In SSMS for SQL Server 2008, when I leave a connection open overnight to a remote server, I occasionally get disconnected. This is OK, and it's not the issue. I know there are several reasons that can cause this, such as the remote server could
have been rebooted.
The problem is that once this happens, under the Query menu item, in the Connection sub-item, the Connect item is greyed out -- so I can't try to reconnect in the same window. I also have a Connect icon on the toolbar, and it is greyed out also.
This query window is now dead.
If I open a new query window, I can connect with no problem, but I have to copy any temporary SQL code I was working with from the now-useless original query window, into the new one.
Why would the Connect item become permanently unavailable? SQL 2005 didn't do this. I have installed the latest CU on SQL Server client tools (SSMS says the client tools are at 10.0.4270.0). Client is on Windows 7 Pro x64.
Thanks for any info.
