Differences in Pro and Express versions

Posted By:      Posted Date: May 22, 2011    Points: 0   Category :ASP.Net

At work I have Visual Studio Pro, while here at home I only have Vis Studio Web Dev Express. Web sites that work perfectly on the job, break and I am constantly getting " name x does not exist in current context" if I try to bring work home.

Also, there doesn't seem to be a way to compile my code behind in Express.

What am I missing? Where should I start to look? I have been agonising with this for days now and I really need help!

TIA,

Alex

How to handle differences in HTML code from different browser versions?

First of all I'm still very new to C# so be gentle :p I'm currently trying to make an application that can login to a certain website and search for some numbers and so on that I can put in an overview, just to save some time. The only thing I found that could do this is the WebBrowser control, and I've managed to make it work, but when I gave the program to a friend it failed. I think it has to do with the difference in browser versions (he uses Internet Explorer 7, I use the latest) and if that's the case I'm pretty clueless how to deal with the problem, since I don't even know what the differences in HTML codes are in each version, and it seems like a lot of work to adjust all the html code to check for accordingly. For example it was even so that & changed to & in my application on my PC and that's only by using one browser so I dunno what happens with other browser versions. I assume that the WebBrowser control always uses Internet Explorer, even if for example Firefox is the standard browser, is this true? But to be sure I asked the friend to put his Internet Explorer as the default browser and still no go. So my question is: is there a relatively easy way to make sure that the program works on practically any PC, without me having to make exceptions for like version 1.6.7 or 1.6.8 (I have no idea what versions there are really)?

SQL server express versions

hi

i've created a database in sql server ex. 2008 but when i tried to use it at another computer i keep getting this message:

The database "<data base path>" cannot be opened because it is version 655. This server supports version 612 and earlier. A downgrade path is not supported.
Could not open new database "<data base path>". CREATE DATABASE is aborted.
An attempt to attach an auto-named database for file "<data base path>"  failed. A database with the same name exists, or specified file cannot be opened, or it is located on UNC share.

how can i solve this?

SQL Express - Arcserve - 2 istances with different versions (2005 - 2008)

Hello,

a server of our customer has an adhoc ERP system (managed by another company) with database SQL Server 2005 Express and ArcServe (software for backup).

In the database SQL Server 2005 Express there are a pair of databases for the ERP and more than 20 db concerning the  software of backup (CA ArcServe).

The customer and ERP company asked us to migrate the 2 db of ERP to version SQL 2008 Express R2.

I ask you if it was possible, on this server Windows 2003 R2,  to create a new istance of SQL 2008 Express R2 maintaning actual istances of SQL 2005 Express used until now to  avoid configurations problems of backup software or if there are problems about this strategy.

Thank you

Andy

Send Email from SQL Server Express Using a CLR Stored Procedure

Problem
One of the nice things about SQL Server is the ability to send email using T-SQL. The downside is that this functionality does not exist in SQL Server Express. In this tip I will show you how to build a basic CLR stored procedure to send email messages from SQL Server Express, although this same technique could be used for any version of SQL Server.

Solution
If you have not yet built a CLR stored procedure, please refer to this tip for what needs to be done for the initial setup.

Visual Web Developer 2010 Express "Copy Web Site" using different login

I created a site and am trying to grant another pesron access to upload changes to it without giving them my super-user login.

I made a login for her but I can't test whether it works or not because no matter how much I "disconnect" in the Copy Web Site page of VWD 2010, reconnecting to the same site always logs in as my superuser account without prompting me for a login again.

How do I test is the account it set up correctly before having her try to upload to it?    I want to force the login to remote site dialog to pop up again to test her account.

Any ideas?

Error: Encountered multiple versions of the same assembly with GUID...try pre-importing...TlbImp

Hi!  Can someone tell me how I can troubleshoot the following error: "Encountered multiple versions of the same assembly with GUID...try pre-importing one of these assemblies".

The website developed in VS 2010 (.Net 3.5). This error is only received on my workstation.  Another person developing the site does not experience this issue at all.  Also, not sure if this matters, but on my workstation the 'Assembly Information...' dialog contains no values even though the 'AssemblyInfo.vb' file does specify values for the title, desc, etc.  The GUID being referenced in the error is the main project of the three projects within the solution.

I tried looking through the GAC, but do not see any references to the projects or DLLs in the VS solution and am not sure what else/where to look.

If I delete the copy of the solution on my local machine and pull down a copy from source control (AnkhSVN) the solution will build with no error.  Once I make any changes, such as adding a new aspx file, then the error is received.

I can provide any additional information needed.

connection to SQL Server files (*.mdf) require SQL server express 2005 to function properly.

I dont have the SQL EXPRESS installed instead I have SQL Standard Edition.

I have two SQL Server instances installed.

1- UserLT (this is sql 2000)
2- UserLT\SQL2005 (this is SQL 2005 named instance)

But when i try to add a database to my VS website project I get the following error:

Connection to SQL Server files (*.mdf) require SQL server express 2005 to function properly. please verify the installation of the component or download from the URL: go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?linkId=4925

I went in Tools>Opetions>DataBase tools>Data Connection>Sql Server Instance Name (blank for default)

and changed the "SQLEXPRESS" to "USERLT\SQL2005".

But I still get the same error message. Any ideas how i can resolve this issue?

Good evening,

I have been using dreamweaver, but I wanted to try my hand at asp.net, thx for any info you can offer.

FLV file in Visual Web Developer Express 2008

I'm trying to embed a flv in my web page and I don't have a clue how to do it.

I downloded and installed ASPNetFlashVideo and the tools do not appear in my toolbox.

So if anyone has a work around it would be greatly appreciated.
