Data Services: Create Data-Centric Web Applications With Silverlight 2

ADO.NET Data Services provide Web-accessible endpoints that allow you to filter, sort, shape, and page data without having to build that functionality yourself.

WSE 2.0: Give Your Web Services Consumers the Exact XML They Need to Succeed

Web services use XML to communicate with each other. But sometimes the XML your service emits is not the same XML that another service is expecting. If you want to avoid the problems that this kind of situation can cause, you need to get good control over your XML serialization. Here author Chris Dix shows you exactly how to tackle this problem.

Metadata: Create a Database Schema Repository with Meta Data Services in SQL Server 2000

SQL Server 2000 Meta Data Services is a repository technology that stores and manages metadata for SQL Server. Instead of building database schemas over and over, Meta Data Services allows you to freeze an entire schema for use in other projects. You can also use these schemas for training, testing, or debugging. In this article, the authors will review the various components of Meta Data Services and show how it can be programmed using a Visual Basic client, XML, and XSLT. They will also show you how to manage and manipulate your metadata by generating a simple database schema using a SQL Server repository.

create a custom "newform.aspx" for document library using sharepoint designer and web services

Hi All,

I need to change the look and feel of "NewForm.aspx" for my Sharepoint 2007 Document Library. But the constraints are

1. I cant use C# coding. No Visual Studio.

2. Not allowed change anything in the farm level. e.g. cant install features/webparts fo this.

3. Can only use JavaScript, JQuerry and Sharepoint Designer 2007.

I came across some suggestions that we can create a custom page in Javascript/JQuery. Which will take all input data and insert new items in list/doc library using some XML services.

Please help me, I dont know if this is really possible. Let me know if any alternative is possible.

How to create a "Contracted Services" Dimension - the intersection of Customer, Contract and Service

Can some give me some guidance on how to create a 'Contracted Services' Dimension?

I have the following working Dimensions:

Customers and Services

And a Fact_Service_Usage. Fact_Service_Usage has a CustomerKey and a ServiceKey. This creates a proper intersection of Services_Usage, Customer and Service.

However, in our business we need to ensure we only report on 'Contracted Services'.

So I need to create a Dimension that properly enumerates only those services for which the Customer is contracted. I have a table called DimContractedServices that holds the CustomerKey and the ServiceKey for those services for which they are contracted.

In the Data Source View I create the relationships between the respective Keys and use the Dimension Building Wizard to create the Contracted Services Dimension.

This Dimension is not working correctly.

Could someone help walk me through an example of how they would approach building this ContractedServices Dimension correctly? Perhaps someone has built a similar Dimension and can give me some hints on how to structure this so that it allows the enumeration of the .MEMBERS for only ContractedServices.

Thanks very much for the assistance.

How to create a BCS (Business Conectivity Services) column programatically?

I have a SP2007 app that adds a BDC column to a list like this:

  string xml = "<Field Type=\"BusinessData\" DisplayName=\"Product\" ...>";
  SPField fld = list.fields.AddFieldAsXml(xml, true, addOptions);

  BusinessDataField bdcField = fld as BusinessDataField;
  bdcField.SystemInstanceName = instance;
  bdcField.EntityName =         entity;
  bdcField.BdcFieldName =       bdcFldName;
  bdcField.Profile =            profile;
  bdcField.HasActions =         hasActions;

How do I do it in SP 2010? Class BusinessDataField  does not exist in Microsoft.SharePoint.Portal.WebControls,
and I found no samples.

Thanks in advance

Installing and Uninstalling Services

Installing and Uninstalling Services.Unlike most projects you create in Visual Studio .NET, Windows Service projects cannot be run directly from the development environment by pressing F5. This is because the service in the project must be installed before the project can run.

You can quickly install your service application by using a command line utility called InstallUtil.exe.

Getting Started with Windows SharePoint Services

Of all of the capabilities of SharePoint, I thought I would start with the most basic installation - as a corporate intranet. It is likely that we will need to discuss some of the elements of SharePoint as we go along, so this also gives us the opportunity to review these elements for future reference.

Before going into too much detail, I would like to point out that you can try the core SharePoint framework (known as Windows SharePoint Services or WSS) for free. On Microsoft's Web site you can download a trial version of Virtual PC 2004 (VPC). Using VPC, you can install the Windows 2003 Evaluation Kit and the WSS add-on. This combination will give you 45 days to evaluate the setup.

Building a Searchable Phone Directory with Windows SharePoint Services

I want to continue to build out the intranet site we've started in our previous articles. A standard item in every intranet is a staff/employee list. Most companies implementing Windows SharePoint Services (WSS) are large enough to have a database that contains all employees. We will use the aggregation features of SharePoint to include data from this database into our intranet.

Building a 3-Tier App with Silverlight 3, .NET RIA Services, and Azure Table Storage

Silverlight 3, .NET RIA Services, and Windows Azure Services Platform makes a 3-tier Cloud application easier to build: Silverlight 3 as presentation tier, .NET RIA services as the business logic and data access tier, and Windows Azure Table as the data storage tier. The sample application in this article demonstrates the architecture with a simple Survey application with all these technologies working together from Windows Azure.

How to create 3 tier application using LINQ

As you know that in 3 tier architecture there are three layers

User interface layer. (Is our Form in Windows application and .aspx page in Web application)
Data Access layer. (Which provides interface between Business logic layer and Database)
Business Logic layer.(Which stores your application logic)

Create ToolTip for GridView Header

The following allows you to add a tooltip to the header links of your GridView, a feature that is lacking.

New Features in Windows SharePoint Services 3.0

Windows SharePoint Services 3.0 (WSS 3.0) is the next version of WSS 2.0, released on 2007, and Microsoft Office SharePoint Server 2007 (MOSS 2007) is built on top of this. Windows SharePoint Services 3.0 takes full advantage of Microsoft ASP.NET 2.0 and the core Microsoft .NET 2.0 runtime. WSS 3.0 offers a lot of new features and programmability support. I have consolidated a list of new features and enhancements in the below section:
ASP.NetWindows Application  .NET Framework  C#  VB.Net  ADO.Net
Sql Server  SharePoint  Silverlight  Others  All
