User Profile Syncronization in SP 2010 .. just reads starting.

Posted By:      Posted Date: April 14, 2011    Points: 0   Category :C#

At some point i was in the configuration area for user profile synchronization connections, but for the life of me can't find it now.

I did change the service account for the service and attempted to start it, but now it just reads Starting and I can no longer figure out how I even got into the page that would allow me to add a new connections.   I've rebooted - no luck. I see nothing in the event viewer or timer jobs.

Is there a way to undo/remove/delete an active directory user profile syncronization? [SP 2010]

I successfully managed to synchronize the active directory with Sharepoint 2010.  Unfortunately, the farm I was on has different FQDN /Netbios domain names.  So all ~1000 user profiles are now imported with the wrong domain, and the subsequent errors one would expect.

Is there a way to get back to a blank slate?  technet has an article on "resetting" profile synchronization (http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ff681014.aspx), but that requires being able to verify the GUID of the user profile synchronization database, which I am also unaware of how to do.

Please help, and thank you in advance.

User Profile Application Failing in SharePoint 2010 (14.0.4514.1004)

I keep getting the following error "This User Profile Application's connection is currently not available. The Application Pool or User Profile Service may not have been started. Please contact your administrator.". As sugested by Travis at http://blogs.pointbridge.com/Blogs/nielsen_travis/pages/default.aspx I tried commenting the two security nodes, removing its' allowInsecureTransport attributes, and setting then False. As Lionel wrote in his comment I tried also modifying "Central Administration / Application Management / Configure service application associations / Application Proxy Group" of my share point web application. My application pool for User Profile Service Application seems working and User Profile Service status is Started. One thing I remember about my issue, first I tried creating User Profile Service Application I got some error message and tried creating User Profile Service Application again. It gave me some other exception and than I navigated somehow to the "Manage service applications" page and there the desired User Profile Service Application was magically on the list with status Started. I thought - that's great! But when I clicked the User Profile Service Application link I got the nasty red error I mentioned at the beginning. Any ideas?Regards,Dawid Ireno

Sharepoint 2010: User Profile Sync with Person attributes

Sorry for opening another post following this, but I think this case is quite concrete: http://social.msdn.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/sharepoint2010general/thread/2fa02093-630e-4131-bdc7-0b979067f601 When trying to configure in Sharepoint 2010 - User Profile Application, an additional sync source from BDC (as at least, one LDAP Profile is required). The first approach was to create a straightforward SQL Connection with SP Designer, and it seemed everything ok, except I'm not able to setup synchronization of "Manager" property, which is great in order to see Silverlight Organization Explorer Webpart. As I have read in the previous post, someone pointed to setup a BDC with Visual Studio 2010, so one attribute is of type: Microsoft.SharePoint.SPUser. It seamed very logical, and so I tried to do such task. Once I have deployed correctly a BDC with this strong type (SPUser), the result is that I'm still unable to see any attribute when trying to synchronize Manager attribute. In Sharepoint 2007 this was possible, but not able in SP 2010. Any idea of how to do it? Just a bug? I have one very dirty workaround: setup a Timer job to run after Sync, so I can setup this field by code. But, for doing this, I would not need to run Sync process with BDC anymore.    Evotec Consulting

User Profile Syncronization - Stuck in Progress

Hi all, I have been working to get some of the MySite properties exported to Active Directory (such as thumbnailphoto). Today, I created a new domain service account (sa-sharepointadds) and granted it the nesecarry permissions on the domain. In SP, I configured the User Profile Sync to connect to the domain and do a full sync (import only at this time) which completed correctly. I then enabled exporting a couple of profile properties and started another sync. I saw in the Application Event Log that an error occured, so I used the FIM Sync Service Manager application to view the steps and the errors. I saw that the sync was running with my sa-sharepoint service account which is the Farm account and not the sync account sa-sharepointadds, and that a permission error occured because this account has no rights to modify Active Directory. I went into the User Profile Sync Connection and verified the correct account was in use and it was. I then went to Security > Configure Service Accounts and saw that I needed to change the service account for the User Sync service. I changed it to the sa-sharepointadds account. I went back to User Profile Sync, however my connection had disappeared. I tried to create a new connection and got the error that a sync is already in progress and that I cannot make changes until it finishes. I knew that nothing was currently running, so I did an iis

Issues with updating Lists with Manager Names and User Profile Imports in SharePoint 2010 Server

I am having a curious problem with SharePoint 2010 Server. I have imported all the user profiles of our organization into SharePoint User Profile Service Application from our Active Directory. When the Manager name imports it comes in as domain/login. The organizational browser seems to work for MOST people, but not all. I believe this is contributing to my second problem, which is, I have setup a very simple workflow in SharePoint Designer that simply looks up the persons Manager, then places that information into a field called "Approval 1". After that it looks at Approval 1 and get the Manager name and populated "Approval 2" with that information, and so on. I have used an Impersonation Step as the Farm Administrator in the workflow and I have done it without the impersonation step. Both results in the same problem. When I enter my name into the list and run the workflow it runs beautifully give every manager up the chain to the top. However, if I put any other person's name in there it gives me the error "Workflow failed to get user profile for user: ____". I went to my supervisor's office and asked him to run the workflow. Using his login he had the exact same result--if my name was in there it worked great, otherwise, it gave an error. Any help with this strange error would be greatly appreciated.  Thanks

User Profile Sync not starting anymore

Hi! http://www.harbar.net/articles/sp2010ups.aspx Followed this guide to enable User Profile syncronization excluded the creation of the two Web applications and User Profile Service. I had these already setup by default when I installed SharePoint Server 2010. The first time I started Syncronization service it did succesfully started the Forefront services in windows and the sync service, but when I began configuring import connection settings I got connection to AD and saw all the users in AD groups, but never got it done because a error that said something about "??? WA"...don't remember anymore. I figured out that it was just because that I didn't do "IIS reset" nor the  system restart. So I did IIS reset and also restarted the system just incase. When system got back up ForeFront Manager Service was down, cause everyone told that you shouldn't mess around Service.msc so I figured that I could just stop sync service and start it again. And here I am figuring out why nothing will come back on. Both ForeFronts are in disabled state and sync service stopped. When I try to start sync service it tries a while, "ForeFront sync service" -startup change to automatic but returns to disabled state and in SharePoint sync service comes back to stopped state. Yes SharePoint farm account is in local admin group! Any suggestion

User profile synchronization issue in SharePoint 2010 Enterprise

User profile is not getting sync.

We see warning events with following details each day before the schedule task starts.

"The credentials used for the account DC\soft.ac expired on 3/15/2008 1:20:42 AM, and need to be updated. If they are not updated, the system may stop working. The account is used by the following:

Farm Account

But the account is not expired.

Can anyone help?

Sharepoint 2010 User Profile Synchronization Stuck On "Synchronizing"

I have configured my User Profile Synchronization. I have configured the synchronization connections, and started the synchronization service. My issue is when I "Start Profile Synchronization", the Profile Synchronization Status is stuck on "Synchronizing". There is no job listed in running jobs, and the job keeps running (I let it run for a daya and a half before I killed it). Nothing in logs or Event Viewer (That I could find). Any suggestions as to why this job never succeds or fails?

Starting User Profile Synchronization Service Fails

Hi All,

While performing a database attach upgrade from SharePoint Server 2007 to 2010 with this article http://technet.microsoft.com/nl-nl/library/cc263299(en-us).aspx as my guide, I'm stuck at the 'Start the User Profile Synchronisation Service' section. When I use Central Administration to start the service, after a few minutes being on the status 'Starting' it reverts back to 'Stopped'.

When reviewing the logs I find the following error message:

UserProfileApplication.SynchronizeMIIS: Failed to configure ILM, will attempt during next rerun. Exception: System.Data.SqlClient.SqlException: Specified collection 'StringSchemaCollection' cannot be dropped because it is used by object '<DOMAIN>\<FARM ACCOUNT>.GetObjectCurrent'.

The account used is already added to the local administrators group.

One solution I did find is in the following thread: http://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/sharepoint2010setup/thread/58a404c0-af55-476c-84ad-8720de0a3292. The problem I have with this solution is that I should manually modify the user profile database, setting the correct default schem

Need Clarifications on SharePoint 2010 User Profile properties and Sync database security

Need few clarifications on SharePoint 2010 user profile sync. I’ve answered some of them but need confirmation/clarity on this front.

  1. Is there option to disable ‘email address’ import from AD?
Yes. Can disable that property mapping.
  2. Possible to send mails (user alerts) from SharePoint without the user profile property ‘email address’ mapped?
Yes. User alert mails from SharePoint will work without ‘email address’ mapped in user profile DB.
  3. In case email address too is imported into SharePoint, can we bulk export them from SharePoint? If Yes, how to security harden that database?
Not Sure. I believe Farm admin account/sync account has access to do this profile DB.

Thanks in advance for your advice.<

Sharepoint 2010 RTM User Profile Synchronization

I've successfully installed Sharepoint 2010 with the front end web application on one server (Windows Server 2008 R2) and all databases on another server (also Windows Server 2008 R2) running SQL Server 2008 R2. I am now trying to configure my synchronization for the User Profile Application. In my network our domain controller is running on Windows Server 2003.

The user profile service application is administered by my spadmin account that has full control, this account also has replicate changes permisson on the domain controller and is also a member of the Pre-Windows 2000 group. All services are running fine, its just that when I come to creating the new synchronization connection using the same connection information that I used in my beta installation successfully, I press Populate Containers and it very quickly pops up with the top-level container, but doesnt allow me to expand the container and after a few minutes I get a javascript error, I have also tried pressing F12 and running IE in IE7 mode, this makes no difference.

Any suggestions? As this is driving me mad.

User Profile Synchronization Service stuck on starting

I found Ali Mazaheri's blog post on configuring User Profile Service Application and am stuck on step 4 because the Forefront Identity Management Synchronisation and Forefront Identity Manager Service are not started. The later is set to disabled. When I try and set them both to automatic and start them I get these errors in the event log.
Haven't got a clue...this is a SharePoint 2010 Enterprise Server Beta 2 build with SQL 2008 SP1 + CU3 and AD Domain Controller on a single virtual machine.
I've also checked out the MSDN article but no mention of issues here.

can't start User Profile syncronization Service or FIM services

Using 2k8 R2, SQL 2k8 SP1 CU5 and Sharepoint 2010 RC. Standalone install with DC on separate server

Install to vanilla AD - can't do anything until I can get this service running and I can't run it because when I try to start it and I get a screen that lists the Service app - fine - but the service account is greyed out and listing NTAuthority\NetworkService - it demands a password but of course I can't priovide one. Can't select a different Service account because it's all greyed out - even if I create a new managed account and add that as an Admin to the Service Application

FIM services both won't start either -

Out of box install and nothing works - hardly bodes well

Anyway - seen lots of posts on problems with starting this service - anyone found a solution?

SharePoint 2010 User Profile Synchronization Service

I have set up SharePoint 2010 as per MS instructions and am now trying to get the User Profile Synchronization Service to start.

I have found heaps of information regarding the Service remaining in a Starting state, then reverting back to Stopped and not logging any useful information.

Other threads say:

Forefront Identity Manager errors when starting the User Profile Synchronization Service Application

I have seen several people who are having trouble getting the User Profile Synchronization Service to start.  None of those threads have the set of errors that I am seeing.  I have all the prerequisites installed and I am using the farm administrator account which has admin rights both on the SP server and the SQL box.  This is a split back-to-back extranet topology and there is a one way trust between the extranet domain and the internal domain.  The administrator account is an internal domain account.  I receive the following two Forefront errors every five seconds in the event log after starting the User Profile Synchronization Service Application:

Sharepoint 2010 Manage User Profile Search

We have about 650 user profiles loaded and all seem to be pulling up correct with the sharepoint sites.  The profiles are available to the end user.  However when I try to search for any profiles in Central Administration -> Manage User Profiles, it only retrieves a few back (~10).   There are no profiles in the "Missing from import" section either.  I have tried all different types of criteria (domain\accountname, accountname, domain...)

Any help as to why I cannot pull up the profiles would be greatly appreciated!!

By the way..  the page displays that we have 650 user profiles as well.  "Total Number of Profiles: 650"
