Issue with BCS Model deployment in VS2010

Posted By:      Posted Date: April 14, 2011    Points: 0   Category :C#

I'm seeing an issue with deploying a BCS model project created using VS2010

I updated the model and added additional properties to LOB System Instance and redeployed and the new properties added are not showing in application definition file deployed to BCS, I exported the model file from BCS directly and confirmed this, none of the new properties I added in VS2010 were there. Anyone else seen this? I also looked at the model file that was packaged into wsp and I was able to see the new properties that I added, definitely looks like some bug during deployment

I had to go into manage service applications->Business Connectivity Service and cleanup all references and redeploy bdcmodel from VS2010

vs2010 web deployment project restarts w3svc even when restartwwwservice = false

We've updated some of our projects from VS2008 to VS2010.  When these projects are deployed the w3svc is restarted on the target machine, even when restartwwwservice = false in the vdproj file.

This was a problem in 2008 until SP1 (http://forums.asp.net/p/1300097/2534736.aspx).  Does this same problem exist in VS2010?

This is a major problem for us -  we need to be able to deploy projects without restarting IIS.

I've tried creating a new web deployment package and setting the restartWWWService field to false, but this still does a restart when it's installed.

Has anyone come across this problem in VS2010?

VS2010 Schema Compare Issue

I’m using VS2010 Schema Compare to compare two databases – let’s call them ‘DB1’ and ‘DB2’. I want DB1 to have its schema altered to match DB2. I select DB2 as the source and DB1 as the target, and compare. When I hit the Write Updates button, I am getting the following error: SQL01268: .Net SqlClient Data Provider: Msg 1834, Level 16, State 1, Line 1 The file ‘c:Program FilesMicrosoft SQL Server\MSSQL10_50.SQLEXPRESS\MSSQL\DATA\DB1.mdf’ cannot be overwritten. It is being used by database ‘DB1’. Why is Schema Compare trying to create a new DB? And, more to the point, why is it trying to create a DB named the same as the Source? Can anyone give me a workarround here? Thanks in advance.

Namespace resolution issue when loading activities designed in VS2010 in rehosted WorkflowDesigner

Hi. I have activities that is made in VS2010, that are to be used in a rehosted WorkflowDesigner app. In the rehosted app I have a WorkflowDesigner, a toolbox with all the standard and my custom activities, and a property window. The problem occures when I load a composite activity that has reference to other custom activities (and that is drawn in the designer in VS2010). In the rehosted app the composite activity is shown almost as expected, except that all the referenced activities are shown in the designer as a red error message: "Activity could not be loaded because of errors in the XAML."  If I load the same activity in VS2010 it works.  If I remove the referenced activity in the rehosted app and adds it from the toolbox there, it works. If I draw the composite activity in the rehosted app from "the ground up", it works. If I compare the activity XAML that is saved in VS2010, and the activity XAML when opened, modified and saved in the rehosted app, I find differences in how namespaces are expressed: The Activity-XAML from VS2010 has namespace resolution at the top: xmlns:local="clr-namespace:WCFWorkflowPOC" The Activity-XAML from the rehosted app does not save namespace resolution at the top. If I add the activity in the rehosted app insted of in VS2010, it places namespace resolution

SharePoint 2010 Client Object Model Issue

Hi,

I want to make a windows form (VS 2010, C#.NET), where you can connect to a specific list on a SP site and display all the items in a Data Grid View.

I made the connection to x site and y list and display them to a treeview. When i add the list to the tree view, i set the property Tag to it and assign as value the name of the list. Then through the NodeMouseClick event handler i get the current list is selected in the tree view.

The next step i want to display all the items from the list in a Data Grid View (windows form).

The event handler code is here:

    private void farmExplorer_NodeMouseClick(object sender, TreeNodeMouseClickEventArgs e)
    {
      try
      {
        colNames.Items.Clear();
        if (e.Node.Tag != null)
        {
          selectedList = ((SP.List)e.Node.Tag);
          String newUrlToLoad = currentUrl.ToString() + selectedList.ParentWebUrl;

          using (SP.ClientContext ctx = new SP.ClientContext(newUrlToLoad))
          {
            SP.Web webToLoad = ctx.Web;
            SP.List myLis

Service deployment issue

Hi,

I have a WCF service that is hosted in Windows service and has been tested on the local box. Now I want to deploy it on the dev box (Windows Server 2003 SP2) and test it remotely with mutiple clients accessing it simulateously. Our dev box doesn't have Visual Studio on it and I couldn't find installutil.

The WCF Service and Windows Service were both developed on the guidelines found in this forum and on the SMDN.

1. Where do I look for installutil on the dev box? Or, can I just copy it from my local machine to somewhere on the dev box?

2. What files do I need to copy to dev box in order to install the service there?

2. Do I need to make any changes to the config before moving to dev box?

Thanks.

Opening vs2008 solution file in vs2010 - Framework targeting issue

Hey guys,

I am opening a vs2008 .sln file inside vs2010 - the conversion wizard shows up, and it goes through with no errors other than a pop up warning me that this solution needs .Net Framework 3.5 and that it is "not installed on this machine" - I chose to target it to .Net Framework 4.0 and to try to switch it later as an option.

I then bring up Properties - >Application -> Target Framework and in the dropdown, .Net Framework 3.5 is not listed - which is strange since in "Add or Remove Programs" I can see .Net Framework 3.5 is installed on my machine.

How can I get Framework 3.5 to show up in the dropdown so I can target this project to that framework?

Can't say I've ever done this, so I'm pretty sure I'm doing something wrong.

Update: I tried Method #1 here (http://blogs.msdn.com/b/robvi/archive/2004/02/17/75272.aspx) and I cannot see v3.5 - so where did it go? I'm confused why it is not in my registry but shows up in "Add or Remove Programs" list...

Thanks

multi targeting in VS2010: .NET 4 vs 2/3.5 serialization issue

Hello,
in our team, we develop a  client/server application where the data (custom poco classes) get serialized and compressed and sent via WCF between server and client.
The data objects are always put in our custom IList<T> before beeing serialized (BinaryFormatter). Tthus, the list itself is going to be serialized/deserialized.
We have actually 2 implementations of IList<T>:
a)'PocoList<T>' which implements IListSource and IList<T>. The serialization is done in this class.
b)'PocoBindingList<T>' which implements IBindingList, IList and IList<T>. The main idea is to bind this list with the controls in the client.
So all pocos and these lists are implemented in a 'common' project shared by both solutions.

As long as we were using .NET 3.5 in server and 2.0 in client, it went fine.
Yesterday, we upgraded the Server projects from .NET 3.5 to .NET 4. The client solution is still targeted to .NET 2.0. We are working in VS2010 in both solutions.

Now I get in client the following exception which occurs in the Deserialize method of the BinaryFormatter:
 var serializer = new BinaryFormatter();
 object deserializedObject = serializer.Deserialize(dataStream);

"Message:
Exception has been thrown by the target of an invocation.

Application deployment - database connection issue

Hi, I finished an intranet application using webconfig to store my connection string to an Access database which has linked tables to SQL Server 2005.

Everything works perfectly, but when I publish the application on a IIS server service, it seems like all connections fail... :(

I looked up on internet but found nothing on this. I think my webconfig file is correct :

<appSettings>
    <add key="dbconnect" value="Provider=Microsoft.ACE.OLEDB.12.0;Data Source=//192.168.xxx.x/Websites/xxx/xxx.accdb;Persist Security Info=True"/>
  </appSettings>

Any idea why it happens?

thanks alot !

VS2010 RTM bug?? Error Occurred in deployment step 'Add Solution': Value cannot be null. Parameter

I'm getting this error with Visual Studio 2010 (RTM) deploying to SharePoint 2010 (also RTM).

An "Empty SharePoint Solution" project with an OOB "Module" item added. Try to deploy and I get:

Error Occurred in deployment step 'Add Solution': Value cannot be null. Parameter name: s

The account I'm developing with has:

  • Domain Admin
  • Local Admin
  • SharePoint Farm Admin
  • Site Collection Admin
  • SQL "sysadmin"
  • SQL "DBOwner" on all config / content databases
  • UAC is disabled

The WSP package is created successfully, and if I roll it out using STSADM then it works perfectly. For some reason though Visual Studio 2010 thinks that it cannot be deployed!

Any ideas??

Client object Model Issue

Hello

I'm new to SharePoint 2010 development but I have good experience in SharePoint 2007.

I want update SharePoint list data using client object model using ECMA scripts.

I was able to update the data, but when I tried it for a user who has only read access it fails.

I know its authentication/permission issue, I tried to find out if there are ways to impersonate user but I guess there are none[using JavaScript/ECMA scripts].

ssis deployment issue - Unable to load custom dll - due to change in Sql server installation

Hello all

I had a strange issue in testing my package, after it was deployed to a Test server.

The details of the server

Sql 2005 is installed, in the D:\ drive

I have used a package, where i use a custom DLL to read values. Hence, i added that DLL to the GAC. I was in the assumption that this should complete my proceess of deploying this package.

However once i executed the package, i got an error - Could not load the Helper object.

Unable to CAST "system.object"  to namaspace.class.Helper.

I reviewed the setting on my macihine, since as part of development inorder to reference the dll i added this to the C:\Program Files\Microsoft SQL Server\90\SDK\Assemblies location so that i can reference this from BIDS. I checked that location in my test server, i was not present. This location was present in the D: drive ( i assume this was present since i installed my complete SQL Server in the D:\ ). I copied the dLL in that location and added it to GAC from that location. My package still failed with the same error.

To resolve this issue, i created the same path in the C:\ folder as C:\Program Files\Microsoft SQL Server\90\SDK\Assemblies

assemblies was newly created in C: and i added the dll to GAC from there. Now my package worked.

Deployment Issue

I am having hard time in deploying a webpart in production envirionment.I did create wsp,Got it added to Solution store and now when I deplyed it its taling a long time.

After Stsadm -o deploysolution I followed it with  stsadm -o execadmsvcjobs also

Anyidea????
