Securing setup files from other users

Posted By:      Posted Date: April 14, 2011    Points: 0   Category :.NET Framework

I am creating a set up file.

in user inter faces > start >

i am adding a dialog called "text box (A) " it's contains four text boxes.

i need two text boxes one is for user name and another is password, for that i am doing visible = false in properties windows

when ever the installation starts after welcome screen of installation , text boxes are showing when any user press the next button without

providing these details it is allowing how can i validate that one.

for every user there should be a user name and a  password in the main server.

when ever the user provides the username and password and then press next the details has to be check by the database by a relevant

connectivity and continue the installation if the user is valid.

other wise show the message called "user name and password are invalid".

Code Name WinFS: Revolutionary File Storage System Lets Users Search and Manage Files Based on Conte

One of the monumental problems organizations face today is aggregating information that's stored in disparate formats. Knowledge workers have long wanted to be able to search for content independent of format. The next version of the Windows operating system, code-named "Longhorn," boasts a new storage subsystem that makes that task easier. That subsystem, code-named "WinFS," allows the user to perform searches based on the metadata of the stored item, regardless of what type of file it is or which application created it. This article covers the basic architecture of WinFS and explains how to use the WinFS managed API.

Change password for FBA users in claims setup not working as expected

Hi, I am trying to add a standard asp:changepassword control for external users. In the previous 2007 sharepoint environment this control was working "out of the box". I am pretty sure what is wrong as well,- but not sure how to fix it. A workaround that makes me able to change password is as follows: in the asp - control, I have added the option DisplayUserName="true" Then in the actual web-page, i can see that my username is: 0#.f|acaspnetsqlmembershipprovider|xxxxxx and not xxxxxx as i would excpect, as i use xxxxxx to log in. Editing the username to just xxxxxx makes the changing of password work, but this solution is not really nice to deploy to the normal end-users.. Any suggestion on how to make the username right? I've tried to set the username using the option UserName="<%=SPContext.Current.Web.CurrentUser.LoginName%>", but it does not seem to evaluate..

Setup Users to change domain passwords via sharepoint

Is there no way to nativally setup users to change their domain password or to notify them that the password will expire? The only way is to code a web site, is this a feature for a newer verson?

Securing files using Handler and App_Data folder

HiI have secured some files on my webserver by putting them into the App_Data folder in the root (I do not have the option to secure folders using the ASAPI filter)The user gets access to these files by requesting them through a handler, fx. by requesting ~/Handler.ashx?file=App_Data/MySubFolder/MyFile.jpgNow, I want to make all the content in a specific folder called "Members" (a single subdirectory of the App_Data folder) available only by passing a specific password. That is by requesting ~/Handler.ashx?file=App_Data/MySubFolder/MyFile.jpg&password=xxxxIn my Handler.ashx I have written some logic seeking if InStr(context.Request.QueryString("file"), "Members") = 0 before sending the file. If inStr <> 0 a password is required. Is this a good way to secure a folder in and its content? Is there a way of getting access anyway, like using some kind of "sub-directory" line in the path (the same way as you can request parent directory by using "../../Myfile.jpg)? I know there will be a problem if someone fx. legitimately tries to access the file App_Data/Members.jpgThanks in advance!-Jesper

Error opening excel files stored in SharePoint 3.0 from VS2010 (TFS2010 setup)

First I hope this is the correct forum for te below question, and if not, please excuse and if possible divert me to the correct place.

We have a TFS2010 setup with (what I managed to identify) Sharepoint Services 3.0.
We have 2 users working in the same collection, and also share some of the projects in it with the below problems:

1. User A has Office 2007. She is unable to "edit workbook" on an excel file directly from VS2010, and gets an error of 'Unknown error trying to lock file'. I searched this around and didn't find a solution, but did find a workaround - If she checks out the file directly from the SharePoint site, she is able to edit the file, and in fact is able to later "edit workbook" directly from VS2010 (as long as she once checked it out through SharePoint).

2. User B has Office 2010. When he tries to "edit workbook", he gets an error of 'A problem occurred while connecting to the server. If the problem continues, contact your administrator'. When he goes directly to the SharePoint, he is able to check out the file, open it in Excel 2010, but is not able to check it back in (gets an error that the file cannot be located or so, I don't have the exact error). This means that this user cannot work with the SharePpoint stored files at all, and currently works on local copies on hi

SQL Server 2008 r2 - Setup support files - Install error / reading from file

I'm installing SQL server 2008 r2 on a Win2003 R2 x86 system.

After i start the setup, the "setup support files" box begins installing, after a while i get this error:

"Error reading from file f:\1033_ENU_LP\x86\setup\sqlsupport_msi\PFiles\SqlServr\100\Setup\ewbfphdh\x86\Patch\rs2000.msp verify that the file exists and that you can access it."

I've tried another DVD, i've tried a mounted share on another machine...no go....i've tried an ISO file mounted on this server... same error.

Is there any way i can install this "setup support files" from another location? (download)

Is there a switch soo it won't install reporting services? (...i think this file rs2000.msp is from reporting services)

Show users which files they have downloaded

I am setting up an extranet for our organisation that allows clients to download a large amount of files (several hundred per month). This works fine in general, the only problem I have is that the clients want to see which files they have already downloaded and which not, as it is quite difficult to handle otherwise.

I have been tearing my hair out over this and haven't been able to come up with a good solution so far. Is there any way for SharePoint to display to the user whether they have already downloaded a file or not?

Thanks for the help.

Need to turn on/enable multiple files upload for some users

I have some users not being able to upload multiple files to a SharePoint folder.

Details: In the upload sub-menu I have

  1. Upload Document
  2. Upload Multiple Documents

However, the other users only have option 1 "Upload Document" but they cannot even see "Upload Multiple Documents"

What should I do? I am open to suggestions. If you need additional questions please let me know.

Preventing of Javascript files from being loaded for Anonymous Users

we have  developed an internet  site using Sharepoint 2010 and are trying to fine fine tune the site w.r.t. the performance and are trying to block the OOTB javascript files(i.e ie55up.js, init.js,SP.Core.js,cui,js etc.) for anonymous users.

Have tried all the conventional ways followed in Sharepoint 2007 for the same (i.e. tweaking SharePoint:ScriptLink , asp:ScriptManager controls, using Sharepoint:SPSecurityTrimmedControl etc.) but in vain.

It appears that the OOTB controls placed even in the Sharepoint:SPSecurityTrimmedControl block are called for anonymous users and call  the .js files).

Can anyone suggest the ways to remove the page weight , currently the javascript alone are taking 2MB even for the anonymous users.

Thanks and Regards,

SQL Server Setup Support Files Installation

Is there any way to install the SQL Server setup support files to a different partition/drive?

Function pulls PCs along with users. Wrong Class? Problem with AD setup?

I am creating a web app that interacts with AD. The issue that I have is I am trying to get all users in our domain  and the code I'm using seems to pull all the users however is also seems to be pulling all the PC names as well and I cannot seem to figure out why. Not sure if this will tell you anything but the PC names seem to be ending with a $ sign. ie a PC named LAB comes out in my list as LAB$.

    Public Function UpadateEmployees() As Boolean
        Dim boolreturn As Boolean
Dim strADUser As String = ConfigurationManager.AppSettings("ADUser")
Dim strADPass As String = ConfigurationManager.AppSettings("ADPassword")
Dim entry As New DirectoryEntry(_path, strADUser, strADPass)
        Dim search As New DirectorySearcher(entry)
        search.Filter = "(objectClass=User)"

        ' Declare objects
        ' Loop
For Each result As SearchResult In search.FindAll()

                Dim dirEntry As Directory

Setup alerts for multiple users

I am trying to figure out how to manage alerts for users of a Sharepoint site collection...

Essentially, we have a site collection - one main site and many subsites. Each subsite relates to a specific customer account. We have assigned various salespersons access to the sites based on what customer account they are assigned to. We are just using the site visitors group for this. In each one of these (sub)sites, we have 5 document libraries. What I would like to do is find an easy way where I can setup alerts so that if anything changes in any of the document libraries in subsite "A", that all users in the Site Visitors group will receive an alert (and so on for all of the sites). While we can certainly instruct the salespersons to add their own alerts for each of the libraries in each of the sites they have access to, this is perceived as very cumbersome.

Does anyone know of a way to manage (add/change/delete) alerts for users at a site level?

Thanks in advance...

SEcuring a set up file with user name and password from another users.

Hai ,Everybody,

the requirement is securing the setup file from other users.

the server having all the users details having UserName and password.

when ever the installation starts the setup has to ask the username and passwore.

at this time the setup will connect with the server and cvheck the details

if the provided is correct only the installer will continues other wise it will exists.
