how can I open a sql compact 4.0 DB from VS 2010 server explorer ?

Hi, I've downloaded the latest sql compact 4.0 beta, and I follow the Scott Guthrie sample (http://weblogs.asp.net/scottgu/archive/2010/07/16/code-first-development-with-entity-framework-4.aspx). It is working as expected, the DB is created. However, I cannot open the DB in the server explorer of VS (neither from sql management studio). An error telling me the version of the file is not supported is thrown. Note that I only have the 3.5 version in the provider list in the add connection wizard. What is missing ? thanks in advance for the help. stevePaying back the community for its help by writing articles : Have a Nice Day.Net Blog

SharePoint Server 2010 Search - not returning results but crawling without errors

I have created a Search Service Application on a SharePoint Server 2010 (RTM) Farm and used the default Content Source. I started a Full Crawl and it suceeded with no errors etc. I ran it a few times and no issues. But if I go to the Intranet Portal Web Appliaction and do a search for a document that would have been crawled it does not show up in search results...nothing does. I am not getting any errors in Event Log or ULS Logs relevant to Search. SQL Server and MapPoint: Making MapPoint 2010 and SQL Server Spatial Work Together

While SQL Server is a good repository for geospatial data, it doesn't communicate with MapPoint as well as it could. So our geo-data experts show you how to read point and polygon objects from SQL Server and render them in MapPoint and how to write points and polygons back to SQL Server using Entity Framework 4.0 included with Visual Studio 2010.Eric Frost, Richard MarsdenMSDN Magazine September 2010

Does the "F5 experience" work with a multi-server 2010 farm?

I have a multi-server SharePoint 2010 farm I'm attempting to develop against.  I have Visual Studio 2010 installed on one of the servers.  When I create a default Visual Web Part project and hit F5, I get an error such as the following:   "Error 1 Error occurred in deployment step 'Activate Features': Feature with Id '06789185-b4a0-41d8-a535-1d8602a05b97' is not installed in this farm, and cannot be added to this scope."   After a bit of searching, I came across a thread that suggested multi-server farms were not supported by Visual Studio 2010 in regards to the F5 experience of being able to deploy, activate, and debug a feature.  Can anyone shed light on this for me?Chris Stewart

How does SharePoint Server 2010 for Internet Sites Exactly Work?

I am a SharePoint developer. I work in a company that develops and deploies SharePoint Solutions for Intranet sites.

Now, we have a customer that requires SharePoint Server 2010 for Internet Sites. I have read some things about it, but I am still unsure about the SharePoint for Internet Sites deployment.

The informations I have found are not enough to understand it very well, so, I would like someone helps me.

What does exactly SharePoint Server 2010 differ from SharePoint Server 2010 for Internet Sites?

Is SharePoint Server 2010 for Internet Sites SKU the same than SharePoint Server 2010 one?

http://sharepoint.microsoft.com/en-us/buy/Pages/Licensing-Details.aspx Provides some information about SharePoint 2010 licenses. There, we can find:

"The Server only licensing model is for external users only. Internal users can use this license only if all content, information, and applications are also accessible to external users. If the server has items that are for internal use only, those users require CALs, and their servers require licenses for SharePoint Server 2010."

But, how can we do those restrictions? Using SharePoint permissions? How does Microsoft check it?

Cannot connect 2010 Access 2010 Excel or PowerPivot to Mobile SQL(SQL Server Compact) - SDF files

I've believe I've installed everything to read Mobile SQL .SDF files.  I've insalled Sql Server Management Studio, Sql Server 2008 R2, .NET 4.0 Framework and just about everything else I've read to see the contents of an .SDF file created for what I read directly from these product sources as this DotNet Compact Framework is the greatest new SQL stuff on the planet.  I can connect using the Management Studio and see the TABLE Stucture easy enough and I can query using some simple SQL Commands from the Management Studio but what really bugs me is if this is all so wonderful, how come I cannot connect to what the SQL Server 2008 R2 Server type "SQL Server Compact" Authentication: "SQL Server Compact Authentication in Office 2010 Access, Excel or even "WOW" PowerPivot!  I've run across a couple 3rd party .SDF Readers - one that exports to Excel such as flyhoward.com  I'm growing old with all the work around import export stuff and just want to use PowerPivot to  excersise the data......or should I use something that actually works like Tableau??

64 bit Windows 7 + Excel 2010 beta + SQL Server 2008 Enterprise SP1 = My DM Add-in does not work

I'm running W7 + Excel 2010 beta + SQL Server 2008 Enterprise on a full 64-bit PC.  My SQL Server 2008 DM Add-in installs properly (throws no errors), but neither the Data Mining nor Table Analyzer tabs show up on the Excel ribbon & are not available in the Add-in dialog box.  I also have all of the above on a 32-bit laptop, and both DM tabs ARE available on the Excel ribbon and seem to function properly.

As a test I uninstalled the add-in from both machines and reinstalled.  The issue was the same; the add-in shows up on Excel running in the 32-bit environment but not on the 64-bit environment.

Question:  Is this problem due to the 64-bit environment, or could it be something else?
