Thanks and Regards,

Document Compare feature in Sharepoint Document Management

We are in the design stage of implementing a Document Management system in Sharepoint.  My client wants to compare versions of documents.  Can anyone tell me if this feature in Sharepoint is using the Doc Compare function of Word or is there a more robust feature in sharepoint?  My client is looking for something more robust than what is offered by MS Word.

SharePoint Feature / Solution - Unassociate/Associate existing document libraries to a DLL

Previously we have a document library feature that contains a DLL.

Over time we have created document libraries using this feature, so document libraries created were associated to the DLL.

Now we need to change the solution to NOT include the DLL, but we found out that even though we retract / redeployed the solution without the DLL, those document libraries that were created is still calling/associated with the DLL.

Is there a way to unassociate/associate back the document library to the DLL?

Thank you for any help! :)

Document ID feature not working

Hello,

I want to try out the Document ID feature.
I enabled the "Document ID" feature in the Site Collection features list.

That gave me a new setting "Document ID settings" in the "Site Collection Administration" list.
I checked "assign document ids", I specified a prefix, and checked the "reset all document ids..."

I did this last friday, and today there is still no sign of document ids in my document library.
When I check existing documents, or upload new documents, there is no field "document id" when I check the properties.
This column is also missing when I modify or create a new view.

Any ideas what I need to check to get this working ?
I have beta 2 installed (14.0.4536.1000).
Maybe it is a know issue with this version ?

Word's master document feature in SP?

I have a sharepoint library that contains an employee policy manual (a document for each policy).  I have been asked for a way to print them all out at once.  Aside from the view in Explorer, selecting and printing all, I thought I'd try the master document feature that Word has.  I tried an experiment with it on a dev server with just two subdocuments.  I could edit either the subdocuments or the master and everything updated fine.

However, when I try this on my production server, I encounter saving issues, and file locking issues, making it impossible to create the master document.

While searching for a solution, I read in the MS knowledge base that this feature is not compatible with SP server.  However, since I got it to work on one server I question that.

Has anyone tried creating a master document on SP with any luck?

There are no mistakes; every result tells you something of value about what you're are trying to accomplish.

Working with SharePoint document libraries

Document libraries are collections of files that you can share with team members on a Web based on Microsoft Windows SharePoint Services. For example, you can create a library of common documents for a project, and team members can use their Web browsers to find the files, read them, and make comments. Users with Microsoft Office 2003 can check out and edit the files as if they resided on a local or network drive.

By default, your team Web site comes with a built-in document library named Shared Documents, which is listed on the Quick Launch bar as well as on the Documents and Lists page.

jQuery $(document).ready() and ASP.NET Ajax asynchronous postback

Many call it the ASP.NET jQuery postback problem, but using the technique below should make it no problem anymore. $(document).ready() isn't called after an asynchronous postback. What this means? You lose the functionality that should be executed within $(document).ready() after an UpdatePanel rendered its contents after an asynchronous postback.

SharePoint Document Workspaces for Developers

Office 2003 is being released this month, and a cast of supporting applications is already available. One of these is Windows SharePoint Services 2.0, the free team add-on for Windows Server 2003. If you're not familiar with SharePoint Services basics, take a look at What Developers Need to Know About Windows SharePoint Services. In this article, I'm going to drill into one key place where SharePoint and Office 2003 overlap: document workspaces

Upload a File to a SharePoint Document Library - Part I

The following helper class demonstrates a few techniques that allow documents to be uploaded to a SharePoint document library programmatically without using the API or a custom web service. You don't need to specify a document library name, and it will create any folders specified in the URL as required. File meta data will be updated if any properties are passed.

SharePoint document migration challenges when migrating files and folders

There are several challenges when migrating documents to Microsoft SharePoint. While these challenges can be overcome, they are a real pain if the migration source, content and file systems are not SharePoint friendly.
