displayed. On clicking a row containing the data of a User-object, the Id of the object is used to get the address of the user by an Ajax-call and display it in a details-field.
