Confirm Navigation JS warning on edit / insert

Posted By:      Posted Date: May 22, 2011    Points: 0   Category :ASP.Net

Hi guys - I'm stumped. My DD site is working great except, for ONE table, I get a JS "Confirm Navigation" warning when performing either an insert or update (either clicking the "insert" link or the "Cancel" link). In fact, the warning usually fires twice.

If I confirm, the submission is made.

I'm using the tinyMCE editor for textareas, and a custom image upload control. No other customisations. These controls work as expected on all of my other pages.

I cannot determine where this JS is being called from, and I can't see any difference that would craete this behaviour between the column in question and any others (again, all of which work as expected with no JS popup).

There is one FK field and 2 navigation properties in this table.

Thanks for any help ...

UPDATE - solved! It was the tinyMCE editor .. I removed superflous plugins and controls from the Init() function and the problem disappeared.

Detecting Edit or Insert Page

I am coding a .cs file that handles the metadata for a particular table. I am putting a custom validation that allows me to update or insert only if the PubMedID is not already in the database. This would be easy except that the PMID should also be allowed to be null as some of the references in the database were not from PubMed. So i perform a query on the database to see if there is already an identical PMID in the database. This works great when using Insert. However, when using Edit, it does not. The PMID is already in the database because the one currently being edited has the same PMID!!! So I know exactly how to change my query etc. However, I do not know how to tell from inside this Edit/Insert agnostic page, which one it is being called from. Thanks for your help!

review, edit and insert data using 2 diffrent database

is it possible to create a custom list in sharepoint designer to enter a vacation request and using a work flow that goes to the HR department. but when the HR department approve the request the HR can store these requested data into another database?

what i mean is, the employee fill a form in to request some vacation days using a custom list in my wss3 site. i assume that these data will be stored in the WSS_content database. now when the HR department get this filled form they have to store the data of the form in to a database but not in the WSS_Content database.

is this possible?

Customizing the Insert/Edit Forms

Hi, I need to have 2 tables show in one webform(one-to-one relationship). I have tried customizing the Insert webform from the PageTemplates(creating the entity folder under CustomPages and copying the Insert page from PageTemplates), but it shows a lot of duplicate errors, e.g. The type GRIPS.Insert already contains a definition for DynamicDatamanager1, ScriptManagerProxy, etc... Can anyone tell me what I'm doing wrong? Thanks, CC

Insert and Edit Pages with Web User Control Template for another table

Hi, I have an Address template(web user control) which holds the fields of the Address table.  The Address template is embedded in the School Insert Page.  I want to insert a new school together with its address(which means I have to insert a record into the address table).  Can you let me know how I can pass the newly generated addressId to update school table?  Also, how can I associate the Address.cs in the App_Code with the Address template?  I want it to be able to scaffold columns which needs to be hidden from user in the address table.  When I click on Insert School, the Address template shows in "insert" mode, I just need to link the two together. Thanks for your help! CC

Custom Insert / Edit Pages

I'm working with a legacy database that is not normalized, nor can i change it to normalize it and/or add relationships. I've successfully got my List and Details pages up and running and am now moving on to insert/edit. Here's my challenge: The insert page needs to accept data that will be written to multiple tables (i.e. consider a customer call where we're creating the customer, the customer address record, etc. on the fly). In addition, the customer can either be a "customer" or a "prospect", each being a separate table. Any suggestions as the best approach to tackling this issue. My gut feel is that I should write a standard aspx page and hook up the data manually. Not sure how to navigate to this page from the insert / edit button (modified routing). Thanks.

FindControl In DetailsView Edit & Insert ItemTemplate

Hey,guys. I got a problem about finding controls in Edit/Insert Itemtemplate inside a DetailsView.

Here is the code.

I put a Label (id= "Label6") to test whether the findcontrol method works or not. Unfortunately, I almost tried every means but still coudn't find it.

protected void Page_Load(object sender, EventArgs e)

  //Edit Button OnCommand
  protected void ButtonEditOnCommand(object sender, CommandEventArgs e)
  if (e.CommandName == "Edit")

  // Update Button OnCommand
  protected void ButtonUpdateOnCommand(object sender, CommandEventArgs e)
  if (e.CommandName == "Update")
  string sql = "UPDATE StudentInfo SET StudentName=@studentname, Score=@score, Grade=@grade, Remarks=@remarks WHERE ID=@id";
  SqlConnection conn = new SqlConnection(ConfigurationManager.ConnectionStrings["sqlconn"].ToString());
  SqlCommand cmd = new SqlCommand(sql, conn);

  // find controls
  if (DetailsView1.CurrentMode == DetailsViewMode.Edit)
  TextBox EditStudentName = (TextBox)DetailsView1.FindControl("TextBoxEditStudentName");
  TextBox EditScore = (TextBox)DetailsView1.FindControl("TextBoxEditScore");
  TextBox EditGrade

Combining view-only data and Dynamic Data on insert/edit pages

Hello all, here's a problem I've been trying to figure out an elegant solution for, but so far I'm coming up blank. I have a situation where I'd like to display view-only data and Dynamic Data together on the same page (without creating custom insert.aspx and edit.aspx pages). I've been playing around with using a SQL view, so that it returns me both my view-only fields and my updateable fields as well. I'm having issues with the insert side of things, the edit page works quite well, and I know I'm going to have to create custom delete logic. The major drawback to using a SQL view though is that to get it to behave you have to 'hack' the .edmx file, and I'm not sure I want to do that. So I guess what I'm asking is that has anyone had any success with this, or should I just bite the bullet and create custom pages for the situation of having view-only data and Dynamic Data on the same page? For the record I'm using the Release Candidate version of VS, and my website is an "ASP.NET Dynamic Entities Web Site". Thanks!

Creating a custom page for a different action - not insert/details/edit/list?

If want to make a new page with a different action (not insert/edit/details/list) is the website root the right place to put it?  That seems to be the only place where I don't get a "404 - Not Found" error.  I just wondered if there's a best practice for this ... maybe creating a new action in addition to List/Edit/Insert/etc so that my page can go in the same folder with the other pages for the same table.  For example could I add a "Print" action and then put my page in DynamicData/CustomPages/SurveyResponses/Print.aspx?

Thanks in advance!

Inplace Edit in GridView

In this article I am presenting a different way to look at EditItemTemplate, using which user navigation for editing is reduced and . it looks very different (see screeen shots) then regular implementation of GridView.

Edit GridView Individual Cells in ASP.NET

The ASP.NET GridView allows for a row of data to be edited by setting the EditIndex property of the GridView, placing the entire row in edit mode.

You may not want the entire row in edit mode if you are using DropDownList controls for several columns in the EditItemTemplate. If each DropDownList has many options then loading them all at once may result in a sluggish page. Also, if your data structure is more like a 2 dimensional array rather than a set of rows, you may want to edit each cell individually.

Here I will demonstrate how to achieve this and also how to deal with event validation without disabling it.

ASP.Net Gridview Edit Update Cancel Commands

In ASP.Net 2.0, GridView Control also provides the functionality to edit and update the data retrieved from the database using CommandField template. You can cancel the action using Cancel Command of the CommandField. GridView consists of events that can be used to perform the actions like edit, update and cancel upon the Data items displayed in the ASP.Net GridView Data Control.

Insert value using Table Value Functions

a real gem in Sql Server 2008. mostly people still using Stored procedure may be they shifted to SQL Server but they are not using TVF right now.

Insert Rows with a GridView

In ASP.NET version 1.x, I used the footer on the DataGrid control to insert new rows by placing a series of TextBox, DropDownLists, CheckBoxes etc. controls on it and then handling a save button. This also works with the GridView in version 2.0 but with one major exception: if your data source is empty, the GridView will hide your footer (and header) and only display the EmptyDataText.
