My code is:

public ActionResult Index()
            {
            List<GetCurrencyCountriesDataFieldsFromDB> List1 = new List<GetCurrencyCountriesDataFieldsFromDB>();
            List<GetCurrencyRatesFromDatabase> List2 = new List<GetCurrencyRatesFromDatabase>();

            _IGCFDB.GetCurrencyFromDataBase(List1, List2);

            var rate = from c in List2 where c.DboCurrency.Contains("GBP") select c;

system.linq.enumerable.where Issue

Hi,

I have a table "OSTAN" with two columns "ID" (Key index) and "NAME". I am trying to  construct a linq query to select the Name for a specific ID. I have not luck trying to construct the where clause. Here what I have so far:

using (XeledsEntities db = new XeledsEntities())
        {

            string SelectedName = db.Ostans.Name.Where( Ostan=> Ostan.Equals(Request.QueryString["Ostan"])).FirstOrDefault();
        }

Can anybody help me construct this where clause to set the Selected Name?

System.Linq.Enumerable+WhereSelectListIterator`2

Hi

I'm really struggling with Linq in my controller, i was helped with my last problem but now i have the following problem with the following error:

System.Linq.Enumerable+WhereSelectListIterator`2[Web.Domain.Models.Currency.Entities.GetCurrencyCountriesDataFieldsFromDB,Web.Domain.Models.Currency.Entities.GetCurrencyCountriesDataFieldsFromDB]

My code is:

 //------------------------------
           var CList = (from d in List1
                        select d);
           foreach (var d in CList) ;

           Response.Write(CList);

            //------------------------------

I've tried adding ToList(), .AsEnumerable() etc but still cannot get it to return list of data which is countries.

If i put Response.Write(CList.Count()) i get correct number of records 64

If i put a breakpoint on var CList, i can see the data in List1, but CList has a value of null

Can anyone see my problem

Thanks

George

Hi,

This is frustrating, and I don't know how to solve it.

I have a strange problem. I am adding a LinqDatasource object, and set the context:

        protected void LinqDataSource_ContextCreating(object sender, LinqDataSourceContextEventArgs e)
        {
            e.ObjectInstance = new KaruselaDataContext(ConfigurationManager.ConnectionStrings["ConnectionString"].ConnectionString);
        }

Then I get this error:
The type 'System.Data.Linq.DataContext' is defined in an assembly that is not referenced. You must add a reference to assembly 'System.Data.Linq, Version=4.0.0.0, Culture=neutral, PublicKeyToken=b77a5c561934e089'.

On web.config I already have this:
<add assembly="System.Data.Linq, Version=4.0.0.0, Culture=neutral, PublicKeyToken=b77a5c561934e089"/>

NOTE: The datacontext is in a different project (DLL proect) where I added a refernce to System.Data.Linq.

is there another way adding a refernce to a web project? or only though teh web.config?

Thanks.

System.Xml.Linq.XElement and XPathDocument

I have an XPathDocument that I want to save to a table using LINQ, but I get this error

cannot implicitly convert type 'System.Xml.XPath.XPathDocument' to 'System.Xml.Linq.XElement'

I create the XPathDocument from some (valid) xml contained in a resource file

XPathDocument xDoc = new XPathDocument(new StringReader(Resource1.TestXML));

when I try to assign it with LINQ, it flags up an error

NewDataItem.XML = xDoc  ----  error here

NewDataitem is a LINQ to SQL object created from the underlying table, 'NewDataItem.XML' is a column type of 'XML'

how do i (easily) convert xDoc so I can pass it into the LINQ object ?

Domain Models: Employing the Domain Model Pattern

In this article, we'll go through the reasons to (and not to) employ the domain model pattern, the benefits it brings, as well as provide some practical tips on keeping the overall solution as simple as possible.

Serializing Linq to Entities for use in a REST Service

What would be the best approach to send data retrieved from Linq to Entities over a rest service? For example, if you have a Linq to Entities class, say Products from the Northwind database. I want to return a subset of the Products (based on a query on the model) back through a service. First a retrieve a List<Product> from the context, and then i need to serialize the data and send it over the wire. If I use the exact Linq to Entities class, then there is so much "garbage" that it either fails outright (from a circular reference) or you are wasting bandwith. What is a design to overcome this? Create POCO objects for each linq to entities class you want to send and create custom code to tranform each object in the list to the POCO object? This is the only way I can see doing it, although it would be very tedius to create and maintain (unless some custom code generation was created). Is there a better approach? clients

The type or namespace name 'Linq' does not exist in the namespace 'System'

Hi, I uploaded my website to the server, and I have there a working with wcf - it should be fw 3.5 I saw that fw 3.5 is installed on the server and also we have there fw 3.0 sp1. I run my website : www.qenglishcenter.com and I'm getting an error : The type or namespace name 'Linq' does not exist in the namespace 'System' (are you missing an assembly reference?) shouldn't System.linq be already existed ? Thanks for any reply.

How to change the System Account into Domain Administrator account in Sharepoint?

I'm attaching the captured image from the Central Admin of our Sharepoint Server. (http://www.experts-exchange.com/images/346242/Central-Admin.jpg) As you can see from the Central Admin image, the user account shown is "System Account", in whereas I logged in as our Domain Administrator. Then when you check it's info from My Settings, the details from the captured image System Account Info was shown. ( http://www.experts-exchange.com/images/346243/System-Account-Info.jpg) How can I change it as be DOMAIN\Administrator & not SHAREPOINT\system or System Account? Please advise...

Change connection string of Linq to Sql entities

Hi all.I have a solution which uses Linq to SQL Data Classes to acced the db. I have a project for my domain objects in my solution, which is a class library and has the dbml file. When I set up the dmbl using the wizard, Visual Studio created an app.config file on that project with the connection string. It also creatting a settings file with the same info. I've noticed that if I change the connection string in the settings file, the app.config gets updated, which is the expected behaviour.However, I'm having a problem when I deploy my web site to the production server. I already set the app.config file's Build Action to "Content", and also set Copy to ouput directory to "Always". Nevertheless, when I install the web site and change the connection string in the app.config file, it still takes the old connection string, so obviously I get an error. I've found that it only works if I change it with in Visual Studio and then compile, but of course that's not an optimal solution, because any change in the production db server would mean I have to change my project's assembly, thus generating a new version.Any thing I'm missing? What do I have to configure so that the assembly takes the connection string form my app.config file directly after I deploy?Thanks a lot.

Left Outer Join in LINQ + Entities

HiI have found quite a bit of info on the net, but I can't get it to work. Here's the normal SQL query:SELECT cl.ID AS ClientID, cl.Name, cl.Surname, CLC1.PHONECODE + ' ' + CLC1.PHONENUMBER AS WorkNum, CLC2.PHONECODE + ' ' + CLC2.PHONENUMBER AS HomeNum, CLC3.PHONECODE + ' ' + CLC3.PHONENUMBER AS CellNum, CLC1.PREFERRED AS WorkNumPref, CLC2.PREFERRED AS HomeNumPref, CLC3.PREFERRED AS CellNumPref, veh.ID AS VehicleID, veh.MAKE, veh.MODEL, veh.YEAR, veh.REGNO, ws.ID AS WorkshopID, ws.JOBTYPE, ws.SERVICEADVISOR, ws.TIMEFINISHED, ws.TECHNICIAN, fs.ID as FollowupID, fs.TYPE, fs.DESCRIPTION, fs.SCHEDULEDATE, fs.WRONGNUMBERFLAG FROM CLIENTS AS cl LEFT OUTER JOIN CLIENTCONTACTNUMBERS AS CLC1 ON cl.ID = CLC1.CLIENTID AND CLC1.TYPE = 'W' LEFT OUTER JOIN CLIENTCONTACTNUMBERS AS CLC2 ON cl.ID = CLC2.CLIENTID AND CLC2.TYPE = 'H' LEFT OUTER JOIN CLIENTCONTACTNUMBERS AS CLC3 ON cl.ID = CLC3.CLIENTID AND CLC3.TYPE = 'C' INNER JOIN CLIENTVEHICLES AS clveh ON cl.ID = clveh.CLIENTID INNER JOIN VEHICLES AS veh ON clveh.VEHICLEID = veh.ID INNER JOIN WSBOOKINGS AS ws ON clveh.ID = ws.CLIENTVEHICLEID INNER JOIN FOLLOWUPSCHEDULE AS fs ON fs.WSBOOKINGID = ws.ID WHERE fs.ID = 2 There is a multiple join between CLIENTS and CLIENTCONTACTNUMBERS so it would return a single row of data. If you were to do a normal join on CLIENTS and C

Question on WCF service with Linq to SQL on 64-bit system

I'm trying this question one more time since I realized the work in in a 64-bit environment. I have a WCF service which runs in production in a 32-bit environment using VS2008 and .NET 2.0. We made a big change to our environment (lots at the same time) and I moved the services to VS2010, .NET 4.0, and 64-bit processes.  I wrote a new service and deployed it under IIS.  If I browse to the service I get the example screen and clicking on the link gives me the metadata.  So all of that is working. In my services I create a Linq to SQL context, perform a query, then return the result set as an Array.  I wrapped the context creation with a using.  My tests returned an exception "Attempt to access an object that has already been disposed".  I traced it down and found that the code executes, forces the query, returns the results, exits the using statement (disposing the context properly) then exits the method.  The next thing I get is the exception, inside framework code, and it is linq code attempting to fulfill the query once again. I have searched until I'm blue in the face trying to find prior incidents and fixes but all I found was one post, two years ago, same problem with less debugging, and no answer to the problem other than 'don't use the using statement' which is a bad suggestion.  So for a work around I wrote a Co

Entities Data Models with multiple Categories using a membership table

(Using SQL Server 2008 and ASP.NET MVC2) I have a simple business table and a category table. I have a 3rd table to map business to category, a many-to-many relationship. the Map table contains a BusinessID and CategoryID. I'm lost as to how I can load the categories into my Business View Model using the entities model.Without incorporating categories, my code looks like this: var businessList = from b in entitiesDB.Businesses select new Models.BusinessViewModel { BusinessID = b.BusinessID, Name = b.Name } with Business View Model defined as: public class BusinessViewModel { [ScaffoldColumn(false)] public Guid BusinessID { get; set; } public string Name { get; set; } public List<Models.CategoryViewModel> Categories { get; set; } } but if i want to populate the Categories with the mapped categories, how would one do that?Thanks in advance for any help!

Dear All,

Is it possible to make the linq object as serializable. I need to pass the serialized Data as parameter to the Remoting Method.

My LinQ Query is as follows
