How to sync a client machine running sql express

Posted By:      Posted Date: April 14, 2011    Points: 0   Category :

Hi All,

I am trying to figure out how I can sync a client machine running Windows XP or Windows 7 and running SQL Express 2008 R2.  I want to try and initiate a pull from the client to the publisher (Merge Replication).  I am having an issue trying to figure out how I can use the windows sync manager to accomplish this since the client doesn't have SQL Agent to actually run the sync job.

Is there another way to kick off the pull from the publisher? I had originally wanted to push everything down from a server (publisher), but because of our strict firewall policy, etc I can't seem to establish a remote connection to the clients.

Any information or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Client script not running

Dear all,

in my MVC 2 application, and in the shared Master Page I wrote this little script for menu handling :

<script src="../../Scripts/jquery-1.4.1.js" type="text/javascript"></script>
<script type="text/javascript"> $(document).ready(function () {
     $('#nav li').hover(
         function () {
             //show its submenu
             $('ul', this).slideDown(100);
        function () {
           //hide its submenu
            $('ul', this).slideUp(100);

The script, that shows menu items when the

In this article the author introduces you to these express editions and builds a sample app to get you started.

net.tcp://localhost:80/MyService client/server errors while IIS is running - even though all Net.TCP

Hello, I am trying to create a simple WCF client/server solution in two Windows Forms projects, respectively.  I am using net.tcp binding on port 80 and have enabled the port sharing property.  My NET.TCP Port Sharing service is running.  I am using Windows 7 x64 and logged in as an administrator.  I've added my username to the smvchost configuration files, in both Framework and Framework 64 directories. I also have IIS running on port 80. However, there seems to be a conflict between net.tcp on port 80 and IIS on port 80 simultaneously.  My understanding was that the Net.TCP Port Sharing is supposed to be the solution for this very scenario. Here are the specific issues: 1.  I start the server in debug mode, which works fine.  I then try to connect with the client, and get the error: "You have tried to create a channel to a service that does not support .Net Framing.  It is possible that you are encountering an HTTP endpoint".  This seems to imply that the NET.TCP Port Sharing is not forwarding the request to my WCF server, and instead is encountering IIS.  This is the first problem. 2.  The second issue is that the Server starts fine in Visual Studio in debug mode, however when I try to run it as a compiled EXE (and right-click - run as admin) it errors "The TransportMana

Express 2008 R2 performance dire on VM vs Physical Machine

Like a lamb to the slaughter we upgraded a 2005 Express VM to 2008 R2 at first it seemed fine, then the users compained of poor performance. The database was now above 4GB so no going back. Performance was degrading, we noted the VM only had 512 ram, reconfiguered to 3GB and the machine ground to a halt  Literally - more than 1 user could not log on. A simple query would MAX the processor to 100% for 2 or 3 seconds. No stored proceedure was a standout as a bad performer. Only one user could log in at a time. All indexes were rebuilt (took 4 hours!) still unusable performance. Move the machine to a single processor xp with 2GB ram and 8 users can now log on simutaneously CPU bumps along at 5-20%. Is SQL 2008 R2 Express a no no on VMware? Should we recommend against SQL 2008 R2 upgrades?

Error when running an SQL script to restore a database on SQL Server 2008 R2 Express

Hi, At work, I use SQL Server 2008 Express running on Windows XP Professional Service Pack 3. At home, I also use SQL Server 2008 Express running on Windows XP Professional Service Pack 3. Whenever I do work on the database at work, I usually restore the database at home (or vice versa) I have been using the following SQL scripts to back up the database and to restore the same database (at work or at home). BackupRealEstate.sql USE Master BACKUP DATABASE [RealEstate] TO DISK = N'F:\My Documents\My Database\RealEstate.bak' WITH NOFORMAT, INIT, NAME = N'RealEstate-Full Database Backup', SKIP, NOREWIND, NOUNLOAD, STATS = 10 GO RestoreRealEstate.sql USE Master RESTORE DATABASE [RealEstate] FROM DISK = N'F:\My Documents\My Database\RealEstate.bak' WITH  FILE = 1, NOUNLOAD, REPLACE, STATS = 10 GO Everything worked fine until I replaced my 8yo home computer with a newer and faster one. My new home computer is running Windows 7 Home Premium and I use the latest SQL Server 2008 R2 Express. When I tried to run the above restore SQL script, I got the following error message: Msg 3101, Level 16, State 1, Line 2 Exclusive access could not be obtained because the database is in use. Msg 3013, Level 16, State 1, Line 2 RESTORE DATABASE is terminating abnormally. There was no other application/process using this database. Can someone please help me? Regards,

Running console apps on host vs dev machine

I've always assumed that you could not run code against a remote SharePoint server outside of webservices. Is this correct or is there something similar to the ICredentials / NetworkCredentials objects that you use for webservices.   I wanted to use an app I wrote on a MOSS 2007 Dev machine but the SPS 2003 machine does not have the needed libraries v12.0 libraries. This makes sense but of course I tried to get it to run anyways. Now I'm in the middle of installing Visual Studio on a SPS 2003 dev machine and wanted to see if there was a different way.   Thanks

We are receiving below error while connecting local ASP.NET site to Oracle server from 64-bit Win2k3 machine.  (System.InvalidOperationException: Attempt to load Oracle client libraries threw BadImageFormatException.  This problem will occur when running in 64 bit mode with the 32 bit Oracle client components installed. ---> System.BadImageFormatException: An attempt was made to load a program with an incorrect format. (Exception from HRESULT: 0x8007000B)) One strange thing is that from same machine, if we connect through local SharePoint site, it connects well to oracle.  Please help...

Database backup on Sql Client Machine

Hi there, I am using SQL server 2008 and I need to take a back up of my database on the local client machine instead of the server. I understand that the back up wizard lists only the server machine's drives and directories. Is there any way to create the back up on my local client machine instead of server. Thanks & Regards, Hari.

run dtexec on server from batch file on client machine

Hi I would like to enable a user to execute an SSIS (2005) package located on a server.  The client does not have any elements of SQL server installed on his machine so he cannot execute the package locally.  At present he has to remote connect to the server and double click a batch file on the server that contains the dtexec script. I would like to have a batch file located on the client desktop that he can click, that will run the dtsexec script on the server - as it will not work from the client machine.  However every set of commands i try inevitably end up trying to run the package on the local machine, which obviously fails. Is there any way to have the client kick of the package and have it run on the server, without him actually having to directly remote desktop to the client? Thanks  Guy
