ReportExecutionService.Render multi page reports and secondary streams (2008R2)

Posted By:      Posted Date: April 14, 2011    Points: 0   Category :

Hello.  I found the example that uses 'streamIDs' to determine the number of pages in the rendered report.  However, steamIDs always returns a zero length array.

The workaround to get all the pages in the report:

  pages = new Byte[0][];
  numberOfPages = 1;
  byte[] currentPageStream = new byte[1] {0x00}; // put a byte to get the loop started
  while (currentPageStream.Length > 0)
  {
   deviceInfo = String.Format(@"<DeviceInfo>" + _deviceInfoAddl + "<StartPage>{0}</StartPage></DeviceInfo>", numberOfPages);
   currentPageStream = _renderEngine.Render(_renderFormat.Name, deviceInfo, out extension, out encoding, out mimeType, out warnings, out streamIDs);
   if (currentPageStream.Length == 0 && numberOfPages == 1)
   {
   renderException = EnumRenderException.ZERO_LENGTH_STREAM;

Page Header, PrintOnFirstPage=False, HTML render fine, PDF export leaves extra space

As it says in the header.Setup:SSRS 2008, VS 2008 SP1Local Mode, rdlc fileDesign:Make a 1/2" Page header with a text box in it. Set PrintOnFirstPage=FalseBody contains a Table that spans multiple "hard" pages.Results:Renders to HTML in the report viewer just fine.PDF export leaves blank 1/2" at the top of page 1. With no header for page 1, I had hoped it would remove the extra space the same as in the report viewer.Question:Any way to tell SSRS not to leave space when page header is turned off for the first page?Attempts:Tried putting everything in a rectange in the header and set the visibility to false. Still leaves space.

What is the best way to develop a multi-page Windows Application (i.e. work like a web app - no pop-

Hi, I have implemented a toolstrip and want to use this as my menu to change current page (just like a web application). I DON'T want extra forms popping up.    I ask this question as in the past I have always used TAB Control, but now that I'm using the toolstrip I don't require the Tab Buttons themselves. Can I hide these buttons, during runtime. Obviously I only need one tab displayed at a time. I have looked at using a panel, but that means I can't flick between panels during design stage. Any suggestions would be really appreciated. Thanks. John.

Setting multi-value parameters using ReportExecutionService

Does anyone know how to set multi-value parameters using ReportExecutionService in C#?   If I have   rsExec = new ReportExecutionService2005.ReportExecutionService(); . . . How to know the number of columns displayed on the last page for Multi column table

Hi, How will I determine how many columns to be displayed on the last page of the report if I am using a Multiple column table.  I am going to use the number of columns to multiply with the width of the body of the report. I am going to use a Function to get the product.

Render XML text *inside* of an ASP.net page?

I have a block of XML text I need to show the user (so they can copy/paste the XML from the screen)

I use StringWriter() to make the XML a String but when I use Response.Write(xmlString) I get the following error

Microsoft JScript runtime error: Sys.WebForms.PageRequestManagerParserErrorException: The message received from the server could not be parsed. Common causes for this error are when the response is modified by calls to Response.Write(), response filters, HttpModules, or server trace is enabled.
Details: Error parsing near '<?xml version="1.0" '.

I guess IE does not like rendering XML in the middle of a page?

is there anyway to show the XML data in the middle of my ASPX page?

Many thanks! :)

Established reports render nothing after upgrading

Hi, all and thanks.

First, let me say I'm not sure if this is a report problem or a dataset problem...that said, here's what is going on...

I recently upgraded a web site from vwd2005 targeting framework 2.0  to vs2010 targeting framework 3.5 with related update to the web.config.  I'm migrating my reports that were built using reportviewer control in vwd2005 to vs2010; in doing so, I accept the prompt to upgrade to the RDLC 2008 format and the upgrade goes ok for the rdlc files (insofar as I can tell).  I then go and update my 1st report's aspx page to the new reportviewer control by drag-n-drop (the page is updated with the register assembly call and the web.config's compilation/assemblies and compilation/buildproviders are also updated).  I then update the rest of my aspx pages that contain a report.  After making the updates to each report's aspx page, I run the report to validate I have a working report.

I use objectdatasource on all the reports except one, which uses a sqldatasource control; about half of the reports take a parameter from the user--like a date range or a person's name.  These reports render nothing when the parameter is passed and don't even throw an error.  Those that do not take a parameter render just fine

Linked Reports - Multi-Select Parameters

I have searched for this but have not found any answers, or similar questions even. I have a report with several multi-select parameters. These parameters are populated by datasets that use stored procedures. When I go to "Properties" and "Parameters" of the linked reports, they do not populate the drop-down menu for the parameter, the parameter is simply blank and has an area for me to manually type in data. Is there any way to force these parameters to populate with a selectable list of options? Like would occur when running the report from the front-end interface, or setting up a subscription.

Thanks!

Page layout - Custom Multi line field limits at 255 chars

Hi group,

I hope i use the correct terms since I have a DUTCH :-( Sharepoint version.

I created a new Site Content Type, called activity.

I added a new column (Add from new site column)

The type of this column is: Multiple lines of text.

(I choose this because single line of text can contain up to 255 chars)

In Microsoft Office Sharepoint Designer (MOSD) I created a new pagelayout (File => new => Sharepoint Content => pagelayout)

and inserted the field activity to the .aspx page.

<SharePointWebControls:NoteField FieldName="Comments" runat="server"></SharePointWebControls:NoteField>

Why is the fieldname Comments I expected Activity?

I then created a new page (in MOSS) based on the created pagelayout.

Works like a charm.

Problem: I cannot add more than 255 chars to the field activity although it is a multiline type.

Does anybody

test-spcontentdatabase reports missingWebPart, but the page with the webpart has been deleted

I'm testing a MOSS2007 --> SP2010 migration - took a backup of a site collection db, attached it to the new SQL server and ran test-spcontentdatabase against it.  it reported several custom webparts as not being installed on the new farm.  I deleted the pages containing those webparts from the production MOSS sites, and then deleted those pages from the recycle bin - but test-spcontentdatabase still reports those webparts as being referenced.  Searching the database directly does find references on the pages I deleted in the WebParts table.  When I join the WebParts table with the AllDocs table I see the deleted pages referenced - but they don't exist (that I can tell) either on the site or in the recycle bin.

How can I get these items out of the report?

Thanks

-John

Page render issues everywhere

Sites appear to have no theme/master page applied at all when viewed on client PCs.  When viewed on the server, IE throws "Object expected" script errors on nearly every page, usually referring to an .aspx file.  This applies to Central Admin pages as well.

Central Admin renders fine on client PC's, but it actually occasionally loses its theme as well.  Even if it does render properly, some pages (so far just the Create Site Collection page, but I haven't browsed through all admin pages yet) throws a similar script error for an .aspx file.

I'm not sure where to begin!  Any guidance would be appreciated.

Excel Render - Print Header on Each Page

Hello Microsoft or Forum Members:

This seems like a simple Microsoft Based Reporting System 101 feature...But I can not find out how to do it (among other things that seem like it should work with Microsoft rendering to Microsoft).

How do I make the SSRS 2005 Header for the Report print on each of the pages in excel once it is rendered from SSRS?

All I want is an answer by MSFT that says "YES" it can be done and how or "No" it is not currently available.

I noticed I am not the only one with this type of simple question:
