How do I "Deploy" or install my Workflow Solution

Posted By:      Posted Date: April 14, 2011    Points: 0   Category :JQuery

I have a VS2010 Solution that includes two Window service hosted workflows. My solution uses WCF and MSMQ messages from the first service to pass messages to the second service. I have created setup program before for .NET Windows forms applications - can I do the same for my service-hosted workflows? What about creating the message queue, and the sql database?

I've read a little about AppFabric; is this a better route to go?

Add an instantiation form to workflow solution

Hi All. I have a VS 2008 Project for a Sharepoint(MOSS) 2007 installation. This project contains a Sharepoint project containing various List Definitions, Content Types and List instances. I also have 2 workflow projects in this solution. For one of my workflow projects, I require an instantiation form. I have 2 queries. 1:- How do I Add an aspx page to my solution. Anywhere I try to add items, I cannot see the aspx option 2:- When referencing the instantiation page in my workflow.xml, what will the path be? Please note that I need to use an aspx page rather than an infopath form for this. This page will only need to have one Multi-Line text field on it. Regards Andrew Berry - Software analyst/Developer

Install of wsp solution for visual web part ... how?

I have a newbie question -  I created a visual web part project that has a visual web part and an application page. It works well and deploys without issues on my all inclusive local environment using the deploy feature from VS2010. So to deploy this to the live server, I grabbed the .wsp file from the bin folder. Copied the file to the server and ran the following commands -   add-spsolution D:\MyWspFile.wsp Install-SPSolution -Identity "mywspfile.wsp" -WebApplication http://sp2010 -GACDeployment Both these steps work fine too. Then I go into the site features page to look for this solution but its name is not there (should it be there?). Next I go to the page I want to add this visual web part to but it does not show up in the list of web parts. The Timer job page in central administration shows the deployment as succeeded. What am I missing here? Thanks in advance, Jake.

Best Practice to deploy update packages on a production ASP.Net solution

Hi guys, I've a production web site.  It was deployed/installed using a standard MSI project.  But now, I'll like to create a kind of MSI package containing only those components affected during a fix.  Everytime I fix something in the solution, I've to manually copy/paste all modified components (ascx, aspx, dll, etc) to the web server.  Of course, I've a staging area from where I can validate that my package is completed and I'm not missing anything.  But I'll like to avoid this manual-risky-prompt-error process.  That way my fixes packages will looks more professional and I could even have our web manager deploying fixes on this production box. What folks do to deploy fixes? Any ideas? Thanks.

Deploy reusable Workflow on SharePoint Farm with other language pack

Hi all, I created a reusable workflow on my development system with no language pack installed. I saved the workflow as a template and saved the generated wsp. After that I added the wsp to a SharePoint farm at out customer (with the dutch language pack installed) and deployed the wps. Everything was looking good, but the WSP didn't creae a feature which I could activate, so I was not able to use the Workflow. Should it be possible to create a reusable workflow on a system with no langualge pack installed and install it on another system with a language pack installed? Johan.

.Net Framework 4.0 install failure & (possible) solution?

I repeatedly got the following error messages when attempting to install .Net Framework 4.0 on Windows 7 Professional x64:Log Name:      SetupSource:        Microsoft-Windows-WUSAEvent ID:      3Task Category: NoneLevel:         ErrorKeywords: Description:Windows update  could not be installed because of error 2359302 "" (Command line: "wusa.exe "C:\79021cf737df094c5735\Windows6.1-KB958488-v6001-x64.msu" /quiet /norestart")This error was listed in the msi install log:Product: Microsoft .NET Framework 4 Client Profile -- Error 1719. The Windows Installer Service could not be accessed. This can occur if the Windows Installer is not correctly installed.I was able to get the framework installed by going into the MSIServer registry key (HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\services\MSIServer) and changing WOW64 from 1 to 0.  I haven't been able to locate any good documentation for this value & its purpose, is this an acceptable way of getting this installed, and will it cause any problems in the future?  Should I change the value back to 1?  I have other machines with Windows 7 x64 Ultimate installed that did not have any problems with the 4.0 framework installation.

Install-SPSolution : This solution contains no resources scoped for a Web application and cannot be

What we want to achieve: install/deploy a custom site template ONCE so it becomes available to all site colls in several we apps.

We have
1) modified a web site based on a Team Site template
2) saved the web site as a template (template is available in (site coll?) solution gallery)
3) saved the site template as a file
4) added the site template to the farm solution store using add-SPSolution

When we try to deploy the solution to a web app using Install-SPSolution we get the following error message:

"Install-SPSolution : This solution contains no resources scoped for a Web application and cannot be deployed to a particul
ar Web application."

Obviously we are missing something here.

Is the ONLY way to add/install the solution at the site coll level?

If so, how is that done using Visual Studio 2008

If not, what other options do I have.

Currently, I am using WSS 3.0 operating on Windows Server 2008 using Visual Studio 2008 and I also have Sharepoint Designer 2008

Create Custom Site Template & Deploy as Farm Solution

So I've seen a few posts and blogs about this, but nothing with the specific error I'm getting.  All I'm trying to do is create a custom site template from an existing site (now WSP), and make that custom template available in CA so I can create host-named site collections from that template in PowerShell.  Apparenly this was a lot easier in 2007, as you could just save your template as STP, and run some stsadm addsolution to get it in the farm.  With 2010, I've read there are 2 options:

  1. Install-SPWebTemplate
  2. Deploy via Visual Studio 2010

I've tried running Install-SPWebTemplate (which only takes CAB files), and NOTHING I do works.  I've created a cab from the WSP with makecab, I've renamed the WSP to CAB, and all I get is "cannot find or parse web template file".  So on to VS2010.

Using this article as a guide (http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ff408263.aspx), I created a new 2010 Import existing solution project, left all items selected, and the import was successful.  I made a change or two to the ONET.xml to fix some things, and then I just try to deploy it to the farm.  Whether I set the URL to the root intranet site, or the CA URL, I get deployment conflict errors:

"The URL or

Can't deploy SharePoint solution even after changing Site Url property

I've developed a SharePoint 2010 solution in VS2010 and i've also deployed it on my site collection - everything works perfect, fine!

But when I try to deploy the same solution in another site collection (on local server not remote) by changing Site Url property of the solution to my new site collection, VS is not deploying the solution. I'm getting the following error:

Error 102 Error occurred in deployment step 'Recycle IIS Application Pool': Cannot connect to the SharePoint site: http://newsiteurl/. Make sure that this is a valid URL and the SharePoint site is running on the local computer. If you moved this project to a new computer or if the URL of the SharePoint site has changed since you created the project, update the Site URL property of the project.

I've packaged the solution and deployed it manually, it's working fine but i don't understand why i'm not able to deploy the solution on a different site collection on the same machine??

Does anyone else has experienced the same issue?

Thanks & Regards,

Hi All,

I'm trying to deploy a 2007 solution into 2010...

- Deployed the Solution (C:\Program Files\Common Files\Microsoft Shared\Web Server Extensions\14\BIN>stsadm.exe -o deploysolution -name WikiNavigation.wsp -allowgacdeployment -immediate)

How do you deploy a feature for sp2010 containing a whole branding solution?

Im attempting to create a sharepoint project, with one module containing a master page, stylesheet, theme and images to provide a clean, accessible and reuseable feature with this complete rebranding solution!

How to deploy SharePoint Designer Workflow to Production without using SPD

I created a few workflows using SharePoint Designer on the development server and now I want to deploy those workflows to production server. As the SharePoint Designer access has been blocked on the production environment, how am I going to deploy them? I saw some articles on the feature deployment, however it mention this is not officially supported by Microsoft. Is there any other ways? And I also need the detailed steps on the SPD workflow feature deployment if that works. Any reference? Thanks in advance.
