Create Subscription When Have to Connect to client via specific port

Posted By:      Posted Date: April 14, 2011    Points: 0   Category :

Hi All,

Version: SQL Server 2008

Replication: Merge Replication

I am having problems trying to build a push subscription when I have to connect to a client via a specific port.  I can connect to the client via SSMS, but when I try to use the servername, port# SQL SErver says you have to use the server name and not an alias or port.  I am providing the server name, but I have to connect via a specific port.

Is there anything I can do with this scenario? I am assuming I will have connection issues if I don't supply the port #, because that is what is normally needed to connect.

Any thoughts?

create subscription on client creates no entry in Sync Center if there is another SQL Server 2008 R2

We created a publication on SQL Server 2008 R2 (Dev. Edition). Then we tried to create a pull-merge subscription on the client which should create an entry in Synchronization Center (Win 7) as well under Windows Explorer – Synchronization (Win XP).

This scenario works if there is only our instance of SQL Server installed on the client.

If there is another instance (default or another named instance) installed before we create our instance with subscription there is following strange situation:

-       Subscription is created properly within Management Studio, property for showing in sync center set to enabled.

-       No entries created in Synchronization Center or Win Explorer Synch.

Create web site specific to mobile device, how to detect?

I have a website that is written in .Net 2.0 which uses all the nice rich functionality of the web (Ajax, javascript etc..).  However I have noticed that the site does not display very well on mobile devices.

So therefore I would like to create a more streamlined version of my site that is better tailored to these devices.  However how do detect that the user has come to the site via a mobile device and how can i redirect them to my tailored page

Many thanks in advance

Hi, WCF Client (netTcpBinding) does not connect to remote DNS on Vista and Windows 7. With other OS like XP and Windows 2003, client connects to remote DNS properly. I got the following exception. How to bind a WCF Http client to a specific outbound IPAddress before making the request

I want my request to go out through a specific IP Addresses. Is there a way to do that in WCF. The explanation of why I need this is a little long winded so i'd rather not get into that. Here is sample code string ipAddress = ""; IService service; ChannelFactory<IOmlService> factory = new ChannelFactory<IService>(new BasicHttpBinding(), new EndpointAddress("http://" + IPAddress + ":6996/IService")); service = factory.CreateChannel(); service.Test(); Here is an example scenario to explain exactly what i'm looking for. Let's say I have two IPs on my machine ( and Both of them can hit If i run this code now, it will hit the IP (.32) from any of my IPs (.30 or .31). How can i force it to go through a specific IP of mine (say .30). Is there any way to do that using WCF? Thanks

Unable to connect to SQL Server 2005 remotly, all client protocols are blank

I have an installation of SQL 2005 and had issues connecting remotly. Looking at the client protocolols, they are all blank. I can see that TCPIP, Named Pipes, VIA, etc. are 'enabled', but where the words 'TCPIP', 'Names Pipes', etc. should be, it's just blank. I tried to install SQL 2008R hoping the Client Protocols would be corrected during the installaion, but they were not. I'm assuming the issue with the Client Protocols not showing up is a symptom of the problem. Does anyone have any ideas? Thanks!

connect client certificate to an account in a membership database

Hello I have created a web service that authenticates with username and password, works fine.Basically this one, http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ff649647.aspxNow I also want to connect to this web service using client certificates, works finehttp://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/cc948997.aspx But I would like to when authenticated via client certificates, connect that certificate to a user in the membership database.So that I can use Roles.IsUserInRole(...) and such.I thought that, well if I implement a Custom certificate Validatorhttp://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ms733806.aspxthen I could check for example subject and map that against a created username in the membership database.But in the class X509CertificateValidatorpublic override void Validate(X509Certificate2 certificate)I don't have the same ability as when the user is authenticatedlike  void OnAuthenticateRequest(object source, EventArgs eventArgs)HttpApplication app = (HttpApplication)source;Basically how can I do this app.Context.User = new GenericPrincipal(new GenericIdentity(username, "Membership Provider"),roles);withinpublic override void Validate(X509Certificate2 certificate)and if that is not possible, can this be solved differently?Bottom line, how do I connect a client certificate to a user account in the membership database. Is there a MSDN article

Create buttons for "new item" which create a new page of a specific content type

We have a Pages library (wiki) which supports a few content types (and page layout associated). We want to enable users to click a button for example of "new custom enterprise wiki page" - so a new page of content type article will be open in edit mode. Can someone help how to develop? (it has to mimic the behavior that happens when user creates new page from the Ribbon or Site actions and has to choose the content type, it also has to keep the new page in edit mode and not just create it).

How can a C# client app list the authorized CA certificates sent by a web server over an SSL connect

Hello, I am currently writting a C# client application that must access a web page over SSL authentication, having the Client authentication required. I know that the SSL protocol defines that the web server sends the list of authorized Certification Authority that the web server can trust for the SLL session to be successful. My client application has to filter a X509Certificate collection in order to popup a Certificate Selection dialog box to the user. I fould like to only display certificates that the web server would accept. I already have filtered the certificates according to the "Client Authentication" Enhanced Key Usage and other stuf. I know how to set the client certificate to be used for SLL conection, but I just would like to access the CA cert list provided by the server.   Could someone help me ? Thanks a lot !

Can not connect to SQL 2005 Instances from Client

Dear Experts I have a problem. I am not able to connect to Remote SQL Server instances from my PC. Though some of my team members are able to connect to the Instances without any problem. We have tried with all the below options and no joy. 1. We tried connecting, with the IP Address, like IP\<ServerInstance>, Port# 2. Added the IP address to Host file with the network address and tried, like <WINServerName>.<networkaddress>\<ServerInstance>, Port#, even without the Port#. 3. Tried to create an ODBC DSN, why this because, this had resolved the issue some times. Thought will help, but didn't work out. After all these, whenever we tried to connect to the server, we received the below error message. Error Message : Can not connect to <WINSERVER>.NetworkAddress\<DBInstance> A network-related or instance-specific error occured while establishing a connection to SQL Server. The server was not found or was not  accessible. Verify that the instance name is correct and that SQL Server is configured to allow remote connections. (Provider :TCP Provider, error:0 - No such Host is known) (Microsoft SQL Server, Error - 11001). Kindly help to resolve this issue. I have been strugling since quite some time. Regard Deepak

Create List Sharepoint Client Object Model Access Denied

I am trying to create a silverlight application by making use of the SharePoint 2010 Client Object Model using the following code:

private void CreateList(object sender, ClientRequestFailedEventArgs e)
  ClientContext ctx = new ClientContext("http://server");
  ListCreationInformation lc = new ListCreationInformation();
  lc.Title = "FlexiTime";
  lc.Description = "";
  lc.TemplateType = (int)ListTemplateType.GenericList;
  List newList = ctx.Web.Lists.Add(lc);
  System.Threading.ThreadPool.QueueUserWorkItem(new WaitCallback(CreateListCallback), ctx);

private void CreateListCallback(object s)
  var context = (ClientContext)s;

The error I receive is as follows:

Client using OpenSSL is not able to connect to Server using SslStream.

I have been trying to get a client written in C++ using OpenSSL 0.9.8a to connect successfully with a server written in C# using the SslStream class in .NET 4.0.  Thus far, I have been not able to get the client to successfully connect and communicate even when my server does not require a client certificate from the client.

I am getting always the following IOException " The handshake failed due to an unexpected packet format. " when i am reaching the AuthenticateAsServe() line in my server.

Any help will be highly appreciated.

how to connect my RTC client to server, if i'm firewalled?

hello everybody,

so i try to explain in short what is the problem.

My OS is WinXP SP2, and my computer ir firewalled from outside, i'm running Microsoft Firewall Client for ISA server.

My RTC client connects to the server over SIP protocol, registering, and after it is registered i can make calls such like PC-to-PHONE. The source of my RTC client you can find there: http://ausroma.projektas.lt/temp/Source.txt

it works fine when i connect to PBX sip server which is in our internal network, but i can't connect when i try to connect to the server which is outside firewall....

i have another SIP client (X-Lite): http://ausroma.projektas.lt/temp/x-lite.JPG and it works fine (register succesfully) when ISA firewall is enabled on my PC (when i disable ISA this client can't connect and i have registering time-out). I sniffed some packets, when ISA is enabled, and x-lite client connects succesfully: http://ausroma.projektas.lt/temp/xlite_sniff.JPG how we can see, there is sending requests, and we recieve respons
