Unattended Installation, a problem with Upgrade property in the ini-file

Posted By:      Posted Date: April 14, 2011    Points: 0   Category :

Hi there,
I'm trying to install several SQL-Server instances on a single machine in a unattended mode. I'm using an INI.File. Normally looks this ini-file by the FIRST SQL-instance like that (a part of it..):

It works fine. Then I start with the next instance of SQL-Server and then get an error:
"Workstation Components, Books Online and Development Tools
Error           : A component that you have specified in the ADD_LOCAL property is already installed. To upgrade the existing component, refer to the template.ini and set the UPGRADE property to the name of the component."

OK, it's clear for me, there is already an instance of SQL-Server on the machine. Then I modified the ini-file and remove the installation items like BOL etc. Now it looks like that:

These changes help not at all - I get still the same error. Ther error says something about "UPGRADE" property. I've tried: UPGRADE=SQL_Books_Online, but this is obviously false.

How to solve this problem?

Installation Problem: 'Server Type Tab Not showing. Only File location shown

You cannot vote on your own post I am installing Sharepoint 2010 on WIndows server 2008 R2 64 bit machine. After entering 'product key' screen, it suppose to show Screen where 'server type' and 'File Location' tabs where we select 'Standalone/Server farm' then 'Complete/standalone'.

I have run the same setup on WIndows 7 OS and it does show up the screen having  options for 'Stand Alone/Server Farm'.

BUT on Windows 2008 R2, it does not. After entering product key next screen shows up having only  'File location' tab screen which also does not have 'Server Type" Tab.  This is killing me to proceed as I have to work with Power Pivot in Sharepoint integrated mode where its compulsary to select 'Server Farm' AND 'Complete' Options.

I as well ran prerequisteinstaller before running setup.exe. Prerequisiteinstaller completed succesfully. But setup.exe  has this weared problem. For workaround I tried from command prompt as well giving Cmd> Setup.exe /Config C:\SharePointsetup\Files\SetupFarm\config.xml.   BUT no change. Same issue screen does not showup with that options.

Installation problem with VWD 2010 on XP sp3.

I have installed Xp sp3 in my system.When ever i install VWD 2010. I will get auto shutdown of System. But it support vs 2005, VWD 2008 Sp1 with sql 2005 very well without any problem. Again whenever i try to Sql server 2008 express. I will get auto shutdown problem.

But i have read on Microsoft site, VWD 2010 and sql 2008 support XP sp3.  My system does not support good graphic and sound in Window 7 OS. I have MSI mother board and AMD dual core processor with 2 GB Ram.

what is the problem ? is there problem with hardware ?

While Importing Excel 2007 file to Datatable - headerrow problem

Hi there,

I am trying to simply extract an excel data from an uploaded file an put it into a datatable. In this case the excel file has 3 rows but when I fill the datatable I only see row count of 2.

I tried changing HDR:NO; to HDR:YES and vice versa, but no luck.

What am I doing wrong? (Note: the excel file cannot have a  headerrow)

string connstr = "Provider=Microsoft.ACE.OLEDB.12.0;Data Source=" + pFilePath + ";Extended Properties=\"Excel 12.0;IMEX=1;HDR:NO;\"";
            OleDbConnection conn = new OleDbConnection(connstr);
            DataTable dtTables = conn.GetOleDbSchemaTable(System.Data.OleDb.OleDbSchemaGuid.Tables, null);
            string strTablename = dtTables.Rows[0]["TABLE_NAME"].ToString();
            string strSQL = "SELECT * FROM [" + strTablename + "]";

            OleDbCommand cmd = new OleDbCommand(strSQL, conn);

            DataTable dt = new DataTable();
            OleDbDataAdapter da = new OleDbDataAdapter(cmd);
            //At this point row count=2 which doesn't make sense

Problem in accessing resource file dynamically.

Steps I have followed are
1.I have created myres.en-GB.resx file at C:.
2.then created locale specific myres.en-GB.resources using resgen at c: only,
resgen c:\myres.en-GB.resx
3.Linked the Resource File to Assembly using AL.exe which is giving me assembly at c: only.
Al /t:lib /embed:myres.en-GB.resources /out:ClassLibrary1.dll
4.I have created one web application using vs 2008 & then build it.
5.Then placed both resource file & dll in web applications Bin\en-GB folder.
6.Anf finally written code at page load like
 CultureInfo info = new CultureInfo("en-GB");
            Thread.CurrentThread.CurrentCulture = info;
            Assembly asd = Assembly.Load("ClassLibrary1");
            ResourceManager res = new ResourceManager("myres.en-GB", asd.GetSatelliteAssembly(info));

but after running application I m getting following error

An example of packaging web application containing database upgrade SQL file

A few months ago, we have a blog talking about extending the web publishing pipeline to package database project deployed SQL file.  In this blog, I'll show step by step example of packaging web application with SQL Server database upgrade SQL file using Visual Studio 2010.  This way, we can generate a web package with incremental SQL script to certain database version.  The scenario may help distributions of a web upgrade package which needs to be installed on many different locations, each with their own SQL server database.   1. Create a Web Application Project 2. Add a new "SQL Server 2008 Database Project" to the solution 3. Prepare a development database, such as my test1 database as the following: 4. File Download Problem

Hi everyone,

I am using a download handler to handle the downloading of files from my website.  I am using a slightly modified code from the Microsoft article http://support.microsoft.com/kb/812406

Everything is working fine and downloading, even with large files, but it does not show the file size for any of the files to download. Even if theyre really small.

Here is my code for the handler

public class DownloadHandler : IHttpHandler

        public void ProcessRequest(HttpContext context)
            string path = "";
                path = context.Server.UrlDecode(context.Request.QueryString["src"]).DecryptString();
            catch(Exception ex)
            System.IO.Stream iStream = null;

            byte[] buffer = new Byte[10000];

            int length;

            long dataToRead;

            string filename = System.IO.Path.GetFileName(path);

                iStream = new System.IO.FileStream(context.Server.MapPath("~/" + path), System.IO.FileMode.Open,
                            System.IO.FileAccess.Read, System.IO.FileShare.Read);

Generating MS Word doc from mht file gives smart quote problem

I have a word document to be generated using ASP.Net/VB.net.

So I have a word document template saved as .mht file on the web server.

In my ASP.Net code,I read this mht file content and replace certain string line Description$$ with the actual description from the database.Then save this content as .doc file.

This works fine but shows a box symbol when I have smart quotes " (not this one as I cannot type it here.The double quote which you see in MS Word,the slanted double quote).

I dont know how to make my word doc generated, show the exact double quote as in MS word.

If any of you have any idea of this please reply.

Thank you

Microsoft .net framework 1.1 installation problem

Well I know there is numerous posts about .net framework 1.1 installation failure,I have searched through a lot of them.I failed to resolve my  problem so I am posting this.when I try to install .net framework 1.1 redistributable package which I downloaded from here it installs  .net framework version 1.0.3705 then when I want to install .net framework 1.1 service pack 1 downloaded from here which has the file NDP1.1sp1-KB867460-X86.exe  it doesnt install showing the message  ''The upgrade patch can't be installed by the windows installer service because the program to be upgraded may be missing,or the upgrade patch may update a different version of the program.Verify that the program to be upgraded exists on your computer and that you have the correct upgrade patch.'' I have tried a lot of way to solve this including:using the stebner cleanup tool to erase all versions of framework then restarting  machine and reinstalling again but this way can't solve the problem,modifying registry etc.Other versions(1.0,2.0,3.0,3.5) are installing smoothly they are not creating problems only this fw 1.1.How can I resolve this issue.Please anyone help

Problem when using Activator.CreateObject and reading App.Config file

Hello, this is the scenario. I have an application that load at runtime severals dll. these dll are actually "adapters" that wraps calls to web services, database and so on. The app.config of the "main" application stores in config sections all information necessary to each adapter (i.e.Web ServiceURL..) and I have created inside each adapter a class to ready those values the loading at run time the DLL has been implemented by storing all necessary types into a dictionary of generics and when I need to instanciate it I call the Activate.CreateObject and I pass the specific type (I means the name of the Adapter class) The problem is that the adapter class itself is not able to get the config value because ConfigSection has not been initialized. If I write: IInterfaceAdap adapt = new myAdapter() -> I read the config data IInterfaceAdap adapt = (IInterfaceAdap)Activator.CreateObject (type) -> now way to read the data stored in the App.Config. I think that I undertood the problem but I'm not able to find a workaround to read data store in the app.config!! I need help please!!

SQL 2008 Installation problem (Could not fix registry key)

Hello, I want to install SQL 2008 client tools on a Win 2008 machine. The machine already contains an instance of SQL 2005 Express which I don't want to unistall. The problem is that the installation wizard complains about Consistency Validation for SQL registry keys. The log shows the following: 2010-08-26 10:14:46 Slp: Could not fix registry key HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\MSSQLServer\Client\ConnectTo. 2010-08-26 10:14:46 Slp: System.NullReferenceException: Referencia a objeto no establecida como instancia de un objeto. 2010-08-26 10:14:46 Slp:    en Microsoft.SqlServer.Configuration.FixSqlRegistryKey.Program.ContainsInheritedAce(Byte[] securityDescriptor) 2010-08-26 10:14:46 Slp:    en Microsoft.SqlServer.Configuration.FixSqlRegistryKey.Program.FixRegistryKey(String keyName) 2010-08-26 10:14:46 Slp:    en Microsoft.SqlServer.Configuration.FixSqlRegistryKey.Program.FixRegistryKeyAndSubKeys(RegistryKey key) I have created the "ConnecTo" key, which didn't even exist. I have also tried to set premissions to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\MSSQLServer to "Everyone/Full Control" but the installation fails over and over. Is there anything else I could try to get the SQL tools installed? Thanks in advance.
