SQL Server Reported to be "Shut Down" Automatically

Posted By:      Posted Date: April 14, 2011    Points: 0   Category :

Hi,
3 days back, a support engineer notified us that all the services of 2 Database Servers at our data center had Mysteriously Shutdown. and they had to restart them manually. well, we had a look in the Error Logs, SQL Server Logs and even Event Logs. but couldn't find anything strongly suspicious. the 2 servers had shutdown almost at the same time ( apprix. 2 mins difference between the shutdown times). yesterday, there was another server with the same symptoms.

here are the facts i found. Date : 4/12/2011
Event Log - Application Log
8:50:00 AM - The MS DTC service is stopping.
8:50:00 AM - The connection has been lost with Microsoft Distributed Transaction Coordinator (MS DTC).
8:50:02 AM - Configuration option 'show advanced options' changed from 0 to 1. Run the RECONFIGURE statement to install.
8:50:02 AM - Configuration option 'Agent XPs' changed from 1 to 0. Run the RECONFIGURE statement to install.
8:50:03 AM - SQLServerAgent service successfully stopped.
8:50:04 AM - Service Broker manager has shut down.
8:50:04 AM - SQL Server is terminating in response to a 'stop' request from Service Control Manager. This is an informational message only. No user action is required.
8:50:04 AM - SQL Trace was stopped due to server shutdown. Trace ID = '1'. This is an informational message only; no user action

Can SQL Server automatically "reflect" data?

It seems that a table valued function must be "hard coded" to support the table defintion returned by the function. This is done in two places: 1) The TableDefintion attribute 2) The method signature of the "fill method". I have been told that 1) is not strictly required (used only by Visual Studio when deploying), but 2) seems to be necessary. My question is, is there no way that the system, SQL Server and so on, can simply use reflection to deduce the "shape" of the returned items? This would allow us to write generic code that does not need to change if we change the structure of the data (for example adding a field). If we are forced to write a "fill" method with a dedicated signature, then this will be very much tied to the data and need tweaking every time we do anything to the data. It would be very good if (for example) we could add an attribute to a field/property in our data (called [SqlMember("ID NVARCHAR(50)")] or something) that could then be used by SQL server to decuce the table defitition at runtime, it could easily do this once using reflection to get the field type/name mappings and all that metadata would be in one place, in the class/struct defintion for the items. Is there anything like this provided by SQL Server? I don't see how I could even try to code that myself, because the "fill methid" a

Automatically inserting server-side page events into C# when using code separation

I know this is a really basic question and I have spent the last half hour trying to find an answer so please forgive me if this has been asked before (it probably has)....When I create a web page with the C# code placed in a separate file I can't seem to easily add page events (apart from Page_Load). When I open the C# class code for the page all I see in the two drop-down boxes above the code is "Default" (with no other options in the drop-down) in the left-hand box and "ApplicationInstance,form1,Page_Load(object sender,EventArgs e),Profile" in the right hand box. I can't see a way to create the code for the other page events from either of these drop-downs.If I keep the C# code in the same file (i.e., not use code separation) everything works fine - I see "Server Objects & Events, Page, Form1, etc..." in the left hand drop-down and I can create new events in the right drop-down when either Page or Form1 are selected in the left box.Am I missing something really obvious? Many thanks for any suggestions

Save file automatically from server

I need to know the best way to have a user click a link that will download a file that is out on the server and save it to a specific location on their computer.  The file is a custom template for Microsoft Outlook signature.  Thus, it has to be in a certain folder and this folder will have a different location if the user has Windows 7 vs Windows XP. I wrote a ASP.NET page that captures the user that is logged in and use WebClient.DownloadFile to download the file.  However, I am getting an access is denied error.  Apparently my server doesn't have access to write to the user's folder.  My questions are. 1. How do I solve this and make it so that my server can write to the user's PC? 2. Is there a better way to roll out a custom Outlook template that the entire company should use?  Thank you,

error reported while upgrading SQL server to sp4

Hello all,

This morning i found that one of our clusters has not been upgraded from sp3 to sp4 for our SQL server 2000. As i tried to install the service pack i clicked next and entered in the virtual server name and clicked next again. I then received the following error (please note that the path is not correct as i had to grab this from another post).

Is there a way to disable this?

Data structure to automatically sync data between windows application and Microsoft SQL Server

Hello,

I dont know whether I am posting this question in the right forum, please move it if needed. I have a windows application that shows data from a SQL table. I cannot use DataGridView in the application, I have a custom form to display the data. I need a datastructure to hold the table data and I display it using my custom windows form. Which data structure should I use to automatically sync data between windows application and SQL Server? I don't want to manually write Update queries. Any help would be appreciated.

SQL Server (2005 to latest) - Change dynamic port to static TCP port 1433 automatically

Hello All !

By default, when I install SQL Server (from 2005 to the lastest), the TCP port 1433 is not set to 1433 on the network interfaces (see with SQL Server Configuration manager - Network Connections - TCP/IP enable - properties - IPAll).

Many of applications use this 1433 port. I want to change this port automatically, after installation and disable dynamic ports

How can I do this with a powershell script ? or by Transact-SQL ?

Thanks for advance for your ideas / help - Regards - Have a nice day ! RHUM2

call JavaScript - jQuery code from ASP.NET Server-Side

jQuery got so close to me lately that I can see myself adding the scripts to my project almost unconsciously. The thing is, jQuery is very useful for me, in almost all situations and it has been a do or die enhancement for all my project since I first put my hands on it.

Of course while using it, you encounter few situations which need a bit of research to solve, mostly when you are trying to combine it with some other technologies like: UpdatePanels and ASP.NET Ajax. For instance there are many situations when I would like to run some jQuery magic based on some decision that I make on the server side.

Making Ajax Callbacks to the Server Using jQuery with ASP.NET

In the first part of this article series I introduced jQuery's functionality and how it provides a rich client side programming model. This time around I'll expand on these concepts and show you how you can use jQuery in combination with ASP.NET using it as an AJAX backend to retrieve data. I'll also discuss how you can create ASP.NET controls and otherwise interact with jQuery content from ASP.NET pages in WebForms.

jQuery is just a JavaScript library so it will work seamlessly with ASP.NET both from page code as well as through backend driven code using the Page.ClientScript object or ScriptManager. You can use jQuery on its own as a client side and Ajax library that communicates with ASP.NET or you can use jQuery in combination with ASP.NET AJAX. The two actually complement each other quite well as jQuery provides functionality that the ASP.NET AJAX library does not and vice versa. For the most part the interaction between the two libraries is trouble free except for a few very rare edge cases.

MS SQL Server: Disconnect Users From Database - Kill User Session

If you ever wanted to restore your database from a SQL backup file (.bak), but there are still users connected to your database, the backup operation will fail causing the error: Exclusive access could not be obtained because the database is in use.

MS SQL Server: Search All Tables, Columns & Rows For Data or Keyword Query

If you need to search your entire database for specific data, this query will come in handy.

So when a client needs a custom report or some sort of custom development using Great Plains, most of the time I will have to track down the data in the system by running this query and find the table(s) it is in.

Publishing SQL Server Database using Publishing Wizard : Tips & Tricks

We can use SQL Server Publishing Wizard to deploy our local Database to remote hosting server/production server. This feature is available in SQL Server 2008/VWD 2008.

Below is the complete step by step guide of this process.

CLR Integration With Microsoft SQL Server

Transact-SQL provides as much flexibility as possible but, because it is not a real programming language, it has some shortcomings about many issues (memory management, exception handling, debugging, file processing (or streaming), object-orientation (classes), or thread management). Transact-SQL also lacks features of normal libraries (arrays, collections, serialization, expressions, or string manipulations, etc).
