Educational question: How server objects are accessed from multiple client threads?

I will appreciate it if someone can help me to undestand how the following scenario works:   There is remoting server that is registered as WellKnownObjectMode.Singleton. Server implementation: It instantiates a class TestServer that implements interface IFoo interface IFoo { IHelper GetHelper() }   interface IHelper { void StoreString(); }   Implementation of TestServer: internal sealed class TestServer: System.MarshalByRefObject, IFoo { private IHelper> helper = new Helper(); public IHelper GetHelper(string helper){return helper;} }   Implementation of Helper: internal sealed class Helper : System.MarshalByRefObject, IHelper { public void StoreString (string val) {}; }   Implementation of a client (simplified; shown to illustrate the question only): static class Program { public static IFoo TestService; public static IHelper Helper; public TestThreads testmultiplecalls; [STAThread] static void Main() { TestService = (IFoo)Activator.GetObject(typeof(IFoo),"ipc://Channel"); Helper = TestService.GetHelper(); testmultiplecalls.Start(); } }   internal class TestThreads { public Start() { for (int i = 0; i < 20; i++) ThreadPool.QueueUserWorkItem((new TestCall(i.ToString())).DoWork); } }     internal class TestCall { private string m_str; public TestCall (string str) {m_str = str;} public void DoWork() { Program.Helper.StoreString(m_str); } }     Que

server to communicate with multiple clients

Hi, The server sends event to multiple clients; It goes through a list of callback destination clients and sends one by one. My question is, if one client down or in dead loop processing the event, does it affect all the other clients to receive event? Is it the same if I use HTTP or name pipe? The code is like that: for each (callback^ cb in registeredCallbacks) { cbClient = getClient(cb); if (cbClient) { try { cbClient->sendEvent(data); } catch (Exception^ ex) { deregisterCallback(cb, ex) } }   I wonder if one client fails, would it affect all the others. Thanks in advance Simon

Multiple XML files into SQL SERVER Express 2005

Hello. I am familiar with classic ASP and use this with MS SQL SERVER EXPRESS. I have an SQL table and want to import multiple XML files into this on a daily basis. I currently have 3 files, transferdata.vbs which loops through the XML files. FAQschema.xml which maps XML to the SQL database and test.xml shows the xml in the test file. If I run transferdata.vbs I get the following error "Error opening the data file" line 33 char 3. Microsoft Bulkload for SQL Server". My SQL table is called EnqOrd id (int), Debitor (varchar), PurchaseDate (varchar)     transferdata.vbs set objBL = CreateObject("SQLXMLBulkLoad.SQLXMLBulkLoad") objBL.ConnectionString = "Provider=SQLOLEDB; Data Source=XXXXXX\XXXXX; Initial Catalog=XXXX; User ID=XXXXX; Password=XXXXXX" objBL.ErrorLogFile = "E:\fuelsql\Teccom\error.log" ' Here is the path to your XML files Const path = "E:\fuelsql\Teccom\XML\" Dim Text, Title, oFile Dim fso, oFolder, oFiles, wsh ' Object variables Text = "Folder " Title = "XML Files" Set wsh = WScript.CreateObject("WScript.Shell") ' Create FileSystemObject object to access the file system. Set fso = CreateObject("Scripting.FileSystemObject") ' Get Folder object. Set oFolder = fso.GetFolder(wsh.ExpandEnvironmentStrings(path)) ' Get All Files Set oFiles = oFolder.

WCF - First call to Callback instance from Server takes considerable time to make it to the client.

Hello. There's a performance problem we are facing that we are unable to fix using DuplexChannels. The first call made by the client to the server reaches the server instantly. The first call made by the server to the first client using a Callback proxy will take several seconds to reach the client. All subsequent calls to the client (as well as other clients) will reach and execute instantly. The client connects to the Server using a proxy to IServiceProvision, supplies an instance to an implementation of IClientCallback and calls IServiceProvision.Start(). The server instantly processes the call and makes an asynchronous call to IClientCallback.DoWork(), which takes several seconds to enter the client's DoWork() implementation. The remainder of the execution then runs smoothly. Also, the server will experience such a slowdown only for the very first call of the first client that connects to it. Is it normal for the Callback interface to take so much time to warmup, only on the first call to the first client? Below is the full source code. Thanks for any information you may provide. Cheers Mike Shared Class Library using System.ServiceModel; namespace Test { [ServiceContract(Namespace = "http://test/IService", CallbackContract = typeof(IClientCallback))] public interface IServiceProvision { [OperationContract] void Start(); [OperationContract] void

SQL Server database restore with multiple logicalfiles by using t-sql

Hi,   I have set of database backups created in the production sql server 2005. I need restore these backups into another sql server 2005 by using t-sql script(stored procedure). Each database will have different number of logical files in it. The physical location of the target server may be different for these logical files. I know that i should use WITH MOVE 'YourMDFLogicalName' TO 'D:DataYourMDFFile.mdf' clause. Now i want to know how would i put it in a t-script stored procedure such a way that it automatically identifies all the logical files and create a physical file on the target server. User will supply source of bakup file and target folder for mdf,ldf, etc files. Do i need to populate the sql query as string by looping through all the logical files? If so how would i execute the populated sql query as string ?  Mr Genius

Rebooting one Instance on a SQL 2008 Server with multiple instances installed

Hello, Hoping someone can answer the following questions ... If I have SQL Server 2008 with multiple Named Instances configured on it, can I reboot one Named Instance without rebooting any of the other Named Instances, or without having to reboot the entire server ? For example, if I have an application that needs to be re-booted and it requires the Database to be re-booted. Regards, JD

Installing multiple instances of SQL Server R2 creates permissions issues - first instance won't st

After installing two named instances of SQL Server 2008 R2 DataCenter edition (R2D2 and C3P0) I found the first instance would no longer start.  The errorlog showed the reason to be an invalid path. 2010-09-14 18:15:39.12 Server      Error: 17113, Severity: 16, State: 1. 2010-09-14 18:15:39.12 Server      Error 3(The system cannot find the path specified.) occurred while opening file 'C:\MSSQL\SQLDAT\MSSQL10_50.R2D2\MSSQL\DATA\master.mdf' to obtain configuration information at startup. An invalid startup option might have caused the error. Verify your startup options, and correct or remove them if necessary. Finding the files in the proper location I check the ACLs and found the Local Group created for the second instance on the ACL for the first instance.  That is to say for instance R2D2 I found MSP-JANHONJ7\SQLServerMSSQLUser$MSP-janhonj7$C3P0 instead of the MSP-JANHONJ7\SQLServerMSSQLUser$MSP-janhonj7$R2D2 that was originally there. C:\MSSQL\SQLDAT\MSSQL10_50.R2D2\MSSQL\DATA>icacls master.mdf master.mdf NT AUTHORITY\SYSTEM:(F)            BUILTIN\Administrators:(F)            MSP-JANHONJ7\SQLServerMSSQLUser$MSP-janhonj7$C3P0:(F) It seems that creating the second instance causes this problem.  I have been u

SQL Server 2008 multiple lines in a varchar(MAX) column?

I'm using varchar(Max) to store a text file content. It's not taking the newline character. I tried \n and char(13) etc.. whatever solution posted in the net.

ex : update test set f='This is line 1.' + CHAR(13) + CHAR(10) + 'This is line 2.'

after updating it doesn't have any newline or linebreak. Can anyone help me in this how to have linebreaks in the varchar(max) field.

Thanks a lot.

Problems with multiple calls from the same client

Hi all!

I have a service with the following binding configuration (identical on server and client), running under IIS (Win 7 x64):

 <binding name="Printec.TMS.DCS.WindowsTcpBinding" maxReceivedMessageSize="6553600"
  maxConnections="2000" listenBacklog="2000" closeTimeout="00:10:00"
  sendTimeout="00:10:00" receiveTimeout="00:10:00" openTimeout="00:10:00">
 <readerQuotas maxDepth="200" maxStringContentLength="6553600" maxArrayLength="6553600" />
 <reliableSession enabled="false" />
 <security mode="None" />

Here is the service behaviour:

Best practice for WCF service exposing multiple client-specific endpoints?

Moving forward with re-designing a web service architecture using WCF, our team has been discussing how we want to expose the endpoints. Example: I have a standard endpoint that all users could use with the proper token, but I also have some number of endpoints that will instead use certificate security. All endpoints will ultimately use the same implementation, so this is really just different ways of getting in to the system.

The certificate endpoints will have to point to a specific certificate in the store so will only work for one specific client. The thought is that our standard service could live at http://mysite.com/MyService.svc and the certificate endpoints would be something like http://mysite.com/MyService.svc/Acme. The concern here is that I'm effectively putting our client list into our WSDL, which is not desirable.

What's the best practice here? Is there a way to direct multiple clients through a single certificate endpoint and get the cert on the code side (how would we know which client we're dealing with without a sp

Multiple instances - max server memory setting?

Please let me know any practical guidelines of max server memory setting if you have multiple instances on the same box. Brand new server and not much of historical data available. What are some safe guidelines and tweaking instructions?

Server Control Property With Multiple Options

I have a custom server control built. It works great. I want to expose a property so that in designer the developer can put a check which options they want enabled for that property. For example, it is a grid that has Edit, Update, Delete, Undelete displayed on each row.

I want to have a property called AvailableRowCommands (or something like that) so the developer clicks down, puts a check next to each one they want and they're done. So they coudl check just edit and update and not delete.

Would I use sub properties for this?

Thanks for your help!

WCF Service to be hosted on the server with multiple IP Address

Hello all,

I am new to WCF Service. Following is my scenario

I have got a Windows Server 2008 with two NIC ie. two IP Addresses

I have got Apache server running on 1 and IIS on 2.

Now when I publish the WCF service on my service and have explicitly set the iplisten for IIS to 2. Still I am not able to access the service.

One more observation the link which I get after publishing is "svcutil.exe http://servername/Webservice/Service.svc?wsdl "

I need to have IP Address instead of servername in above URL.

Because I think the servername is causing the confusion as both IP Address 1 and 2 point to it.

Please suggest what needs to be done

Thanks in Advance.
