Custom Server Properties

Posted By:      Posted Date: May 22, 2011    Points: 0   Category :ASP.Net

I have developed a custom server control with a number of properties.  When I drag the control onto an aspx page a number of the properties are autopopulated within the server tag, which are not wanted.  I have managed to prevent them appearing within the Properties panel using the metadata attribute Browsable(False), but can't find out how to prevent them appearing within the tag itself.

Any help would be much appreciated

Edit: The properties are populated to the tag when the control (derived from GridView) is attached to a DataSource

Custom Server Control Property not maintaining state

I have created a server control consisting of a TextArea and a div under it.  My goal is to create my own asp:TextArea type control.  the div is for a Character count of the text area and seems to work ok but i added a CharacterCountVisible property to the control that is always returning true.  See Proptery definition below

<Bindable(False), Category("Appearance"), DefaultValue("True"), Localizable(True)> Property CharacterCountVisible() As Boolean
        Return _CountBoxVisible
    End Get
    Set(ByVal value As Boolean)
        _CountBoxVisible = value
    End Set
End Property

Note the _CountBoxVisible variable is define inside the class as :

Dim _CountBoxVisible as Boolean = True

What I am trying to do is give the user/coder the option to show/utilize the char count feature.  Can make it disappear with textarea1.CharacterCountVisible = False but setting it to true will not make it display.

What am i missing

SQL Server: Display Your Data Your Way with Custom Renderers for Reporting Services

SQL Server 2005 Reporting Servicesis a great tool that offers a centralized approach to storing and rendering reports. It also lets users view and download reports without installing additional software. Plus, reports can be saved in any number of different formats using custom report renderers. In this article, the author will develop one such report renderer that outputs HTML reports, but the skills you'll learn can easily be used to create a renderer for Microsoft Word documents or any other format of your choosing.

Error Handling: Throwing Custom Exception Types from a Managed COM+ Server Application

Exception handling semantics in .NET are based on type, so you can create custom exceptions that have their own properties and methods. In .NET, exceptions are first-class citizens, and since they're the built-in error handling mechanism, all .NET-compliant languages must support exceptions. In addition, COM+ services are available to .NET code as Enterprise Services, so you can leverage exceptions in your Enterprise Services design. In this article the author describes custom exceptions, throwing exceptions across COM interop boundaries, and working with Enterprise Services.

Search Server Gatherer - Custom hierarchical protocol handler ISearchProtocol for MOSS 2010

Search server gatherer calls CloseAccessor() and shutdown() on ISearchProtocol after GetChunk() even if the FILTER_E_END_OF_CHUNKS is not returned. After calling shutdown() it stops calling the createaccessor() with new URL. I want to create a hierarchical indexing but I am not gatherer is not suporting this. The same piece of code is working fine in MOSS 2007, I am facing this issue in MOSS 2010 only. Is there anything changed in MOSS 2010 which is creating this issue?

Deploying custom Web Parts on SharePoint 2007 production server

I would like to develop a custom SharePoint 2007 Web Part for a client. Currently I'm using Visual Studio to deploy my solution to a test environment (since it's a SharePoint Project I choose just Build -> Deploy from the menu). What are the appropriate steps to deploy it to the production server?

I'd like keep it simple and safe (i.e. use the principle of least privilege). Therefore (if possible) avoid using stsadm, achieve this through web interface, or avoid using administrative rights.

Also, can I specify the scope of my Web Part, i.e. choose on which Web Application or Site Collection will it be installed?

How to Add Custom SOAP Headers Into The Server Response Message in WSE3.0?

Hi Dear All, Assuming I am the service provider, may i know how many ways are there to insert a custom header into the server response message? So far I tried several ways, and it can be done in custom SoapFilters (by playing with SOAPEnvelope object), and SoapExtension (SOAPMessage object). Just wondering if this could be done at web service class by specifying a SOAPHeader attribute, just like adding a SOAPHeader into the SOAP request message at consumer side? If can, it might be much smarter than SoapFilter and SoapExtension.   Thanks in advance!   Best Regards, Charles

Instance and Default connection properties on SQL Server 2005

We had a sql server fail and I have been having troubles.  I compared the connection properties on the server properties and noticed that multiple default settings are no longer set.  So I'm wondering if during the failure these could have some gotten flipped.  DB's that worked all of a sudden don't work and we had to migrate to a different instance.  I have never changed any of the setings below and wonder what impact they would have if I changed them back to the default of an installed instance? ansi warning is checked ansi padding is checked ANSI NULLS is checked arithmetic abort is checked quoted identified is checked No Count is checked concat null yields null is checked Could anyone tell me how clearing these checked options will impact my db?   -- Paul Bergson MVP - Directory Services MCITP: Enterprise Administrator MCTS, MCT, MCSE, MCSA, Security+, BS CSci 2008, Vista, 2003, 2000 (Early Achiever), NT4 http://www.pbbergs.com    Twitter @pbbergs Please no e-mails, any questions should be posted in the NewsGroup This posting is provided "AS IS" with no warranties, and confers no rights.

Serializaing/deserializing XOMLs with custom activities that have properties of ISerializable types

I have custom activities that have dependency properties of types that implement ISerializable. When they are serialized/deserialized to XOML, the ISerializable-implied functionality is ignored and the standard reflection-based SerializableAttribute behavior is invoked. This poses a serious problem since the types require precise control over their serialization to ensure that proper internal state is maintained across serialization boundaries. I am aware of the WF custom serialization methods as mentioned in Tom Lakes' blog post, but they seem to require the DesignerSerializerAttribute attribute on all custom types. This is a problem because the types are business objects shared across many (non-WF) applications and they are part of a seperate code base to which I have no access. Is there a different method for getting custom serialization? And what is the reasoning behind the WF team choosing to ignore the very basic ISerializable attribute which is supported by every other .NET API across the framework? Thanks in advance.

Search - How to remove a meta tag ... / custom column is not showing up in Crawled Properties after

Hi I got the following warning after I crawled a site. Info out of Crawl Log: "The content for this address was excluded by the crawler because this item was marked with a no-index meta-tag. To index this item, remove the meta-tag and recrawl." Sound easy but I don't no where I could do it. The other problem is that I try to get a custom column from a custom list showing up in the crawle properties. I am using also a custom scope with the behavior "INCLUDE" ... In MOSS 2007 it was a lot simpler ;-) Thanks Regards MIA

custom server control with custom child collection, get the collection?

Hi!I want to create a custom server control, that then will have a custom child collection. The thing is that I also want to be able to modify the custom childs from the custom server control classFor example I have a row of cards, and the class is called CardRow, a CardRow is simply a class full of the class card in this case, se the class "Card" down below:using System; using System.Collections.Generic; using System.ComponentModel; using System.Linq; using System.Text; using System.Web; using System.Web.UI; using System.Web.UI.WebControls; using System.Collections.Generic; namespace MemoryLib { [ToolboxData("<{0}:CardRow runat=server></{0}:CardRow>")] public class CardRow : WebControl { public List<Card> _Card; [PersistenceMode(PersistenceMode.InnerProperty)] public List<Card> Card { get { return _Card; } set { _Card = value; } } public CardRow() { } protected override void CreateChildControls() { } protected override void Render(HtmlTextWriter writer) { } } } using System; using System.Collections.Generic; using System.ComponentModel; using System.Linq; using System.Text; using System.Web; using System.Web.UI; using System.Web.UI.WebControls; namespace MemoryLib

Searching for custom properties in a default search

Hi all, I have added some custom properties in to Manage User Properties in my User Profile Service Application. The issue I'm having is that I'm unable to obtain search results from these properties. For example, if in the Enterprise Search / People tab I enter "Dave" and click search, then I'll be presented with results of people who's name matches "Dave". If I enter "Information Technology" then I'll get a list of all users who's department is "Information Technology". So far we're okay! But let's go back to the custom property. Let's say it's called "Clients" and it is for storing client names against the staff profiles. If I search for "Microsoft" and a user has Microsoft in their client property then no results are found. I've created the managed properties in the Metadata Property Mappings of my search service application, done full crawls but nothing. If I search for "clients:microsoft" then I get results. So the question is how do I or is it even possible to get custom metadata properties to show up in a default search? Thanks!
