2. Locks-Timeout is 249.0880 lock timeouts / sec for _Total, 29.4718 lock timeouts / sec for Page, 219.6163 lock timeouts / sec for Key, 0.0000 lock timeouts / sec for RID, 0.0000 lock timeouts / sec for Object, 0.0000 lock timeouts / sec for Metadata, 0.0000 lock timeouts / sec for HoBT, 0.0000 lock timeouts / sec for File, 0.0000 lock timeouts / sec for Extent, 0.0000 lock timeouts / sec for Database, 0.0000 lock timeouts / sec for Application, 0.0000 lock timeouts / sec for AllocUnit

I am using sql server 2008R2 enterprize edition with 30 Gb of dedicated memory.

I have few question regarding regarding above performance counters.

What is acceptable limit for above counter and how can i reduce this if they are high.

ATL Server and Visual Studio .NET: Developing High-Performance Web Applications Gets Easier

When developing high-performance applications for the Web, developers often must choose between performance and ease of development. With ATL Server, new with Visual Studio .NET, developers get the best of both worlds. ATL Server uses a tag replacement engine written in C++, provides a simple programming model, and promotes enhanced performance and easy debugging. This article presents an overview of the ATL Server architecture, then creates a basic ATL Server project. It then goes on to explain processing SRF files, HTTP streams, forms, cookies, and header files. Managing session state is also discussed, along with file uploads and performance monitoring.

SQL Server 2005 Log Shipping and subsequent FULL backups that are needed

Afternoon,   I have a few Log Shipped DBs that are working great.   Currently they are set to fire off every 15 minutes 24/7.   My question is this ... I need to get FULL backups of the source DBs in order to restore them on certain Dev boxes.   If I were to execute the full backup on one of these Log Shipped DBs ... how would it affect the log shipping process?   Is there a special method to accomplish this?   As a side note, what would be some concerns/issues if in being able to create the FULL backups and not interupt log shipping, I were to create the backup using a 3rd party tool like Quest LiteSpeed?   I sure wish we were on Enterprise, then I could create a mirror and then snapshot off it to create my backups BUT ... that is not the case as we stand today.   Thanks

Do I need free space when doing full database restore in SQL Server 2005?

I have a drive 'F' with 40G free space. I try to restore a database whose data + log file size is 60G.

The restore fails. Is it because a full restore needs  free disk space of 60G in this case?

sql server high memory usage

Hello Guys

just wondering how do you handle similar situation, we had a call from angry client saying they are unable to do anything and things take too long to complete. when i logged in i noticed that sql server taking all memory (6GB) for some reason. interestingly CPU usage is normal.

I know i can run profiler to see what queries are taking such huge memory before it happens but what if it already happened and you want to see whats currently eating all that memory ? thanks for the advise.

sql server is 2008 and our desktop app is C# 2008.

Moving full-text catalog from one server to another using backup / restore

Dear Sirs,
I'm having a problem with Full-Text Catalog in SQL SERVER 2005.
The problem is: I did a backup of a database that has a full-text catalog from one server and restored on another server.
The restore worked perfectly, but the catalog is down because it is pointing to the physical path from the source server.
To recover this full-text catalog I tried the commands below:

use master

sp_detach_db 'SiteEng2004'

(FILENAME = 'D:\SQL SERVER\DADOS\SiteEng2004\SiteEng2004_Data.MDF'),
(FILENAME = 'E:\SQL SERVER\LOGS\SiteEng2004\SiteEng2004_Log.LDF'),

Unfortunately it did not work and the following error message occurs :

Msg 5120, Level 16, State 101, Line 2
Unable to open the physical file "D:\SQL SERVER\DADOS\SiteEng2004". Operating system error 5: "5(error not found)".

Could anyone help me on what I should do to restore this full-text catalog on the destination server ?
Thanks in advance.

Enable Full Text Index in VWD 2008 / SQL Server Express 2008

Hi, I am using VWD 2008 Express and SQL Server 2008 Express. I want to enable full text index in some of my table. How do I do that? I only have  SQL Server Management Studio Express 2008. As far as I know, I cannot use SQL Server Management Studio Express 2008 to update the full text catalog according to : http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ms365247.aspx

My tables are also not enable Full Text Search by default.

Any help would be very much appreciated!

Edit 1: Someone had a similar problem to mine on this link: http://forums.asp.net/t/1169961.aspx
I installed the Sql Server 2008 Express with Advance Services and made sure that Full Text functionality is installed. However I don't get a full text menu in SQL Server Management Studio.

Edit 2: I uninstall and reinstall SQL Server 2008 Express with Advance Services but still couldn't be able to enable full text index.

Edit 3: After see this, I guess I have to do it manually then:  http://forums.microsoft.com/MSDN/ShowPost.aspx?siteid=1&PostID=3912985

WCF service with WAS and High Availability Cluster on Server 2008

I have a WCF service using one-way net.msmq transport to deliver messages to a high availability cluster.

I have followed a few articles I have found on setting up WCF in a cluster environment and essnetially have the following queues

Cluster: private$\MI/ManagementInformationService.svc

Node A: private$\MI/ManagementInformationService.svc

Node B: private$\MI/ManagementInformationService.svc

Although I am not sure why I need the local queues.

I've installed the WCF application into IIS7 on Node A and Node B. I;ve configured both nodes to the following address:

address="net.msmq://{cluster endpoint}/private/MI/ManagementInformationService.svc"

So, I configure my Web Servers to deliver the MI to the clustered endpoing via WCF net.msmq binding.

At this point, everything works and as messages hit the clustered queue, they are picked up by one of the nodes and processed. However, when I fail over the cluster, the second node does not automatically spring into life, as I would expect it to with WAS. However, if I browse the WSDL for my service on the now-current node, then it does indeed spring into life and process the messages off the queue.

So I turn on WCF tracing, IISReset fire up the WSDL, IISReset (to flush the WCF Trace log) then see the following:

A warning: Cannot detec
