Issues after moving SP 2010 server to new domain

Posted By:      Posted Date: April 14, 2011    Points: 0   Category :C#

We moved our SP 2010 Foundation server from one domain to another. We ran through all of the commands mentioned in KB934838 here and all of the sites seemed to work without issue, however there are some areas throughout the Central Admin page we now can no longer access. One of the main areas is Configure service accounts. When navigating to this page, we get the following error:

Issues with updating Lists with Manager Names and User Profile Imports in SharePoint 2010 Server

I am having a curious problem with SharePoint 2010 Server. I have imported all the user profiles of our organization into SharePoint User Profile Service Application from our Active Directory. When the Manager name imports it comes in as domain/login. The organizational browser seems to work for MOST people, but not all. I believe this is contributing to my second problem, which is, I have setup a very simple workflow in SharePoint Designer that simply looks up the persons Manager, then places that information into a field called "Approval 1". After that it looks at Approval 1 and get the Manager name and populated "Approval 2" with that information, and so on. I have used an Impersonation Step as the Farm Administrator in the workflow and I have done it without the impersonation step. Both results in the same problem. When I enter my name into the list and run the workflow it runs beautifully give every manager up the chain to the top. However, if I put any other person's name in there it gives me the error "Workflow failed to get user profile for user: ____". I went to my supervisor's office and asked him to run the workflow. Using his login he had the exact same result--if my name was in there it worked great, otherwise, it gave an error. Any help with this strange error would be greatly appreciated.  Thanks

Sharepoint 2010 Web Server/Domain Controller ratio

Is this number the same 3:1 as it was in with Sharepoint 2007?

Sharepoint Server 2010 issues

Hi, I am trying to implement these recommendations on a Sharepoint 2010 farm. I cannot get it to work. I have created a test site manually and got that to work however.

Has anyone else been able to get this working with Sharepoint 2010?

The only deviation from the published instructions is that I have tried to edit the system.webserver.httperrors section in case this has some bearing but it doesnt seem to have made any difference. I just keep getting 404 errors.

Moving SharePoint Database to non trusted domain SQL server

We have SharePoint and SQL server in a extranet domain. We would like move the SQL server databases for SharePoint to our corporate SQL server (on the corporate domain).

The Corporate domain does not trust the extranet domain, and thus the web farm account cannnot be specified on the corportare SQL instance. If it possible to migrate the databases to a non tusted domain?

I've seen the script to create a new Config database using SQL authentication

psconfig -cmd configdb -create -server <SQL server name> -database <database name> -dbuser <SQL account> -dbpassword <SQL password> -user <AD user account> -password <AD user password>

Can I edit the config of SharePoint to point to the new SQL server, or do I need to create the entire sharepoint enviromnent again and attach the content databases?

I also have a SSP database that's heavily customised for searcvhing and the BDC. Will this need recreating again or can I move the BDC database  to the new server and attach?

SharePoint 2010 Foundation - Standalone - SQL Server Express 2008 R2 - Moving databases to another d

Setting up a new install who will be using SharePoint Foundation 2010 in Standalone mode. They do not have SQL SERVER 2008 so need to utilize the Standalone option and the latest version of SQL Server 2008 Express R2. They are just getting started with SharePoint and it is unknown how much the technology will be embraced to afford to purchase SQL Server at this point. I wanted to get that explanation out of the way before everyone tells me the best practice of installing in Farm mode only! I realize the best practice but sometimes we have to roll with the punches because getting a client to begin using SharePoint on their current budget is better than never getting the chance to use it at all.

So SharePoint Foundation 2010 is installed with the default SQL Server 2008 R2 Express instance. Is there a procedure for moving the databases to a new drive? What is the default instance name that is created? I'm having a hard time locating that information in the documentation. I've done this before with WSS 3.0 without issue but wondered if there were any documents on moving the newest databases and what the default instance name is. Thank you in advance.

MOSS 2010 Web Front End Server (off the domain) and SQL Authentication

Hi Guys,

I am trying to use SQL authentication on my moss portal server (to be my web front end) and I am unable to connect.

When I run:

PSConfig -cmd -configdb
-server servername\sqlinstance
-database SharePoint_Config
-admincontentdatabase SharePoint_AdminContent database name
-user domain\SPExternalAdmin
-password password
-dbuser SPExternalUser
-dbpassword password

it tells me that the username is invalid.  the account must be a valid domain account.

am I able to use a domain account for this (keep in mind the moss server is not on the domain)

I can run the scrip differently (see below)

PSConfig -cmd -configdb
-server servername\sqlinstance
-database SharePoint_Config
-admincontentdatabase SharePoint_AdminContent database name
-user local admin
-password password
-dbuser SPExternalUser

Moving SP 2010 Foundation from one domain to another

Can someone point me to the best procedure for migrating a SP 2010 Foundation instance from one domain to another. here is the process I am thinking should work:

Backup DB, IIS, and SP farm/site collections

Remove SP 2010

Remove member server from domain (holding the SP install)

Add member server to new domain

Now i am not sure here:

Do i have to migrate domain users used for SP install to new domain, using something like ADMT?

Restore DB, IIS, and SP

moving Team Foundation Server 2010 site to SharePoint 2010 farm.....

What is the best way to move a Team Foundation Server site over to our SharePoint 2010 farm? Can someone please point me to some documentation on how? Thanks,

Moving sharepoint 2010 to a new domain

I have a sharepoint 2010 multi server environment (2 wfe, 1 app server, 1 DB, 1 FAST server) that I need to move to another AD domain.

The OldDomain is our Internal network, while the NewDomain is for external access. The NewDomain does trust the OldDomain.

I currently have all the services and web app pools running as accounts in OldDomain and would like them to stay that way. There is a one-way trust between the domains (NewDomain trusts OldDomain)

The only users currently setup are in OldDomain and should also remain, but we will be adding users from NewDomain.

  • Can I simply change the domain member ship of the machines and expect it to work?
  • Should I remove each server from the farm one by one then change the domain and re-add it to the farm?
  • Can/should SharePoint servers be in different domains, IE if I move the web front ends to allow people form the Newdomain to access the sites, can/should I leave the app and fast servers in the old domain?

The main thing that I cannot do is build a new farm and migrate sites, I don't have the time or the hardware.

Thank you

FAST Search Server 2010 Config Error - ValidationException 1034: Username or domain is incorrect.

I've seen other related threads and I've tried all the tricks in getting through the post-setup configuration, but I can't get by the "ValidationException 1034: Username or domain is incorrect." error message taken from the FAST psconfig log. I've tried both the wizard and the psconfig, but get the same results. I'm attempting to deploy the single server (stand-alone) on a single x64 box, under ws2008 SP2, w/SP2010, the server is also the domain controller, and i've been passing the FQDN to the post-setup script as described in the FAST deployment document (see log below):

Moving SQL 2005 Server from old domain to new domain

What is the most safe way to lift SQL server 2005 SP2 from one domain to another ( no IP or name changes, same box ). SQL agent ja MS SQL services running on Local system account and login to management is with Windows AD credentials.

SharePoint 2010 with Project Server 2010 Issues

Hi all,

i have a clean installation of SharePoint 2010 and Project Server 2010 in a test enviroment with two servers (APP+DB).

After completing the installation of SharePoint and Project, I have installed the October 26 Cumulative update both for SharePoint and Project.

The upgrade was finished successfully without errors but in the Healt Analyzer there are two issues under the configuration category:

Accessing SharePoint 2010 Data with Server-Side APIs

Accessing SharePoint data in server-side solutions is one of the most common tasks that you will perform as a SharePoint developer. SharePoint 2010 provides powerful server-side APIs that enable you to retrieve, add, edit, and delete SharePoint data programmatically. SharePoint 2010 also includes the new LINQ to SharePoint technology that enables you to work with SharePoint data efficiently and easily.

Office Services: Merging Word Documents on the Server Side with SharePoint 2010

Office 2010 and SharePoint 2010 include a new set of components called Application Services. These put a rich set of tools in a developer's bag for Office automation. We'll show you how to use Office OpenXML, Word Automation Services and SharePoint to build a simple application that merges separate status reports into a single document.
