Taskbar application (prevent click activation)

Posted By:      Posted Date: April 14, 2011    Points: 0   Category :WPF

I'm working on an application, I already have it removing itself from DWM peek, but now I need to get it so that when the user clicks on the thumbnail for the application it doesn't just switch to the window.

Does anyone know of a way I can achieve this?

Changing the application title / name in the taskbar...

Hi all- I have a quick question....is there a way to change the name of my application within the window's taskbar?  Currently, on hover, it displays the name currently set as the Title of my application.  Is there a way that I can change this (a property on the Window object, etc) where I can maintain the window title, but have a different name for the taskbar?   Thanks for any help. How to prevent click sound on Frame.Navigate()

I have an application with several different forms which need to be filled in one after the other, so I thought I'd use a frame with pages.

However, I don't want a click sound when navigating to the next page.

Is it possible to get rid of it?

If not I have just discovered that I can set the source Uri instead but it would be nice to be able to use Frame.Navigate().

Empty Catch in Global.asax to prevent exception from stopping a web application?

I'm using a static Timer in my Global.asax to run a method at regular intervals. When the method throws an exception, my application is stopped. I have used an empty catch to prevent exceptions from stopping the application something like below code. Is there a disadvantage to use such an approach?

 protected void Application_Start(object sender, EventArgs e)

 public class TimerStarter
            private static System.Threading.Timer threadingTimer;

            public static void StartTimer()
                if (null == threadingTimer)
                    threadingTimer = new System.Threading.Timer(new System.Threading.TimerCallback(CheckData),HttpContext.Current, 0, 50000);

            private static void CheckData(object sender)
                   // a method that reading xml file from another url
                    // empty catch to prevent stopping the application

Prevent double click

 G'day All,

     This is my first post, and I am new to programming. I have created a website written in ASP.NET (4.0) with VB.NET (10.0) as the code-behind. I have created a game that plays Aton, the boardgame, via the web. I have created a board with multiple imagebuttons and standard buttons that are enabled for the user to click as the logic demands. My problem is : I need to be able to disable all of the imagebuttons/standard buttons after the user has made a selection (ie clicked on anything available). Essentially this is double click problem that has been discussed in the past. Up to this point, I have been able to use javascript to disable a single button (which works well), but I dont know how to disable the lot !

     I have searched far and wide, but have not been able to find a solution that works with the modern versions of ASP/VB. I have a grid of over 50 imagebuttons/standard buttons that all require disabling after any selection. Any solution would work for me, ie freeze screen, overlay image or individual button disabling. My instinct tells me that a large overlay would be the best, but I would like it work in all of the modern day browsers (Firefox, IE, Safari, Crome and Opera)

Access denied in Vista for AttachDatabase in SMO for click once deployed application

I have a C# click once deployed application that uses SQL Server Express.  A database is zipped and downloaded to the client computer and put in a directory.  In the application, there is a button to display mdf files that can be attached.  The SMO method attachdatabase(databasename, string collection of MDF and LDF) are used to attach the database.  When I run this under Vista, I get an access denied error message.

When I try the attach, the user has admin priviledges.  The click once program has a digital signature.

I want the database to be attached by the application.  I do not want to use SSMS.

Microsoft Enterprise Library 5.0 - Logging Application Block Activation Error

Hi folks,

I've been writing a class where I wanted to write the errors off to the OS EventLog. I was pointed towards the Logging Application Block. I used LogWriter successfully in a web page and transfer the code to the class so that I could have the functionality there.

I keep getting an {"Activation error occured while trying to get instance of type LogWriter, key \"\""} Error when I reach this line of code:

private LogWriter writer = EnterpriseLibraryContainer.Current.GetInstance<LogWriter>();

I had something similar with the daab getinstance call but I added the unity assemblies to the code and this resolved this. I thought this was the issue with this problem.

Could anyone tell me what I'm doing wrong?

Thanks in advance folks.

app.config code:

<?xml version="1.0" encoding="utf-8" ?>
        <section name="loggingConfiguration" type="Microsoft.Practices.EnterpriseLibrary.Logging.Configuration.LoggingSettings, Microsoft.Practices.EnterpriseLibrary.Logging, Version=5.0.414.0, Culture=neutral, PublicKeyToken=31bf3856ad364e35" requirePermission="true" />

Prevent double-click on button control

I've read several posts on this subject, but most solutions refer to using http://www.metabuilders.com/Tools/OneClick.aspx or to using javascript to disable the button (after the first click).  Both of these solutions would work, but I was hoping for some basic server code that uses the standard button control, and that I could re-use on various forms to prevent double-clicks.  Or if there are any good articles or suggestions on this that you could direct me to view I would appreciate it.  Thanks for your help!

Double click an associated file type and have it open in your WPF application?

I have a WPF application that does a number of things. When running the app, I can go to File > Open, browse to a file, and open it in the app. Fields on the UI are updated with values from the file and everything works great.

The file I am opening contains binary data and has a custom file extension that is associated with my application. The problem is that if I DON'T have the WPF application running and I double click one of my associated files, it simply opens the application. I would like it to open the application and then load the contents of the file I clicked on. How can I go about doing this?

I have looked into using the Application_Startup event handler in the App.xaml.cs but cannot get the filename when double clicking on it as my StartupEventArgs are empty. However, the sender.ToString from Application_Startup handler returns "MyCompany.MyApp.App". How can I get the filename and go about loading it?

Another thing is that if I put a breakpoint in the Application_Startup event handler and double click my associated file, I never hit the breakpoint. The only way I hit the breakpoint is when I run the application from the IDE. I would like to be able to double click a file, then hit the breakpoint so I can do some debugging.

Thanks in advance.

Cannot Minimize Windows Application from taskbar

This is probably a simple situation, but I'm baffled.   I have a Windows Form application in C#.  Now the form's FormBorderStyle is set to none.  When I minimize the application from within the application it goes to the taskbar.   If I click the icon in the taskbar, the form opens to normal.   However if I try to click on the icon in the taskbar to minimize, nothing happens.

I've tried searching but many of the response I'm finding deals with creating an icon in the Sys tray, which is not what I'm trying to figure out.

Any thoughts would be appreciated.
