I am really stumped here. This is a new machine, Lenovo desktop with 3.4GHZ sandybridge CPU, 12GB of ram and farily basic for the rest, running Windows 7 Pro. After unsuccesfull attempts to install SQL Server 2008 Express R2 on here, I reformatted completely,
and on a clean install of Win 7 Pro, I installed SQL Server 2008 standard with SP2, everything set to DEFAULT values.
Management console...no matter WHAT, will not recognize the server instance name, i.e. MSSQLSERVER or SQLEXPRESS (from the previous install). I've installed SQL Server many times and this has never occured. I tried looking into permissions,
the services themselves...enabled named pipes, tcp/ip - etc. etc. etc.
I'm obviously not looking in the right place or I've grossly overlooked some setting somewhere. ANY help would be much appreciated!
