Smart Tags: Realize the Potential of Office 2003 by Creating Smart Tags in Managed Code

While you may well be excited about the prospect of building managed smart tags, there is little information available to help you create them using .NET. In this article the author fills in the blanks. Along the way he discusses the Microsoft Office Smart Tag List XML schema, advanced managed smart tags for Office 2003 and Office XP, and deploying these features in an organization.

Presence / Smart Tags

I've setup sharepoint 2010 for the first time and have a very basic internal site setup. I have installed LCS 2007 R2 and I can use communicator fine with the people in the office. However their presence doesn't appear on sharepoint.

they all have SIP addresses configured as their email in sharepoint and Presence Smart Tags is Enabled. The sharepoint site is added to trusted sites as we use IE7 and active x controls are allowed for trusted site.

I don't knwo what else needs to be configured.

How to create a windows mobile (Smart Device) .Cab installer

A Cab file is the default setup format for Windows CE and Windows Mobile devices (similar to windows .msi files). You probably already have installed several application using .cab files, and are familiar with the concept. One point which is often unknown is that .cab files are processed by wceloader.exe, and it can only install one .cab file at a time. That means we cannot have nested .cab files. It doesn't mean we cannot have .cab files contained by another .cab, but the contained .cab files will not be installed during the installation of the container .cab. We should install it manually after the container .cab file installation has been completed.

There are two ways to create a cabinet (.Cab) file. The traditional one, and the friendly VS Smart Device Cab project which doesn't require additional coding, but which also relies on the traditional one at low-level.

Development Environment:  VS 2008 Pro, IIS 6, asp.net 2.x, sql 2005 server

Installed the version of AJAX Toolkit and Library for the .net 2.0 compatibility (as IIS is still using 2.x)

The problem is as that within the vs 2008 pro, when I select for example a button control...there should be an additional pop-up intellisense indicating...add extender.

to compound this, within the extender control ... the TargetControlID -- should be a drop-down list, indicating which controls are compatible with the extender ... there is no drop-down list.

even if I manually type the control to associate the extender with, this has no effect on the control (such as textbox control) -- as there should be another option appear indicating the association has taken place).

below is the steps to take (as written by MS) -- but this is what I am not getting:

"If the Button Tasks shortcut menu does not appear, right-click the Button control and then click Show Smart Tag."  -- the smart tag is not appearing

To add an AJAX extender control
Switch to Design view.

If the page does not already contain a ScriptManager control, from the AJAX Extensions tab of the Toolbox, drag one onto the page.

Gridview Enable Selection Problem

I have a gridview with Enable selection and Enable Paging equals to TRUE.

I also set the PageSize of my gridview to 4 so that I only displays 4 rows per page.

The problem is when I click the pager in the bottom of my gridview, my gridview is disappearing and no records appear.

Here is code behind of my gridview:

If e.Row.RowType = DataControlRowType.DataRow Then
                e.Row.Attributes("style") = "cursor:pointer"

                e.Row.Cells(2).Attributes.Add("onclick", Page.ClientScript.GetPostBackEventReference(sender, "Select$" & e.Row.RowIndex.ToString))
                e.Row.Cells(3).Attributes.Add("onclick", Page.ClientScript.GetPostBackEventReference(sender, "Select$" & e.Row.RowIndex.ToString))
                e.Row.Cells(4).Attributes.Add("onclick", Page.ClientScript.GetPostBackEventReference(sender, "Select$" & e.Row.RowIndex.ToString))
                e.Row.Cells(5).Attributes.Add("onclick", Page.ClientScript.GetPostBackEventReference(sender, "Select$" & e.Row.RowIndex.ToString))
                e.Row.Cells(6).Attributes.Add("onclick", Page.ClientScript.GetPostBackEventReference(sender, "Select$" & e.Row.RowIndex.ToString))

Rendering data with HTML tags in the DD Gridview for a selected column

I am having trouble finding out where and how to HTML Encode a cell's data on the Dynamic Data (v4.0) gridview of List.aspx.  As a simple case, suppose I have formatted cell data that is A<br/>B in the DB.    Obviously, I want A stacked on B in the cell.

It seems gridView1.HtmlEncode = true has gone away.

So maybe I'll try to catch it on the RowDataBound event:

protected void GridView1_RowDataBound(Object sender, GridViewRowEventArgs e)

            if (e.Row.RowType == DataControlRowType.DataRow)
                // Html Encode the cells

but this event never fires?

Has anyone figured out how to properly render HTML tags data in the List.aspx's GridView1?

If I figure this out, then I can add a MetaAttribute called something like [EncodeAsHtml(true)] and be on my way.  Thanks!

ReportViewer :: Failed to enable constraints. But my statement is valid!!

  • A
  • n error has occurred during report processing.
      • Exception has been thrown by the target of an invocation.
        • Failed to enable constraints. One or more rows contain values violating non-null, unique, or foreign-key constraints.

Why do I keep getting this error, even when not using any data on the report. When I run the query in SQL server I get a resultset. However when I try to render the report I get this error.
