Dreaded 'breakpoint will not be hit, no symbols have been loaded' error!!

Posted By:      Posted Date: May 22, 2011    Points: 0   Category :ASP.Net

Operating System: Windows 7 64-bit

IDE: Microsoft Visual Web Developer 2008 Express

For the first time I have encountered the issue where breakpoints will not be triggered when debugging an .ASPX website. Earlier in the same programming session I was successfully using the debug option with no problems.  A search on the internet for the solution to this problem has highlighted the fact that is experienced by many users and that there isn't a defined set of actions that will resolve the problem.

Steps I have taken that have made no difference are:

  • Deleted the .NET temporary file folders
  • Re-installed the VWD 2008 software

I can create new websites and correctly debug them with no difficulties, but no matter how many times I try it on the website I was originally working on, I get the same result where the line in the code where the breakpoint has been added displays the 'breakpoints will not be hit.....' warning message.

I have managed to use a workaround to debug my code; I have downloaded the website to an alternative pc running VWD 2008, so there is obviously nothing wrong with the code itself!

I have also deleted the project files (.sln & .suo), created a new project, copied all the existing website .aspx content, but still I get the same error. It is hard to see where any associat

No symbols are loaded for any call stack frame. The source code cannot be displayed.

Hello.I installed VisualStudio.NET 2005 a few days ago.  ( not beta )While I'm debugging, I'm faced with strange message box.-- MessageBox --No symbols are loaded for any call stack frame. Breakpoints Not Working in VS2008: "No symbols have been loaded for this document."

Unfortunately, I can't get my breakpoints to work when in debug mode in Visual Studio 2008 (ASP.NET 3.5, Windows 7, IIS7). The website compiles and opens in debug mode, but the breakpoints themselves generate the following error message:

"The breakpoint will not currently be hit. No symbols have been loaded for this document."

There are some recommended solutions online, but for various reasons, either they haven't applied or I haven't been able to make them work. I've been trying to find the solution for about 12 hours now, and I'm getting desperate. Any help would be much appreciated.

Thanks in advance!

(Note 1: This problem is specific to this website. I do have other websites that I open in VS2008 where the breakpoints work fine.)

(Note 2: There is only one website/project associated with this problem. This website does not have multiple projects.)

Dreaded "Cannot connect to the configuration database" error in WSS 3.0 after MS updates yesterday (

I know this has been a common issue in the past after updates, patches, SPs etc. Tried several of the online "cures" no luck. I've got a standalone instance of WSS 3.0. Anyone else with this issue after yesterday's updates? If so, any luck?

Update: ran WSS 3.0 configuration wizard, held my breath, and voila it worked!

Page goes to error after click before page fully loaded.

Hi all ,

When user cliick on the control before page fully loaded it goes to error page.

Following is the trace.

Master Page Error - cannot be loaded

We're using WSS 3.0
I'm not sure what's gone wrong but it all happened after authentication was set to Kerberos and then back to NTLM.
That was all sorted but now we have another problem.

The live site works fine when browsing, but when opening a page in Sharepoint Designer it says Master Page Error - The master page file '~masterurl/default.master' cannot be loaded.
If i try and attach the master page I get an error stating 'Make sure Frontpage Extensions or Sharepoint Services are installed on the server.' and there is nothing in the Details.

Sharepoint Services are installed, we have two other sites (web applications) that are working fine.

When I click on the Web Parts Taskpane in Designer it says it can only be run on servers running Windows Sharepoint Services.
Also when opening the site in Designer it asks me if I want to edit the Live Web Site or a local copy, its never done that and doesn't for the other sites.

Any idea where I've gone wrong?

Debug symbols not loaded into any project

Some days ago all of my projects started working crazily - I'm using VS 2010, .NET 4.0, Silverlight 4 SDK, WP7 SDK. The previously compiled code parts can be debugged as they should be, but as soon as I make any change to the observed .cs file all symbols are ignored.

"The breakpoint will not currently be hit. The source code is different from the original version."

However, the compile is successful, moreover the changes in the code can be seen in the debug mode as well (e.g. if i add messagebox.show(...) it works as expected), but I'm unable to debug the project.

This happens to my Silverlight, WPF, WP7 solutions, Web Applications, so everything important. The most annoying thing is that I even reinstalled Visual Studio, the whole .NET Framework 4 Client Profile, but nothing changed.

I don't want to reinstall the whole OS, but this way i'm unable to work:/

Any help / tips appreciated on what to do / what else to reinstall.

'Master Page cannot be loaded' Error

Hi, I suddenly started developing some near-fatal errors with my Sharepoint site. I found that it was somehow difficult to edit the home page for the site collection, so I decided to create another 'default.aspx' and replace it as the hompage. Problem is,  the new home page was still using the original master page and looked funny, so I copied and replaced the old master page, keeping it as a copy just case. When the new home page still looked funny, I deided to change everything back, but then the following error occured:

'The Master Page cannot be loaded. "File Name"
Please attach a different Master Page or go to Code View to resolve the error'.

The link to attach a different master page doesn't do anything, and the 'go to Code View' link doesn't show the error. Strangely the file name of the master page it can't load is not the default master page, and more annoyingly, the file exists!!! I don't know what to do. In Internet Explorer, the home page only shows this erroe: 'File Not Found'.

Help me, what did I do wrong?

Dreaded server principal......security context error.

So yes I am getting the server context error. The full error is The server principal 'Thor' is not able to access the database 'ErrDbase' under the current security context.

I thought I understood impersonation so if you could kindly tell me where I am *NOT* getting it I would appreciate.  Scenario:

SQL 2005 Ent on W2K3

I have a sql login WebUser that has access to execute sp's on WebDbase. These Sp's call views on other dbases that WebUser does NOT have access to.

I have another SQL user say Thor. Thor has access to all dbases involved. The sp's in WebDbase have been created as "Create proc ... WITH EXECUTE AS THOR AS...

Now in the WebDbase sp's I have try ...catch. The try block contains selects, unions etc. At this point if the WebDbase SP calls another SP it is in the WebDbase.

The catch however is different. The catch, after gathering all the various error info calls an sp in ErrDbase to log the error. WebUser does not have access to the ErrDbase but THOR does...and we're executing under Thor right...The error message seems to indicate we are. Well when we try to exec an sp with error handling SQL must do some sort of parsing because it throws the context error without executing a single line.

Is this ownership chaining? I think it is so I have the DBA turn it on and restart the SQL ser

SSIS errors when run from SQL Job: ERROR [IM003] Specified driver could not be loaded due to system

There are a few similar posts but none of the solutions seem to have worked.

remote debugging VS 2008 - no symbols have been loaded

I'm trying to remote debug an asp.net application (windows 7 dev, windows server 2008 remote host).  It has worked a couple of times for me, but it crashes very easily and it's extremely painful getting it to work again.  Short of rebooting both machines and deleting all temp files, is there some easier way to fix the problem in the subject line?  Essentially after it crashes i can no longer set any breakpoints.

Everything works fine using local debugging.

IsapiModule Error 500 Issue

I am about exhausted trying to figure out this error:

HTTP Error 500.0 - Internal Server Error

Description: The page cannot be displayed because an internal server error has occurred.

Error Code: 0x8007007b

Notification: ExecuteRequestHandler

Module: IsapiModule

Requested URL: http://localhost:80/ReportServer

Physical Path: c:\Program Files\Microsoft SQL Server\MSSQL.2\Reporting Services\ReportServer

When I enable Failed Request Tracing Rules and view the log output I am supposing that the actual problem is in the 2nd call where there are 2 backslashes before the actual filename in the specified path:

CALL_ISAPI_EXTENSION DllName="C:\Windows\Microsoft.NET\Framework\v2.0.50727\\aspnet_isapi.dll"

Handling 404 page not found with Error page

Inserting personal error message in ValidationSummary

I am creating a web form that requires a lot of validation. I use many of the validation control in asp.net already like RequiredFieldValidator and CompareValidator.

My Problem: after my custom validation for the value entered return an error message, and I pressed enter key when the field is empty, my custom error message is overlapped by my ValidationSummary.

Setting my custom error to visible = false on button click also does not seem to work as it requires for me to enter the value first.

This made me think, is there a way to insert my custom validation inside the ValidationSummary as an error message like for other validation control?

Thanks in advance

Jscript error: Object does not support property or method

Hi, i have little knowledge on javascript but i need to use this code get from somewhere for a jquery to work.

I face this "Jscript runtime error: Object does not support property or method" whenever im trying to run this page.

In my experience, im get this error msg 9 out of 10 times i use javascript in my system.

Im using Microsoft Visual web developer 2008, i wonder if this is related to my problem, i not sure there is anything i need to add as reference or update anything.

But anyway, in short, i just couldn't use javascript code when using this development tool because of this sort of error.

Anyway, it happen that last time i tried use the same type of jquery code in another project and it seems to work well without an error.

But now when im try to use it again in this recent project i created, it come out with this error and i have no idea how to solve it even look through google and this forum.

It doesn't really seems like its the code problem itself although im not sure, because any javascript code just couldn't work.

So below is my code that i need to use.

<script type="text/javascript" src="http://ajax.googleapis.com/ajax/libs/jquery/1.3.2/jquery.min.js" ></script>
<script type="text/javascript" src=&quo

Type or namespace error.

A couple of days ago I started getting an unusual behavior when compiling Website projects. I have referenced class libraries added to my bin folder that are also correctely referenced in using statements in my aspx.cs code behind. When I compile, I get the

Error 4 The type or namespace name 'CommonClassLibrary' could not be found (are you missing a using directive or an assembly reference?) C:\Dev\Fiscal_Portal\Implementation\FMS Portal Site_new\App_Code\BLL\DataTables.cs 1 7 C:\...\FMS Portal Site_new\

The type or namespace name 'CommonClassLibrary' could not be found (are you missing a using directive or an assembly reference?)

error message that would typically be received when the dll has not been added as a reference or added in a using statement.

I can eliminate the error by adding an

HTTP Error 403 - Forbidden

(VB Express website directed me to ASP.NET Web Services which in turn redirected me to this forum).

Hopefully someone can help me here......

I am using VIsual Web Developer and downloaded the small business application to use as a starting point to help my wife get a website up for her small business. When I load the application, I can F5 and it runs fine but as soon as I make any modification to the app and hit F5, I get the HTTP Error 403 - Forbidden when it tries to show the website.

I notice a pop up that occurs when I run that allows me to choose the link for my app and it displays correctly (I close the webpage that has the error on it).

This seems like a pain, is there a setting I'm missing - I would think that this should "just work".

What's up?????
