Import of Interbase to SQL Server

Posted By:      Posted Date: April 14, 2011    Points: 0   Category :

Hi all,

Hoping that someone can offer an easy solution to this but I am sure that is not going to be the case, I have been given an Interbase database which they would like to import the contents in to SQL Server 2008, I was hoping that under 2008 SSIS there might have been some way of setting this up as a data source and importing it that way, something similar to a access database file or excel file.  It seems that I am going to have to install some software to host the database and then do the import from there, sure there must be an easier way as at the end of all this they want to connect something to the main interbase database and pull everything across so I am reluctant to have to doing 2 different things to test all this, any suggestions?

Thanks P

sql server 2008 import/export wizard... completely useless??

import/export wizard in 2000 had lots of options.

I could copy databases without a care in the world. Including constraints, stored proc., AND the data, etc.

Now, with v2008, the wizard is dumbed down too much. It's a "stupid" copy function that fails on the first constraint it meets.

"Copy database.." is not an option here: it needs sysadmin on both source and destination server.

Re-adding the constraints manually is not an option either: the database is WAY too large.

I'm actually hoping there is a temporary bug in the import/export wizard. Each option (and you have THREE...) returns with a new error.

Googling, I found I am not alone:

This post is exactly my situation. Here's what his post says: (bolded key parts)

Cannot import backup from Sharepoint 3.0 to replacement server

I want to retire a Windows 2003 Standard server (named Meton) running Sharepoint 3.0 and transfer its entire database in a transparent manner (I want it to be exactly like it is on the old server) to a 2008 R2 standard guest partitian. I have sucessfully backup up the old server using both the operations tab of the web GUI and this bat file: cd\ cd Program Files\Common Files\Microsoft Shared\web server extensions\12\BIN stsadm -o backup -url http://meton.pond_rd.wtpsmercer.k12.nj.us -directory D:\Wholesite -backupmethod full -percentage 10 -backupthreads 3 pause Both worked. Giving credit where due both this and the import bat were derived from information on http://www.epnetworking.com/blog/?p=179. Attempting to import with the GUI produced nothing. Then I ran this bat: c: cd\ cd Program Files\Common Files\Microsoft Shared\web server extensions\12\BIN stsadm -o restore -hostheaderwebapplicationurl http://sharepoint.pond_rd.wtpsmercer.k12.nj.us -directory C:\ -restoremethod new -username xxxxxx -password xxxxxx -newdatabaseserver sql2008 pause   Despite the information on technet that stsadm is not interactive there are a series of questions and it would not let me choice the default database name, see below. Import Word docs with Metadata into SharePoint 2010 from Windows Server 2003

I need to import 700 Word docs (2003 & 2007) from Windows Server 2003 into a SharePoint Server 2010 library.  I only have a test server to work with right now and want to do as much pre-work before we launch the actual server.

My goal: When we launch the shpt server, import all docs into a library so that columns propagate with metatdata automatically.

I'm not sure what the best approach is...

Can I can open each doc and add custom properties (maybe with InfoPath) to import as metadata, then import managed metadata through the term store tool and have it associate with the manually entered custom properties? I don't fully understand managed metadata, which might pose a problem.  And before I start importing terms, I thought I should find out if I've completely misunderstood how taxonomies work.

Or I have an excel spreadsheet with info about each doc in columns that can act as metadata. I could upload this as a list then associate each doc with the list.  But it seems wiser to enter the metadata into the documets.

Is it possible to update my docs in advance so that uploading goes smoothly? I have help now for data entry that I won't have later.

I have no resources to spend on tools, and have to figure out and build this&nbs

Import Excel-File (OPENROWSET) on x64 SQL Server

Hi, recently I encountered the following problem:

I tried to execute a stored procedure on the newly installed SQL 2005 Server (now on x64 Win Server 2003) which imports an Excel-File into a DB table.

We use OPENROWSET to access the Excel data. But I recognized this is dependent on Jet OLE DB which seems is not available for x64 windows.

Is there another way to import excel data using a stored procedure.

thank you in advance, rene

Using CSV files to import data into SQL Server ...

We load forecast and budget files into our DW via CSV files. In SQL Server 2000, this approach worked very well. However, when we redesigned this process using SSIS, SSIS seems to choke, especially when it finds "blank" rows in the CSV file while SQL 2000 DTS package works just fine with the exact same CSV file. Is their a setting that I am missing? I hate to either correct the CSV file so that it does not contain empty rows or tell my different site controllers to send us this file without empty rows. Any suggestions?

SQL Server Import/Export Wizard Crashes

Whenever I try to import or export data using SQL Server Import And Export Wizard, everything is great until I click on the "Finish" button.

The wizard gets to the "Setting Source Connection" step and at 0% complete, I get the message "SQL Server Import and Export Wizard Has Encountered A Problem And Needs To Close."  This happens every time I run the Wizard, whether it be from SSMS, BIDS, or the file manager.  It doesn't matter what type of database table/file I import to or export from.

If I select to Debug, I get this message:  "Windows Has Triggered A Breakpoint In DTSWizard.exe.  This may be due to a corruption of the heap, and indicates a bug in DTSWizard.exe or any of the DLL's it has loaded.  The output window may have more diagnostic information."  Here is the output:

'DTSWizard.exe': Loaded 'C:\WINDOWS\system32\ntdll.dll', No symbols loaded.

SQL SERVER 2005 - problem with Import Wizard

I am importing some tables from a MS Access to SQL server 2005 and I am using the import wizard but I am not seeing the data mapping tool, I need to have the ability to delete the data from the destination server and allow the identity.  I had done many times in the past, but I just got a new computer and I installed the SQL server 2005 workstation in it.  Is a setting that I need to change? that will allow me to have the data mapping.

Thanks a lot

How to Import Excel Data into SQL Server 2008(64 bit) Using SQL Query (in Windows Server 2008 64bit

I am developing VB .Net application in Visual Studio 2008(64bit), SQL Server 2008(64bit) and Windows Server 2008(64bit) environment.

I need to import an Excel and Flat files data into SQL Server database using SQL Query. I tried a lot with the following SQL Queries directly with SQL Server Management Studio,

1. SELECT * INTO dbo.ExcelImportTest FROM OPENROWSET('Microsoft.Jet.OLEDB.4.0','Excel 8.0;Database=D:\PTPLDCT\DCT Test Datasource\DCT_Excel_Test_Sample_1.xls',
'select * from [Sheet1$]')

While executing i got an error as below,

Msg 7403, Level 16, State 1, Line 1
The OLE DB provider "Microsoft.Jet.OLEDB.4.0" has not been registered.

2. I have also tried with MSDASQL provider,

Select * from openrowset('MSDASQL','Driver={Microsoft Excel Driver (*.xls)};
Dbq=DCT_Excel_Test_Sample_1.xls;DefaultDir=D:\PTPLDCT\DCT Test Datasource\', 'Select * from [Sheet1$]')

Then i encountered the following error,

OLE DB provider "MSDASQL" for linked server "(null)" returned message "[Microsoft][ODBC Driver Manager] Data source name not found and no default driver specified".
Msg 7303, Level 16, State 1, Line 1
Cannot initialize the data source object of OLE DB provider "MSDASQL" for linked server "(null)".

3. Finally i have tried the Query with Linked Server,

EXEC sp_addlinkedserver @server = '
