Export query results to CSV file changing the delimiter to something other than comma

Posted By:      Posted Date: April 14, 2011    Points: 0   Category :

After running a query I can right click on the results grid and choose "Save Results As..." and choose the format as "CSV (Comma delimited)".

My issue is that the text includes commas and when I import to Excel there are extra columns.

Is there a way to select the character to delimit the exported text when saving to a file?

How to configure the file results of a query to custom delimiter

Hi all,

I use to do it is MS-SQL Analyzer to SQL 2000, but now with new MS SQL 2008 Management Studio I don't know how.

In the Tools->Options->Query Results to a file there isn't a option to custom delimiter... that I can see...

Any help would be apreciated.

When I save query results to a csv file I get spurious characters at start of file

If I edit a csv file created from a query result there are three spurious characters at the start of the file.

If I save the file using ansi encoding (clicking on the down arrow next to save button and selecting ansi) the characters do not appear, which is what I want.

Is there any way to default to ansi encoding when saving query results to a csv file?

Excel file not showing in search results

We have a strange issue. I have one Excel document (or at least one that I am aware of) that will not show up in search results for content within the document. I can find the document by title just fine, but when I search for words within the document I do not see it. The document was originally a 2003 Excel document and was recently converted to 2007. Other than that there isn't really anything unusual about it (some formatting stuff, but mainly just background colors and whatnot, nothing fancy). The crawl log shows the document was crawled without error. Anyone know anything else I can check on?

Search query returning 0 results

I'm using a query which returns 0 results but was working some weeks ago.  I checked the code and nothing has changed since then.  I created a Search Center Site on another port and using the same terms I get many results there.  I checked my scopes and they are all right. Nothing changed there either. Could someone help me figure out what may be the problem in my query.  Or maybe it's my Scopes/Content Sources configuration. SELECT URL, FileName, Title, Description, Rank, Size, HitHighlightedSummary, Path FROM SCOPE() WHERE freetext(defaultproperties, ' +légumes')  AND ( "scope" = 'Scope - My Portal - All Site - fr'  )    ORDER BY Rank DESCDaniel Siconnelli There is neither good nor evil... only mogwais and gremlins

Export to PDF file in ASP.Net

Creating data driven application is one of the most commonly done task in our day today application development. In these applications, reporting and generating reports in various formats is one of the repeated requirements we will get. Read the article Export to Excel in ASP.Net 2.0 - Gridview to Excel, DataTable to Excel which discusses some handful of techniques to export the data to excel file. Apart from excel reports, generating PDF report is one of the most common reporting requirement we will get in data driven application. Exporting data to PDF format is not a straight forward task like we do for excel file generation. To do this, we have to employ some 3rd party component or develop a component ourselves by understanding the PDF file standards.

Since, developing a component ourselves is complicated and time consuming task we can try using any free 3rd party component available in the market. In this article, we will try using one of most widely used PDF generation component called iTextSharp or iText PDF component.

Changing File Permissions of Disconnected MDF/LDF Files

I am a university professor and have over a hundred student project databases using the developer edition of SQL 2005 and 2008 on a portable hard drive.  All are disconnected from any server.  I need to move these to a new hard drive but no file system tool I can find will let me copy the .mdf or .ldf files.  Each of these files has a single user with permissions and the user is a long alpha/numeric string that seems to have been generated by SQL.  I can copy these files if I select each file individually and give full control permissions to my current login.  On some files I need to first take ownership.  I just don't want to have to go in and do this manually for 200+ files scattered all over the drive. I really need some sort of batch approach (including something that can be launched from within VB which I can use to navigate my drive's folder structure looking for .mdf/.ldf files) to let me change the permissions on these files.  As I said, I have a LOT of them and they are scattered around a deep folder structure organized by semester, course, project team, and sometimes project version.  Further, the files accompany other files such as VB projects, report projects, SSIS projects, etc.  I have access to Windows Vista and Windows 7 for doing this.
