Distribution clean up: distribution failing

Posted By:      Posted Date: April 14, 2011    Points: 0   Category :

The job Distribution clean up: distribution continues to fail with the following error:

Executed as user:. Could not continue scan with NOLOCK due to data movement. [SQLSTATE 42000] (Error 601).  The step failed.

It was working but now is failing with that error.  How do I go about troubleshooting this error?

Thank you,

Return of the Rich Client: Code Access Security and Distribution Features in .NET Enhance Client-Sid

Rich clients employ many of the features and conveniences of the operating system they run on, and the list of these features has been growing since the dawn of the PC. But as apps have migrated to the Web, the trend towards increasing client-side functionality has ground to a virtual halt. There are several reasons for this; chief among them are security and deployment problems. But that's all about to change. With the .NET Framework, you can participate in building the distributable rich client of the future. In this article, the author enumerates the pertinent features of .NET that will allow you to build safe, easily deployable controls. The features discussed include managed code, code access security, versioning control, Windows Forms classes, and isolation.

Making an Exchange Distribution List an Approver for a Workflow step

I have a client that has an Exchange Distribution List populate by a team of specific stakeholders. They want a workflow that includes the Distribution List as an approver so that everyone in that DL has to approve before it moves on to the executive steering committee. What are the proper steps to making an Exchange DL a approver to a workflow in MOSS?  silly rabbit, tricks are for kids!

Cannot set Host Distribution Rules with two Crawl databases, crawl component cannot be dismounted

When I try to set Host Distribution Rules I get the following error: Redistribution status: Failed - Crawl component GUID-crawl-5 on SERVERNAME cannot be dismounted. Check that the server is available. Farm Topology: 2 Frontend Server 2 Query Server with partitioned Index 2 Index Server with 2 crawl components with 2 crawl Databases 2 Application Server The 2 crawl components then stay in status Initializing, when retrying (only Option), I get the same error again I tried the following steps - Delete the Crawl Component that cannot be unmounted --> stops with error, Server cannot be contactet - Move the Crawl Component to Crawl Database 1 --> error - Reboot the Crawl Server - Take the crawl Server out of the Farm and rejoin, then delete the crawl component --> this worked, I could rebuild the Search Topology - Then try to set the Host Distribution Rules -> same error as in the beginning --> grr Any ideas?

Question on Distribution Database ** HELP ! **

Hi, I am new to SQL2K8 replication.  I have been reading lots of articles/tutorials on this subject.  I was able to setup a Transactional Replication.  Everything is working as expected.   However, I wanted to further investigate as to what events are taking place behind the scene just to educate myself a bit more.  I found that in the process of creating my transactional replication, it created the "Distribution" database under the "System Database" node on my SQL 2008 box.  There is only one table called "UIProperties" with a column called ID.  My question is where is the Log Reader keeping the changes in my publications.  I can see when I made a change to a row in my publication, it got replicated to the subscription database.  But where is SQL Server storing these changes??  I guess when the distribution agents runs, where does it get the changes from?  From my reading, the Distribution database is supposed to keep tracking of these changes.  But I am finding any changes I made to my publication.  Can someone educate me on this? Thank you.

Distribution Agent Logging

I'm on SQL 2005.

How do you enable extra logging for the distribution agent? This is for troubleshooting.

I tried adding this to the command line for the distribution agent job, but hasn't created the file, so I assume logging isn't working.

-output E:\ReplicationDistLog.txt -outputverboselevel 2

configure distribution wizard does not appear on SSMS menu when trying to create new publication

Server A SQL 2005 sp2 Standard Ed. (9.00.3042.00)

Server B SQL 2005 sp2 Standard Ed. (9.00.3068.00)

A replication was setup on these two server a while back by someone else. Server A is the publisher and Server B is the distributor and subscriber. The replication was not working and was told it have never worked.

I was requested to rebuild the replication with local distributor, ie, moving distributor from Server B to Server A.

1. deleted the subscriber from Server B using SSMS.

2. deleted the publication from Server A using SSMS.

3. dropped the distributor using the following script on Server B

                         EXEC sp_dropdistributor @no_checks= 1

I noticed distribution database was gone from Server B. Both publication and subscription were disappeared on SSMS from respective server.

When I tried to create new publication, the "Configure Distribution Wizard" did not appeared as I expected, and the creation failed eventually with the following error.

Commands Stacking Up in Distribution Database According to Monitor

SQL Server 2005 SP2.  Push Replication.  One publication.  One subscription.  Distribution on publisher.

The Replication Monitor shows 800k commands waiting to be delivered in the distribution database.  The subscriber database is up to date.  This has been ticking up since I reinitialized the subscription two days ago.

The following query:

undelivered = sum(UndelivCmdsInDistDB)
	MSDistribution_status s with (nolock)
join [db].dbo.sysarticles a
on s.article_id = a.artid
group by s.agent_id

agent_id	undelivered
1	1218876
2	1218876
3	91

Agent_id 1 and 2 are virtual.

Are these two pieces of info related?  I am concerned that the distribution database will grow.  I am trying to figure out replication, but it has been tough.  Any help is appreciated.

Sharepoint foundation and distribution lists

Hi, I have a contact list in outlook exchange which contains a list of contacts and distribution lists. I would like to move this data onto a sharepoint list. The individual contacts have copied across with no problems the distributions lists which have groups of users inside them did not copy across. Can anyone tell me if they are supported at all in sharepoint foundation 2010?

SSRS 2005 Standard - Subscription to email distribution list?

I am delivering SSRS 2005 reports via email subscription. I would like to utilize distribution lists. However, we do not have an exchange server. Is there a way to create distribution lists on the server that can then be accessed through SSRS Standard?

Moving Distribution DB and Replicated DBs to a new SAN

I have Transactional Replication running between 2 DBs on the same server, Publisher,Subscriber and Distributor are on the same server. We are moving aal our DBs to a new and faster SAN, including the 2 I am replicating.

Which is the best way to move them without disrupting replication or having to take it down and recreate it ? How can I move the Distribution DB?

Removing Distribution lists from 'Memberships' section of Profile Page

We are using SharePoint 2010 with User Profile Service and My Site enabled. And we do not want to display 'Distribution Lists' in the Membership's section of Profile Page.

We have done UPS -> Manage Policies -> Distribution Lists (Edit) ->

Policy Setting - Disabled

Default Privacy Policy - Only me. (Because we did not find other suitable option)

But still DL's are appearing in the Profile Page.
