Sharepoint Explorer View - Different Folder Icons Question

Posted By:      Posted Date: April 14, 2011    Points: 0   Category :C#

I have multiple XP pro clients accessing my sharepoint server and utilizing Explorer View on Document Librarys to access and modify documents and folders.  I have 2 users whose folders show up differently than the others and have some strange capability limitations that the rest of my user base does not experience.  I tried searching around for a solution or at least an explanation to what is happening on these 2 machines.  The  folder icon is different on these two machines and shows 2 small documents over teh folder in the icon.  What does this mean?  How do i fix it so that this machine has the same folders and capabilities as everyone else?  Thank you in advance to any who can shed light on this subject.  I tried to post a screen shot, but this forum does not allow pictures.

Can't view the SharePoint Site. Explorer won't take domain account

Hi, I'm having issues viewing the SharePoint 2010 Site that I have deployed from any workstation. It seems that my permissions settings have broken - even though I haven't touched them. Whenever http://start/ is visited (the Intranet top site) it asks for credentials. They should have been taken from the User that was logged onto the machine. E.g. NATWIDE\UserA. After entering the credentials, it doesn't accept them, and asks for them again. And again. And then blank page. I'm not receiving the SharePoint "restricted access" page... HOWEVER, when I log into the website via Mozilla Firefox - it appears that the credentials are fine, and it works according to the permissions set for the site from within SharePoint. Does anyone have any idea why this would be happening. I'm completely stumped and I can't find a similar issue anywhere else. I have installed a Stand-alone installation of SharePoint 2010 Server Enterprise on Server 2008. The account that installed the SharePoint server and is a FARM Administrator, can't even log in to view the page. Cheers, Stu. SharePoint Users Behind a Forefront TMG Server Cannot Access Explorer View in Document Libraries

SharePoint server via a Forefront TMG server in a separate sub-domain. These users cannot access Explorer View in Document Libraries nor can they map a drive to the SharePoint directory structure, as users who are in the same sub-domain as the SharePoint server can. Explorer view losing folder path information

Hi all, I am writing a custom webpart to replace SP's default ListWebPart in my document library view page. But I found it can't keep the folder information when showing the "Explorer View". For example, I enter a subfolder "root/folder 1" and select "Explorer View" in  ViewToolbar, it returns the root folders content. But when I click the "Open in Windows Explorer" in ActionMenu, it returns contents of folder 1. I see the Sharepoint's ListViewWebpart does not have this problem. It can return correct contents when I enter a sub folder and click "Explorer View". The page's url contains correnct query strings about folder path (in my own webpart the query string is missing). Is it because I forget some config for the toolbar since I add it via codes? Below is my code to add the toolbar:   SPView view = this.CurrentView; if (view == null) return null; this._toolbar = new ViewToolBar(); this._toolbar.ID = this.ID + "_ViewToolBar"; this._toolbar.RenderContext = SPContext.Current; if (!String.IsNullOrEmpty(view.ToolbarTemplateName)) { this._toolbar.TemplateName = view.ToolbarTemplateName; } return this._toolbar;   Thanks a lot.

SharePoint 2007 - Windows 7 - Explorer View (Leaves a copy in recycle bin)

Hi All, I am facing a strange problem with SharePoint 2007 & Windows 7. I open an existing word document from my PC(Windows 7) and click "save as" and provide a SharePoint document library file path (\\machinename\sitename\DocumentLibraryName) and save the file. The word file becomes visible in the Shared document library, BUT it leaves a copy in the recycle bin of the SharePoint site. Works Normal from Windows XP PC. Any clues. Would greatly appreciate anybody's effort. Regards KCM

IE8 and SharePoint Explorer View Problem

We are running WSS 3.0 on Windows Server 2008.

I have a number of clients accessing Sharepoint using either Windows XP with IE7, Windows Vista with IE8 or Windows 2008 with IE8.

We are experiencing problems with using Explorer Views on Document Libraries when using IE8, the message we are seeing is "your client does not support opening this list with Windows Explorer".

I have ensured that the 'WebClient' Service is started on the SharePoint Server and also ensured that the WebDav Web Service Extension is allowed in IIS (not sure that this is required though).

I do not know how to proceed. My users really need some kind of explorer based access to the Sharepoint Document Libraries, it doesn't necessary need to be via Sharepoint, athough that would be preferable.

Sharepoint library Explorer view - Office 2010 conflict?

Recently upgraded from Office 2007 to 2010.  Some days after install started to receive a message 'you need to activate this product' every time I opened an Office application.  My IT guys did the ncessary to activate Office 2010, but since then my site selection (tab) button on any Sharepoint page will not open the drop-down menu and I cannot change the view of any document library to 'Explorer View'.

I've been looking in forums and other sources and can see this is a known issue with IE8, but when it happened to me, I was using IE7.  The only trigger I can see is the activation of Office 2010

Anyone had similar experience and anyone aware of a fix?

Explorer View within Sharepoint 2007/IE7 stops working when activating an Office 2010 install.

Has anyone else experience this issue:

Office 2010 is installed on a machine with IE7 running on it.

Explorer view within Sharepoint 2007 and IE7 works fine

Office 2010 requires a product key change from a temporary key from the initial install to a permenant key.

The permenant key is installed and suddenly Explorer view within Shrepoint stops working?

sharepoint, explorer view, and IE8 error

Update:  Thank you for all of your replies, but still no luck.  Just to clarify, this is SharePoint 2003 running on a W2K3 Server box with an XP machine with SP3 attempting to view documents within "Explorer View" withing Sharepoint.

I do not see an "Actions" tab.  I am assuming that is with SharePoint 2007?

Again, any help is appreciated.

Thank you.

I recently upgraded a user to IE8.  After doing so I was notified that user can no longer view documents in Explorer View within Sharepoint.  When attempting to do so they get the following error:  Explorer View requires Internet Explorer 5.0 or greater and Web Folders.  I almost get the feeling that this is a permissions or security thing but can't quite pinpoint it.  I tested this on another machine with same setup and received the same results.  Thanks in advance.  Any help is appreciated.

Unable to view SharePoint nodes in Server Explorer

Using Visual Studio 2010, I right-click on SharePoint Connections in Server Explorer and select "Add Connection..."  My SharePoint 2010 site is on the same machine, so I enter http://localhost.  (I've also tried the actual machine name, http://sp2010dev.)  The connection is created with the root site at the top and all the nodes underneath (ContentTypes, Features, etc.).  Some of the nodes I can expand (e.g. List Templates expands to show different List Template types; Lists and Libraries expands to show Document Libraries and Lists).  But then when I try to expand further, I get an error message that states the following:

Unable to retrieve information for this node, possibly because the node has been deleted or its connection disrupted.  If the item exists in SharePoint, be sure it is accessible

I have not found any information about this error, and I've exhausted all attempts to permissions above what I've already created.

Cannot open Explorer View in Sharepoint.

Using Windows Explorer to upload a folder that contains "Bin" sub folder to SharePoint Document Libr

Issue Description:
We have a folder that has the following structure:

When going to a SharePoint (2007 SP2) document library (Shared Documents) and use Windows explorer view to upload the folder we get the following error:

\\SharePointWebApp\DavWWWRoot\SharePointSite\Shared Documents . Verify the item's location and try again"

After further testing we determined that the issue with the "Bin" folder. So, We have created a new Folder and created an empty sub folder called "bin" and we had the same issue. Other folders move fine.

We had this issue after we upgraded our environment to Windows 2008.

It seems the issue is related to Windows 2008 platform since I was able to re-produce the issue on other environments. Also, I have created a new virtual environment and installed SharePoint 2010 Beta and we had the same issue. The issue does not happen on Windows 2003 platform.

On windows 2003, we had no issues with uploading a folder that contains "bin" sub folder and users were able to access the contents (in my scenario photos and images). Now, after we moved to Windows 2008 platform, now users can't view the photos/images via t

How to create scrolling table for columns in a SharePoint Designer Data View

I have a fairly complex SharePoint Designer 2007 Data View they have added two more requirements.

1. Have the columns on the right side be able to scroll left to right as there is a large number of columns, while the first 3 columns on the left side stay locked in place.  This is only one list not two, and because of some other requirements I have it must remain to be just one list.

2. Then they also need to have scrolling up and down of the entire list with the headers locked in place.

The first requirement is more important than the second, but preferrably I need to do both.

I am new to XSL so not familar with the syntax. Is this something I can do on a custom Data View? Does anyone have any examples of how?

I have a drawing that show how it needs to look but I don't see an option here to upload a graphic.

So here is a link to my graphic example uploaded to my blog area: http://lindachapman.blogspot.com/  or just the image here: http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_aB01ue__NvQ/TGL42MOvrGI/AAAAAAAAAA4/c3xP4uCy4BU/s1600/Scrolling.png

I failed to mention that 3/4 of the columns are HTML Calculated fields wh
