abstract away the source of the connection string using a class with a static property.

ASP.NET provides a configuration system we can use to keep our applications flexible at runtime. In this article we will examine some tips and best practices for using the configuration system for the best results.

The element of a web.config file is a place to store connection strings, server names, file paths, and other miscellaneous settings needed by an application to perform work. The items inside appSettings are items that need to be configurable depending upon the environment, for instance, any database connection strings will change as you move your application from a testing and staging server into production.

Let's abstract away the source of the connection string using a class with a static property.

Adding XAML via control property

Hi, I'm attempting to create a custom chart control that has 1 or many line series within it. My question is, is it possible to create a property of that control, that when checked in the designer, will automatically add the line series xaml within the chart series? For example, if you click on the "Add Test Series" check box, which is of type boolean, it will then add <chartingToolkit:LineSeries /> into the xaml of the control as well as to the series of the control.   <local:TestChartControl> <chartingToolkit:LineSeries /> </local:TestChartControl>     Thanks

How do you specify an empty string in XAML?

For an application I am working on, I am keeping some of the strings for the UI in a ResourceDictionary, which is defined in XAML, like so:

<ResourceDictionary xmlns="http://schemas.microsoft.com/winfx/2006/xaml/presentation"
    xmlnsTongue Tiedystem="clr-namespaceTongue Tiedystem;assembly=mscorlib"

    <systemTongue Tiedtring x:Key="String1">String 1</systemTongue Tiedtring>
    <systemTongue Tiedtring x:Key="String2">String 2</systemTongue Tied

Referencing a Dependency Property in XAML of parent UserControl where the property setter acceptable

I hope that title wasn't too confusing. I'm going to try my hardest to explain what I am trying to do.

I have a child UserControl and parent UserControl. The child UserControl has a Dependency Property that I want to set in my parent UserControl. I want to see the set operation change the child UserControl visually while I change the xaml in the parent UserControl. This setter needs to require that it's value is selected from a specific subset of a set of objects.

How do I accomplish this?

The only thing I can think to do is to specify the name of the object being selected and handle the actual selection of that object in the callback of the dependency property setter.

How to validate XAML which is coming in string variable

I have written following code to validate XAML for duplicate name of controls. But it is not good way of doing because I am using Try for validation.

Please suggest me some good way of validating XAML.

bool validateXAML(byte[] imageFileToOpen)

            if (imageFileToOpen != null)
                MemoryStream mysr = new MemoryStream(imageFileToOpen);
                StreamReader memoryReader = new StreamReader(mysr);

                string xamlString = memoryReader.ReadToEnd();   //String of Xaml code
                memoryReader.BaseStream.Seek(0, SeekOrigin.Begin);

Custom attributes in AD does not show in Property Mapping for Synchronization

Hi, I have problem with the Profile Synchronization in SharePoint 2010.

I have made a connection to our Active Directory and the Synchronization of profiles is working like a charm but when I try to map User Properties to attributes in our AD I can't see the custom attributes we made in the AD. The attributes are added to the AD after the initial connection and synchronization was made.

Any ideas what I'm doing wrong?

How to set a style's TargetType property in XAML to a Generic Class?

I've just moved to .NET 4.0 / Visual Studio 2010 and am hoping there is a new answer to this question, found on StackOverflow from over a year ago:

Is it possible to set a style's TargetType property in XAML to a Generic Class?

public class Selector<T> : Control { }

and then in xaml

<Style x:TargetType="Selector">
<Setter Property="MyProperty" Value="Green" />

I found this on the WPF Tutorial, and would like to find a similar mechanism for this situation above.

<!-- XAML 2009 -->
<ObservableCollection x:TypeArguments="Employee">
 <l:Employee FirstName="John" Name="Doe" />
 <l:Employee FirstName="Tim" Name="Smith" />
</ObservableCollection />

Check the if SSAS Roles property is used in excel connection string before returning the values

We are using Excel 2007 to connect to SSAS cubes. We have many roles for a user and all having different permission including different VISUAL TOTAL setting. We want to restrict the user so that he cannot see anything if he is not using the ROLES property in the excel connection string.

At the run time I want to know if the user who is using excel has used ROLES property or not.

Any help will be appreciated
