User given name to site...but how?

Another annoying problem... once more ;)

I have an Extranet under construction and I would (just) want to have the name of the site (=web) to be exactly the same name the user has given to the site. But I can't figure out how to define it in the corresponding elements.xml.

I have now set it up like:

I am working on developing a “Create Website Wizard” for SharePoint 2007 that would do the following (I am simplifying a little for the sake of this post):

The category will be a choice field (radio buttons or a dropdown)

C# - Creating web client for automating user activity on a HTTPS site

I've been wracking my brain for a couple of weeks on this.  I need to create a web client (I don't want to use the webBrowser control because I need this to be as lightweight as possible) to log in to a secure web site, and then effectively click links and fill in fields to get the data that would normally be displayed in the web browser.  I'm then going to parse the data and perform other actions with it. I have been working with HttpWebRequest and HttpWebResponse and many permutations of suggestions I have found while Googling my issue, but I can't get rid of my problem:  Sometimes when I effictively click the ultimate link that I need to click to get to my data, I get what I am looking for.  However, MOST of the timel, I get a response page that tells me my connection timed out and that I need to log in again.  I have tried messing with cookies and such, but to no avail. I know it's good form to post my code, but it is so sloppy and screwed up right now from tweaking this and trying that, that I'd rather not take the approach of fixing what's there, rather I'd like to start with solid, clean code to begin with. User Alert Management for a specific list versus entire SharePoint site?

It seems that to be able to manage User Alerts, one must have Full Access to the entire SharePoint site - and then use => Site Settings > User Alerts. Ideally, I would like to be able to grant access to users to only be able to manage alerts for a specific list. Is this possible (without having to do any programming) and, if so, how? If such access is only available at the site level, I will simply create a Permission Level that allows one to only "Manage Alerts" Thanks in advance for any assistance. Dave

How to Hide "VIew All Site Content" for non administrator user

Hi, I want to hide "view all site content" for non admin user but that user can access the form libray.actually there is a workflow using form library. I ve edit the permission level to hide view all site content but now the user can not use form library. so how can it b possible.kindly suggest.Regards- Sharad

User keeps getting deleted from MOSS site

Hello All, There is one user with contribute rights who keeps getting deleted from a team sub site that is on MOSS 2007. She has weekly reports that she works on and i was told that she doesnt really get on to the site very often except once or twice a week to update the reports. There is only one business owner of the site apart from me and who can modify permissions. So i cannot think of anybody else who has access to mess with user permissions. Has anybody had this issue before ?

New SP 2010 Installation - Can't Get User Profiles / Outlook / My Site stuff working.

Hello,   I have a new SP 2010 Installation. I did NOT set it up in Standalone mode. My users can log in and create their own My Sites. They can edit them, add content, etc. When using Outlook 2010, they add one another in the People Pane. It shows up under My Site > My colleagues that they are connected. However, in Outlook, the MySite icon in the People Pane has a red X on it. I thought that User Profile Sync Service might be the culprit after reading through various blogs. However, if I go to Central Administration > Manage Profile Service : User Profile Service Application... if I click Configure Synchronization Connections, the page comes up - "The query returns nothing." I try to click "Create New Connection"... I get an error message - Cannot navigate to the requested page while User Profile Synchronization is running. Please wait for the current Synchronization to finish.   OK - I thought that the query returned no results. I don't see the service running... can someone point me in the right direction?

How to get the list of all Site Collections that a user has access to

Hi All, Whats the best way to get the list of all Site Collections that a user has access to, under a particular Web Application? I have about 20-30 site collectiosn under the same WebApplication, and iterating through all of them for checking if the user has permissions is a bit performance expensive. Is there any other way of doing it?  Manesh K

Creating and sharing new sharepoint site to internet, limiting user access

I am a new hire into an existing business as I.T. I know the networking, I know the computers. The owner now wants me to learn Sharepoint among some other things. They currently use WSS 3.0. I have been reading up on this for the last month. I think I am ready to extend the current site to make it an Internet site so the employees can login. Some other things we would like to do I have read up on and it looks like they can be done, things such as inventory tracking in collaboration with QuickBooks and creating a website / portal for clients to have a unique login on and can see the status of their jobs in custom SharePoint lists. As far as I can tell the clients need an AD account. However, apart from that I am not sure what to do. A little background.  The company has multiple clients, and we ship things out daily to those clients.  We use Sharepoint to track the status of the jobs as they progress through the stages ultimately going to delivery. There is one common page that lists all the jobs by all clients that is updated constantly. We would like to allow multiple (different) clients/logins and have a page customized for each client.  For example, you are a client and go to www.companyname.com/sharepointsite.html.  From there you would get to a portal page with a login. Once logged in you will be presented with the Shar

Object Cache set with Portal Super User accounts. Access denied to site.

I have the same issue on multiple farms. In this example i'll outline this problem for a three tier farm. SharePoint web server SharePoint Application server (hosts central admin) Sql server After installation and configuration i have created two web applications (claims based auth with NTLM). https://portal.contoso.com https://mysite.contoso.com The client connects on the URLs to the web server (1st tier). All is working correctly and they can access the portal and their mysite. The log file keeps reporting that i need to configure the user accounts for the Object Chache. So, i looked up the required steps and executed these conform mcrosoft guidelines (http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ff758656.aspx) All the steps run seccesfully. But when i connect to the URL i now get an access denied (even with the administrator who is site collection administrator) In the log file i get the following to lines when i connect to the site. Unknown SPRequest error occurred. More information: 0x80070002 Unknown SPRequest error occurred. More information: 0x80070005 I have exact the same issue on two other farms. Marc

Taxonomy term store additions via site setting are not visible to user in RC1

Is see that its possible to define Taxonomy term store via SharePoint main central  admin page. But when I try to add term store entries via a new site in the same collection ....  site setting -> Site Administration -> Term store management any new entries are not visible. That is to say when a user starts to enter a tag the helper dialog does not show any values added via the site but all values add via the central admin do appear. this seems like a bug and the is in RC1 or am I doing something wrong

Internet facing SharePoint site - user shouldn't have to log in to change the langague

Hello, I am using SharePoint 2010 for Internet sites.  Anonymous access has been enabled.  Language packs have been installed so that users can switch to different languages as required.  However, the only way for a different language to be selected other than the default is for the user to log into the site and then the option would be displayed.....This is an internet facing site with anonymous access therefore users shouldn't have to log in to change the language.  Can someone guide/advise on switching the lanuguage of the site without loggin in. User cannot access Sharepoint site

I have a Windows Server 2008 64bit domain running Sharepoint 2010 and one user, and only one user, cannot access the default website.  I've added them to the users for the site and even given her full permissions.  She still cannot access it.  It comes up with Error: Access Denied.  You are currently logged in as and it gives the user name and an option to log in as a different user.David Kellett

I've been trying to troubleshoot our User Profile Sync and have noticed the profile pages weren't getting updated with everything.  Most content was but things like memberships and the content tabs weren't.  I also saw this error in ULS: ProfSynch: Exception attempting to enumerate site 25a72070-4249-4698-ae99-c2a45d25b08e for ContentDB 23a6e3ef-6d56-4bde-825e-95c6924e2f91: Microsoft.Office.Server.UserProfiles.ProfileSynchronizationInternalException: ProfSynch: The site with ID 25a72070-4249-4698-ae99-c2a45d25b08e cannot be synchronized due to an unprovisioned root web.      at Microsoft.Office.Server.UserProfiles.SiteSynchronizerCollection.GetSynchInfoForSite(SqlDataReader dr, SynchInfo info)      at Microsoft.Office.Server.UserProfiles.SiteSynchronizerCollection.<get_Elements>d__0.MoveNext() I checked in the MySite database under the webs table and noticed all the My Content sites for all of our users had the flag column with the number 1315 in them - (meaning unprovisioned as the error above states).  Cross checking with the User Sync Profile database under the SiteSynch table I noticed all of the sites have NULL for the value under both the LastSynch and ChangeToken columns (The User Profile Service Application - User Profile to SharePoint Full Synchronization  timer job takes care of populating that).&

Permission to use User Solution in Site Collection

Hello, is it possible to deploy a user solution in a site collection, and set permissions which users or groups can use the solution in the site collections or subsites in the site collection ?    

User keeps losing Session on Anonymous site?


This code was working before, but something has changed and I don't know what.  I have an anonymous registration page.  On it, I have a CAPTCHA image, with a URL pointing to an ASPX page that is generating the image.  On the Registration page I am generating a 6 digit code to be displayed in the CAPTCHA image, then saving it to a Session variable.  On the CAPTCHA ASPX page, I am grabbing that Session variable and creating the image.  However, the Session is resetting when the CAPTCHA ASPX page is called.  If I debug it, it has a different ID and the variable is gone.

Why is this happening and how can I fix it?  I have Sessions enabled in SharePoint 2007.

My Site to be mandatory when the user visits his intranet portal in SharePoint 2010


I have always had this in my mind,

its like i am creating an Intranet portal so i want my users who has access to intranet portal, when logs on to the site should prompt the user to mandatory complete his profile and like every 6 months should alert the user to update his profile.

this should be tricky,
