Visual Studio 2010 keeps randomly crashing?

Posted By:      Posted Date: April 14, 2011    Points: 0   Category :JQuery

I have been trying to test the new WPF RibbonMenu and VS 2010 keeps crashing and reloading randomly....

To Test:  I created a NEW Forms Project... added a new WPF UserControl then placed a RibbonMenu control inside the User Control... and the UC in an ElementHost on the Form.

I then try to add objects to the Ribbon Menu... Application Menu. QuickAccessToolBar, Buttons Tabs etc... doesn't matter what order but it as soon as there are a couple of objects added VS2010 starts to crash randomly... I might be looking at an item in IE when it crashes.... All extremely frustrating.... (recreated several times now)

One consistent thing I have noticed is that if I create a RibbonTab it shows in the UserControls Designer, it also shows in the Forms designer... BUT when I run the app there is no tabs... just the Groups and Buttons I placed in the first tab.

I originally tried to create the shell of the project in Expressions Blend4 but had to dump that and recreate in VS 2010 as there were too many issues.  (Would be great if that worked as MS says, as ExpBlend is great for the interface!)

Has anyone else had this issue?

I have added the last few event viewer crashes as well as my system info and the XAML code for the Ribbon Control.  I hope this helps.

Visual Studio 2010 randomly crashing

Hi,    I'm using Visual Studio 2010 Ultimate RTM and I'm experiencing frequent and random crashes (on an avarage of once in 5-15 minutes) of the IDE after which it restarts and any unsaved progress is lost. This is really starting to be irritating.   The event log has these entries:   1. Event 1023, .NET Runtime Application: devenv.exe Framework Version: v4.0.30319 Description: The process was terminated due to an internal error in the .NET Runtime at IP 59ECF146 (59D50000) with exit code 80131506. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- 2. Visual Studio 2010 crashing on 'Updating JScript intellisense'

Hi there.

I have been trying to upgrade a Visual Studio 2008 ASP.NET Web Site project to use Visual Studio 2010 and .NET 4.0

The project is contained under source control (Sourcegear Vault 5.0).

The project upgrade wizard runs and reports no errors (just the normal warnings about a project targeting an earlier version of the framework).

When I click Close on the wizard, the project starts to load and in the status bar at the bottom of the screen, there is a message 'Updating JScript Intellisence'.

After about 5 - 10 seconds, the Visual Studio process crashes and Visual Studio is closed.

I inspected the event viewer after several unsuccessful attempts and I found the following entries under the 'Application' section (not entirely sure if this is related).

Log Name: Application

Source: ASP.NET 4.0.30319.0

Event ID: 1325

An unhandled exception occurred and the process was terminated.

Application ID: DefaultDomain

Process ID: 1224

Exception: System.Argum

ASP.NET 4 and Visual Studio 2010 Web Development Beta 2 Overview

Many exciting changes for ASP.NET are coming in the .NET Framework version 4. This document gives an overview of many of the new features that are included in the Beta 2 release of the .NET Framework 4 and of Visual Studio 2010.

Visual Studio 2010 Beta 2

This is a big deal. This isn't ".NET 3.6" - there are a lot of improvements of .NET 4, and it's not just "pile on a bunch of features so you get overwhelmed." I've been working with and talking to many of the teams involved and even though it's a cheesy thing to say, this is a really customer-focused release.

ASP 4 - Whirlwind Tour around .NET 4 (and Visual Studio 2010) Beta 1

There's a lot of stuff that's new and added in .NET 4, but not in that "overwhelming-I-need-to-relearn-everything" way. More in that, "oh, this is way easier/simpler now" way. Like, moving data around with ADO.NET DataServices is easy, binding with client templates is easy, there's F# if you need it, the "dynamic" keyword if you need it, Silverlight's already installed, oh, and the parallel stuff will freak you out, but in a good way.

Short Overview of SharePoint Features in Visual Studio 2010

As you probably know, Visual Studio 2010 was announced earlier this week and it contains a lot of cool features and project templates for SharePoint developers. Below is a short overview for some of the SharePoint development related features and project templates.

About Dynamic Data in Visual Studio 2010 / .NET 4

Does anybody here have any pointers to screencasts, demos, webcasts for the latest enhancements in Dynamic Data as listed in above link? I'm repeating them here for ready reference :

  • EnableDynamicData method which enables Dynamic Data features in existing ASP.NET applications and DataSource controls
  • A new QueryExtender control, contained in the sample projects to simplify common data filtering operations. It supports a rich ASP.NET declarative query syntax that makes it easy to do things like search data for text or have filters based on ranges
  • A new Dynamic Data filter model that enables the developers to apply templates to pages just like field templates (including user defined filters)
  • New field templates of Email, URL and Enum columns
  • Support for inheritance in Entity Framework and Linq to SQL
  • Support for many to many relationships in Entity Framework
  • New Entity Templates which allow fine control over how an object is displayed and edited
  • DynamicHyperLink control for building links to tables and actions
  • Declarative support for D
