Office Web Apps 2010 for SharePoint Foundation will not View Word or PowerPoint File

Posted By:      Posted Date: April 14, 2011    Points: 0   Category :C#

I have installed a SharePoint Foundation 2010 in a Farm environment and installed Office Web Apps 2010. I have not been able to view Word documents or PowerPoint documents inside of the web browser. I can view Excel documents okay and I can edit a Word doc in the browser.

Does anyone have any suggestions as to what may be the problem?

Office Services: Merging Word Documents on the Server Side with SharePoint 2010

Office 2010 and SharePoint 2010 include a new set of components called Application Services. These put a rich set of tools in a developer's bag for Office automation. We'll show you how to use Office OpenXML, Word Automation Services and SharePoint to build a simple application that merges separate status reports into a single document.

Assembling Documents on SharePoint 2010 Sites by Merging Content from Excel, PowerPoint, and Word

This article describes a rich document assembly solution that takes Word 2010 documents, Excel 2010 documents, and PowerPoint 2010 documents and merges them together to form a final report in Word. It does all of this from a SharePoint 2010 Web Part.

Sharepoint Foundation 2010 problems with Office 2007 ActiveX controls

I have a SPF server that I recently upgraded from WSS 3 using the database attach method. The new server configuration is SQL 2008 R2 with SPF 2010 on Windows 2008 64bit SP2. Mostly things are working fairly well, though there have been a few fires to put out. The latest inflamation seems to be centered around ActiveX controls for Office 2007. I'm getting the following message whenever I try to create a new document using the New button: " 'New Document' requires a Microsoft SharePoint Foundation-compatible application and web browser. To add a document to this document library, click the 'Upload Document' button." On the client side, the browser is IE8 on Windows 7 (Windows is 64bit, though the browser is in 32 bit mode.) using Office 2007. I've also had the same problem with systems running XP. In terms of troubleshooting, other activeX related features seem to be working fine. I can open datasheet views, if I click on a document, it will open in the appropriate client. However, I have some libraries where the Word document template opens the document information panel and those will give thhe following message on open: "One or more ActiveX controls could not be displayed because either: 1)Your current security settings prohibit running ActiveX controls on thi page , or 2) You have blocked a publisher of one of the contols. As a result the page mi

Do you need to license Office Web Apps seperate from sharepoint server 2010 enterprise license?

Hi All, I been reading this article http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ff431687.aspx#bkmk_ins_exis_farm  and have come to the conculsion that if you want word viewing services and power point services you need to license and download office web apps separate from the SharePoint Licensing/download. Can anyone confirm this that may know more about the subject? I thought those services would come along with enterprise but from what I’m reading I guess not.   Regards, Jeff

Long delay opening Word documents from SharePoint 2007 with Office 2010

The first time a document is opened it's fine, opens in just a few seconds.

Subsequently, there is a long delay (about 20 seconds) in the "Contacting server for information..." step.

This happens to all users and all documents, each one will open fast the first time then slowly the second and subsequent times (until, we think, the app pool is recycled - there is no schedules iisreset/reboot).

This does not happen when using Office 2007.

IE6 and 7 exhibit the same behaviour.

Sharepoint library Explorer view - Office 2010 conflict?

Recently upgraded from Office 2007 to 2010.  Some days after install started to receive a message 'you need to activate this product' every time I opened an Office application.  My IT guys did the ncessary to activate Office 2010, but since then my site selection (tab) button on any Sharepoint page will not open the drop-down menu and I cannot change the view of any document library to 'Explorer View'.

I've been looking in forums and other sources and can see this is a known issue with IE8, but when it happened to me, I was using IE7.  The only trigger I can see is the activation of Office 2010

Anyone had similar experience and anyone aware of a fix?

Explorer View within Sharepoint 2007/IE7 stops working when activating an Office 2010 install.

Has anyone else experience this issue:

Office 2010 is installed on a machine with IE7 running on it.

Explorer view within Sharepoint 2007 and IE7 works fine

Office 2010 requires a product key change from a temporary key from the initial install to a permenant key.

The permenant key is installed and suddenly Explorer view within Shrepoint stops working?

Office 2010 required before upgrading or installing SharePoint Foundation 2010??

Is it required now to upgrade to SharePoint 2010 Foundation etc. first before using Office 2010 with SharePoint??

Or can Office 2010 work in even a limited manner with WSS 3.0??

Thank you, Tom

SharePoint 2010, Word Office Web App, embedded hyperlink using docidredir.aspx returns "blocked://"

I have word documents stored in a SP2010 document library with embedded links to other documents stored in other document libraries. The links are formatted as :

http://mysite/mysubsite/_layouts/docidredir.aspx?id=id01

I'm using the Document ID Service and Web Apps.

When I use the word web app to view the document and then click the link to open the linked document in word web app, the server returns a new window with the address of "blocked:../../_layouts/DocIdRedir.aspx?ID=ID_01" and a 'Webpage cannot be displayed" message.

Using MS Office Word application, the link opens the linked document correct. If I copy and paste the link into an IE address bar the file open correctly. Only when opening from the word web app do I experience the "blocked://" error.

Does anyone have any ideas what could be causing this behaviour?  Thanks in advance!

Sharepoint Foundation 2010 - How to control which fields are shown on new/edit/view forms for Extern

I have an external list which contains a DateTime field.  For the display I have added an additional string field to the BDC Entity , so i can display the date in whatever format is required.  But i still need the actual date field so a Date picker is rendered on the edit form.  How can I display the string field on the generated Display Form and the date field on the Edit Form.

I have tried adding the following to the field declaration (in the List schema) for the string field so that it's only shown on view forms, but that didn't work.

  • ShowInDisplayForm="TRUE" ShowInEditForm="FALSE" ShowInNewForm="FALSE" ShowInViewForms="TRUE"

Am i missing something, or is this yet another 'feature' of external lists which looks like it should work but doesn't?

I know i could create custom iew and Edit Forms manually t

Word 2010 Crashes When Trying to Open/Download File From SharePoint 2010 Using IE8

Hi!

I'm trying to find a solution to an issue I'm having with Word 2010/SharePoint 2010/ and IE 8 working (or rather not working) together.

I'm using Windows XP, and I have recently upgraded from Office 2007 to Office Pro 2010, in doing so, I can no longer open Word 2010 .doc or .docx files via our SharePoint site using IE8.  I can however, open these files without a problem using Chrome and Safari.  I would prefer to use IE8, as it provides better functionality in other areas for SP.

I have tried the following:

  • Unistall/Re-install of SharePoint Designer, IE8 and Office Pro 2010.
  • Ran the repair and config on Office 2010
  • Reset the IE security settings.
  • Unchecked the "automatically detect settings" box under the LAN connections.
  • Added our SP site to Trusted Sites
  • Disabled each view under Protected View in Word Options Trust Center.
  • Checked the Save settings under Word Options Save.

 - all steps either together or separate to no avail!

For a bit more detail - here's the error I'm receiving:
"Microsoft Word has encounted a problem and needs to close.  We are sorry for the inconvenience."

Sharepoint Foundation 2010 - How to search non MS office documents

Hi,

I came across the following article

http://www.aisn.net/blog/index.php/2010/10/21/solving-the-sharepoint-foundation-2010-search-dilemma/#comments

The article states the following

"I discovered that SharePoint Foundation does not allow iFilters. Therefore, pdfs cannot be scanned and cannot be included in Search. This is going to be a major bummer for some people.
Fortunately, solutions involving SharePoint Server 2010 and SharePoint Search do exist. As you may know, both these products are not free, and there are some constraints about where and how Search can be installed.
After quite a bit of research on the “Search” dilemma, I’ve been successful in discovering the solution to the problem for SharePoint Foundation 2010 clients. It cannot be found in the SharePoint 2010 manual and it was by no means easy."

The solution is NOT provided so I don't even know if this is even real...

Anyway my question is, does anybody knows a way to Search non office documents with Sharepoint Foundation 2010 (like pdf's, jpeg, etc.)?

Thank you!
