Installing SQL Cluster side-by-side with existing instances

Posted By:      Posted Date: April 14, 2011    Points: 0   Category :

Hi All,

I have two servers with SQL 2005 running as separate instances. I now want to install a cluster over the two boxes with SQL Server 2008R2 while keeping the 2005 instances running for a while. The databases will then be migrated over from the 2005 instances to the cluster for testing. After a test period, the 2005 instances will have a final migration and be decommissioned.

So for server001, server002 and SQL Cluster name SQLCLU001, I should be able to reference them all on the network individually after installation and the individual instances will continue to run on the local disk until decommissioned IIRC.

From what i've done before, I think this should be fine and shouldn't throw any issues but I wanted to check that there weren't any obvious blockers to this. Licenses are all ok, servers are fast enough to cope with the new configuration. It's just the process I wanted to check out as i've not done an upgrade in quite this way before

Thanks

SQL Server 2008 side -by-side installation in Cluster w2k3 sp2.

Hi  I am ready with In-Place and went to Sr.DBA Manager, He rejected and he want 100% Database guarantee and 100% safe, down time does not matter for him and recommended me go a head with Side by Side. 1.If detach Database from SQL2k and attach to SQL2k8,I don't think  it is possible to attach back...is it correct 2. Is it required Create new cluster group for SQL2k8? 3. In 2 case what are the cluster groups I have to Create 4. Is it required to change connecting string from application? 5. If it is where i have to modify the connecting string in application level or in Database server level? 6. What are the settings can I take care after installing new sql server instance?  7. Is it required new virtual instance name for new installation (Instance)? 8.Is there any way to use existing virtual instance name for New instance?(so I belive no Need to change connecting string in application) 10.Is it possible to change instance name?(Old instance name to some other name and new instance name as existing instance name).  SNIVAS

Installing Integration services as standalone on a existing cluster

Hi All,

I have SQL Server 2005 std edition installed on a windows 2003 clustered server. As integration services does not support i was asked to install it as a standalone on both nodes. When I had started the setup it showing on both the nodes. How do i install it only one node at a time and not on the cluster. Do i need to have separate instance of sql server too.

Thanks

Migrate existing instances to failover cluster

I am a newbie. I read the following from on the page http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ms179410.aspx

Migration of existing instances of SQL Server to a failover cluster

First, you must collect current baselines for the existing servers, noting any existing bottlenecks. Assuming baseline performance statistics provide the following needs, and that a single drive with mount points would cover drive requirements, that would leave you with the following configuration:

SQL Server 1 - 8 processors, 16 GB of RAM
SQL Server 2 - 4 processors, 8 GB of RAM (needs RAM, plan for 12 GB)
SQL Server 3 – 2 processors, 16GB of RAM (baseline shows need for additional processors)
SQL Server 4 – 4 processors, 8 GB of RAM (needs additional network bandwidth, add network adapters for 4 dedicated connections)

To replace these four servers, the cluster node would require the following minimum configuration:
18 processors, 54 GB of RAM, and 6 network adapters

I have the following questions.

* What is the meaning of "to replace these four servers"?

call JavaScript - jQuery code from ASP.NET Server-Side

jQuery got so close to me lately that I can see myself adding the scripts to my project almost unconsciously. The thing is, jQuery is very useful for me, in almost all situations and it has been a do or die enhancement for all my project since I first put my hands on it.

Of course while using it, you encounter few situations which need a bit of research to solve, mostly when you are trying to combine it with some other technologies like: UpdatePanels and ASP.NET Ajax. For instance there are many situations when I would like to run some jQuery magic based on some decision that I make on the server side.

Use jQuery and ASP.NET AJAX to build a client side Repeater

By sending only data to the client, you can profoundly reduce the size of what you send and see a substantial increase in performance. You also allow yourself the ability to easily add features like light-weight sorting and paging on the client. This can not only improve your users' experience, but reduce server load and bandwidth requirements.

Client Side Gridview Pagination using JQuery

I would like to show how to use Client Side Gridview Pagination using Jquery Table Pagination Plugin by using Ryan Zielke.

To that end, I'm going to walk you through these four steps to effectively implementing a client side Repeater, using ASP.NET AJAX and jQuery:

Accessing SharePoint 2010 Data with Server-Side APIs

Accessing SharePoint data in server-side solutions is one of the most common tasks that you will perform as a SharePoint developer. SharePoint 2010 provides powerful server-side APIs that enable you to retrieve, add, edit, and delete SharePoint data programmatically. SharePoint 2010 also includes the new LINQ to SharePoint technology that enables you to work with SharePoint data efficiently and easily.

Adding Client-Side Confirmation When Deleting

The JavaScript confirm(string) function displays its string input parameter as the text inside a modal dialog box that comes equipped with two buttons - OK and Cancel (see Figure 1). The confirm(string) function returns a Boolean value depending on what button is clicked (true, if the user clicks OK, and false if they click Cancel).

Server side validation of Fileupload control not working

I've tried this method in my code behind to try and validate that the Fileupload control has a file or not. I get the error message the the event "Server Validate" cannot be found. Can anyone tell why? Thanks.

Public Sub CustomValidator1_ServerValidate(ByVal source As Object, ByVal args As System.Web.UI.WebControls.ServerValidateEventArgs) Handles CustomValidator1.ServerValidate

' Get file name

Dim uploadAvatar As FileUpload = DirectCast(AdvertisementForm.FindControl("uploadAvatar"), FileUpload)

divs do not display side by side

I have two divs. I want them to display side by side, on the same row. Using display:inline-block I can do that. But as soon as I position some text in the bottom right corner of div1, the two divs do not have the same vertical position. They are side by side, but the 2nd div starts at the vertical position of the positioned text in the 1st div.   Why would it do that?  Both Chrome and IE8 render it the same way.

( I am doing the nesting of the divs on the left side so that I can position absolutely within a div and not the page. I can't get text to position in the lower right corner of a div any other way. )

server side does not save data when using POST data to another URL using WebRequest

Hi,
I am using a IIS 7.5 on Windows 7. I have a simple application that uses System.Net.WebRequest to POST data to another URL (in fact, the server side URL is on my local computer and it is hosted in IIS 7.5).

  1.  The problem is the server does not save data from client although on the client side codes when I debug and I see the OK message return from the code line

response.StatusDescription; // this has value of "OK"

2. How can I debug the server code side where to receive the request from client side who posts the data ?

The following is the codes for client who posts data using System.Net.WebRequest, and codes for server side who received posted data to save to database.

Client side codes: // also run on my local computer

public string PostIntegrationXml(XmlDocument xmlSubmitDoc)

        {
