Submitting ASPX form does not work until i restart the server

Posted By:      Posted Date: May 22, 2011    Points: 0   Category :ASP.Net

I have a ASPX form that when submitted does an update to a table on MS SQL Server.  This works fine 99% of the time.  Sometimes it times out and I cannot submit that form from that computer until I restart the server.  I can go to other forms and submit which does pretty much the same thing but updates other tables.  When I go back to the trouble form and try again it still times out.  I then remoted to another location to try from there and it worked fine with exactly the same data.  Came back to problem computer/form and still no go.  I tried another browser on the same computer and no go there as well.  I also tried updating another record in the same table and still got the problem.

So it seems that once the problem starts, it seems to lock any updates from just that computer and to that table.  Weird!!!

I have tried recycling the Application Pool, restarting IIS, SQL Server and the Firewall (both server and local) but the only way to fix it is to restart the server.

Your help would be very much appreciated.

John

C++ at Work: Form Validation with Regular Expressions in MFC

I thought I'd use this month's column to describe an interesting app I built using the RegexWrap library described in my article "Wrappers: Use Our ManWrap Library to Get the Best of . NET in Native C++ Code" in this issue.

AsyncPostBackTrigger doesn't work on server..

Hi,
I am new to asp.net and ajax. I have a problem while using update panel.
I have a tabcontainer with 3-4 tab panels. Inside one tab panel there is a cancel button. What i want to do is to when i hit cancel button in code behind i change active tab index to 0 so that tabcontainer shows first tab panel. I have update panel around tab container. This works at my localhost. But on server its behavior is very random. Sometimes it works sometime it doesn't. Unfortunately I am not able to debug it also. I don't know how to debug code on server. As on localhost it works correctly so I am kind of stuck.

SQL Server Express 2008 Setup fails. Support Rule "Restart Computer" Failed

Hi, I have been trying to install SQL Server Express for most of the day now without any luck.  Whatever I do setup fails at the stage of Setup Support Rules, Rule "Restart Computer" - Failed.  Needles to say I have restarted (several times!) and I have tried downloading  and installing the "Advanced", "Tools" and "Basic" versions, all give the same error.  Trying a repair does the same.  I have been searching the net for an answer without success, any help would be MUCH appreciated. Further info: I am trying to install a stand-alone installation on to a single PC running under XP SP 3 with .NET 3.5 SP1 installed.  The PC did have some earler versions of SQL server installed but I (?hopefully?) removed all of these through Control Panel.  Before trying the first SQL install I installed Windows installer 4.5 and PowerShell 1.0 as per the Microsoft Instructions. Running SQL Server Configuration Manager results in an error (MMC could not create the snap-in. The snap in might not have been installed correctly).  A directory structure for SQL server exists in "Program Files".  Services MSC shows SQL Server (SQLEXPRESS) as Automatic Statup (not running).  Trying to start this manually gives error 14001: "application configuration incorrect - re-install to fix" .......... Which is precisely what I'm trying to do.........:(

Server-side validation on an Entity Framework required field (property) does not work!

Has anyone had issues getting server-side validation on an Entity Framework required field (property) to work? The data type is a string (nvarchar). Server-side validation for required fields of other data types WORK fine. Only string fields have issues. I get the following error on UpdateModel(obj); of my POST method within the controller. Exception Details: System.Data.ConstraintException: This property cannot be set to a  null value.Source Error: Line 4500:                OnTextChanging(value);Line 4501:                ReportPropertyChanging("Text");Line 4502:                _Text = StructuralObject.SetValidValue(value, false);Line 4503:                ReportPropertyChanged("Text");Line 4504:                OnTextChanged(); I've even tried data annotations like this but it seems to get ignored.     [MetadataType(typeof(ObjMD))]     public partial class Obj     {

calling a web service on a remote server from an ASPX page

hi, I want to call a web service on a remote server. I've done "add web reference" in my project, and VS2005 has created the .discomap and .WSDL in the App_Web_Reference folder. When I try add the namespace representing the web server (the name I created when I added the web reference) by "using XXXXX;" the code does not compile because XXXXX is not defined. Have I missed any steps? thanks, -me

calling a web service on a remote server from a ASPX page (web site project VS2005)

HI,I am maintaining a web site project in VS2005 and have to call a new web service on a remote server. I've done add web reference, and created the .wsdl and .discomap files in the app_webReference folder.  When I try to create a object representing the web service in the code ( wsnamespace.serviceName ws = new wsnamespce.serviceName(); ) the code wouldn't compile. The web site project is already calling other web services. When I right click on the type representing the web service and "go to definition" it takes me to a proxy class (derived from of course SoapHttpClientProtocol) in the metadata. I think this is what's missing for  the new web service i'm trying to call. Have I missed any steps? Thanks in advance.-me

Form in iframe doesn't work.

I have put a form into an iframe. It is sent from another website to the php page on the site which has the iframe. Upon clicking the submit button nothing happens. Just a quick flash of the green page load bar. Why is this happening? SQL Server and MapPoint: Making MapPoint 2010 and SQL Server Spatial Work Together

While SQL Server is a good repository for geospatial data, it doesn't communicate with MapPoint as well as it could. So our geo-data experts show you how to read point and polygon objects from SQL Server and render them in MapPoint and how to write points and polygons back to SQL Server using Entity Framework 4.0 included with Visual Studio 2010.Eric Frost, Richard MarsdenMSDN Magazine September 2010

making page work after DB update in Form View

I could really use some help with this issue. I have a DropDown that allows the selection of a Category Code. The selection populates a Gridview with details of records matching the Category Code. I have only enabled the Select option on the Gridview, which when clicked populates a Formview in Edit Mode with the full record information. When editing is complete and the Update link is clicked, I can not get the page to properly reload/postback. When another Category Code is selected from the Drop Down the Gridview does not report a list of records.   Any help would be greatly appreciated.   Thanks,

Remote Blob Storage - does SQL Server do all the work?

Hi folks, I hope this is the right forum to ask this question - I couldn't find any specific SQL forums to post this so here goes... We are hoping to use Remote Blob Storage (RBS) and are running some tests to check suitability. When I first read the documentation I had assumed that RBS was something you install, configure, and it "just works" i.e. the client applications write to SQL, and SQL takes care of moving the files on via RBS. But after implementing a test following the sample code it looks like the application/client still needs to be RBS-aware and has to stream data into/out of SQL via an RBS client provider. Am I missing something here? I had hoped that existing client applications would not have to change their logic i.e. they could continue to access SQL Server in exactly the same way, but would benefit by RBS moving blobs from binary/image fields to RBS-enable provider storage. But all the samples point to the clients having to use .NET libraries to interact with the RBS functionality, and while SQL then takes care of the rest it would mean any client would have to be modified to support this. If that's the case, I don't see the point to RBS. Yes, it's fantastic that we can store blobs outside of SQL via a common API, and yes, it is transaction-aware so blob clean-up is a much better experience, but the client has to still do the work to enable t

Cannot publish InfoPath 2010 form template to SharePoint Server 2010 RC

Hi all, I am MSFT in Vietnam. I created a SharePoint list using InfoPath 2010 RTM 64bit. After publishing it to SharePoint 2010 RC, I see an error message:  Click on button "Show Details" the message is The list schema does not match the schema of this form. Refresh the data source and publish the form again. When I create new item based on published SharePoint list, I can see plain form not browser enabled InfoPath form. I checked InfoPath Form Services, everything seems to be good. What should I do to publish SharePoint list from InfoPath 2010 to SharePoint 2010 as browser enabled form?

Doesn't restart sql server rollback uncommitted transaction?

hi, i executed a long-running sql in the management studio. The sql updates many rows and all updates are within a transaction. After runing 30 mins, the hard disk is full. That's because of the uncommitted updates. Then, i restarted the sql server because I thought after restarting, the uncommitted transaction is rollback and the occupied hard disk space is also released. But i found that the transaction is rollbacked but the hard disk space is not released. Why the hard disk space is not released? how can i release the disk space now? Thank you for your help.
