Were were experienceing issues with searching on our WSS3.0 SP2 (TFS) sharepoint sites. Someone stopped the "Windows SharePoitn Services Help Search" and then restarted it.

Most data-driven Web sites are used as interfaces to collect, process, and summarize information. Reports that summarize the data can be presented to the user in a variety of formats-the most common way is to display the report directly in a Web page.

Sharepoint and IIS/Windows Event Logs in a single view

Hi - I'm coinsidering addng sharepoint log reading capabilities into an application I've built for reading windows and IIS logs (for more info http://logenvy.com). I know there are quite a few applications capable of reading sharepoint logs (a number are listed here http://stackoverflow.com/questions/781179/sharepoint-2007-log-viewer). Does anyone think the capability to analyse windows and IIS logs alongside sharepoint logs would be useful, or have any logging requirements not well met by the current set of tools? I'm especially keen to explore useful/interesting data visualizations on top of data logs.

Event Handle & Declared Message Errors

Hi Experts: There is a missing event Handle that requires a variable found in the button code . Secondly,  there is a Name declared error (i.e., Name 'First' is not declared, Name 'Last' is not declared, Name 'City' is not declared, Name 'State' is not declared) found in the page code. How do we revise the codes to remove the message errors? Go to the following URL link to view 'High Res' screen shots at http://cforedu.com/screen.pdf Here is the page code:<%@ Page Language="VB" %> <html xmlns="http://www.w3.org/1999/xhtml"> <head id="Head1" runat="server"> <title></title> <script runat="server"> Protected Sub Save(sender As Object, e As EventArgs) Dim First As TextBox = TryCast(Me.fvApplication.FindControl("First"), TextBox) Dim Last As TextBox = TryCast(Me.fvApplication.FindControl("Last"), TextBox) Dim City As TextBox = TryCast(Me.fvApplication.FindControl("City"), TextBox) Dim State As TextBox = TryCast(Me.fvApplication.FindControl("State"), TextBox) End Sub </script> </head> <body> <form id="form1" runat="server"> <div> <asp:FormView runat="server" ID="fvApplicatio

Background worker - errors in completed event

Create a new windows forms project (in using vb.net 2010). Create a button and a background worker on the form. Under the Debug > Exceptions menu, make sure that for 'Common Language Runtime Exceptions' you have 'Thrown' unticked and 'User-unhandled' ticked. Now put the following code in the form's code-behind; Public Class Form1 Private Sub Button1_Click(ByVal sender As System.Object, ByVal e As System.EventArgs) Handles Button1.Click BackgroundWorker1.RunWorkerAsync() End Sub Private Sub BackgroundWorker1_DoWork(ByVal sender As System.Object, ByVal e As System.ComponentModel.DoWorkEventArgs) Handles BackgroundWorker1.DoWork Threading.Thread.Sleep(2000) End Sub Private Sub BackgroundWorker1_RunWorkerCompleted(ByVal sender As Object, ByVal e As System.ComponentModel.RunWorkerCompletedEventArgs) Handles BackgroundWorker1.RunWorkerCompleted Dim X As Integer X = 5 / X End Sub End Class Why does it not error nicely? It comes up with no helpful stack trace and just says 'Exception has been thrown by the target of an invocation.'. Place the code to cause the error into the Button_Click event and run it and you will see the difference. Why do we not get these 'nice' errors given that the runworkercompleted event is supposed to be running on the main thread?

I have configured Search on a Single Farm SharePoint 2010 server on Windows Server 2008 R2. The crawls are working and I’m getting results on a search page, but the event log creates these two events every minute:

Hi All,

I have the following error messages in My event logs, not been able to resove the issue. Can anyone tell me if i need to re-install Full Text Search? It is SQL 2000SP4 (non-clustered) running on 2k3, a 24/7 production server so would rather avoid having to do the re-install if possible. I looked at MS article 317746 - Is this the correct issue for these messages? . I have checked the permissions and nothing has been changed.

Can any one advise if contacting Microsoft suppor is needed for this issue?.

Many thanks

Application Event Log Errors (event id 8031 and 5553)

I'm not sure if it's related, but I recently removed an old Search Service Application from my server and I keep getting the following two event log errors. Everthing seems to be working fine, but I'd like to clear up the errors. Any ideas?

Windows Application Log Event Errors writing back to SharePoint Library fields

Hi has anyone done anything like this?

My Library workflow is writing to an External List (MS SQL backended).  If an exception is thrown in MSSQL (Stored Procedure, Trigger, etc) I would like to create a mechanism for writing something back to my Library besides the workflow column saying "Error Occured".

I could create a text field to provide some error feedback, anybody ever did something like this?

problem in reading event logs of remote machine

I work on application which connects to remote machine and retrieves all event logs from it using EventLogReader and EventLogQuery classes.

I use the API EventLogReader.ReadEvent() for it. It works fine on all platforms except on Windows 7 machine. If I run my application on Windows 7 machine, EventLogReader.ReadEvent() throws an EventLogException with the error message - "The array bounds are invalid"

Have anyone faced this issue before? How I can overcome this problem and continue reading next event logs?

Please let me know.

Guidelines for where/if base.Item*(properties) should be placed in an Item Event Receiver? (WSS3)

Are there any guidelines or reasons as to where (or if) you should place base.Item*(properties) (e.g. base.ItemAdding, base.ItemUpdated, etc.) in Item Event Receivers?
There seems to be a good chunk of people that always make it the first thing, another chunk that just leave it out altogether, and then some that put it last.  This (at bottom) says that .Cancel won't work unless base.ItemAdding/Updating is placed at the top.  This MSDN How-To suggests that AfterProperties[]= won't work unless base.ItemAdding/Updating is placed afterwards.  Then this recommends placing base.Item*(properties) at the end, but inside of a DisableEventFiring block.  The comments in Brian Wilson's Starter Kit say to replace the base.Item* in the template with custom code altogether.

I understand the point that since you've overridden the built-in event handler, you (somestimes?) need to make sure it gets to do whateve

Radio Button Event

Here I have explained the events of radio button with javascript.
Let me explain the scenarion first,
We are having two radio button say radioobtn1 and radiobtn2. If I click on the button 1 then I need to show one DIVor FORM. same as when I click on radiobtn 2. I have given the code for the above scenarion.

how to impose javascript event processing?

If I have some form control like textbox and I want the event handler to be located in the html instead of at the server side, how to do that? Of course I can copy paste javascript code in the aspx file. But is it possible to do that using some object oriented approach (ie programmatically in the code behind)?

Dropdown Event (Template Field)

I have grid view control that includes a dropdown control in a template field.

I wish to execute some code when the value is changed in the dropdown list.  Can't figure out how to capture this event though?

Any suggestions?

Event ID 1011 - DefaultAppPool World Wid Web Pub. Serv. fatal communication error

We have a Windows 2003 server running IIS6 1.1 Framework. We have also installed a DNS and Active Directory in the same machine.

We're randomly getting the error you can see below. Sometimes it causes the recycling of process w3wp.exe (which on my understanding represents the application pool worker processd) and other times results on this process hanging and not responding to any request. To do iisrest temporarly solves the problem.

We were pointed to a possible permissions problem between the user we were runnig the DefaultAppPool with and registry entries used by the iis. We noticed the default predifined user we used, Network Service, wasn't found in the Active Directory, so we changed it by the default configurable user, IWAM_MACHINE_NAME, which is under the IIS_WPG Active Directory Grupo, which, in theory has the correct permissions to run the application pool.

Well, none of this worked and we are still getting this error.

This is driving us crazy and think the problem might have to do with having the Domain Controller/Active Directory and the IIS6 running on the same machine. We'll try now uninstalling this DC pointing to another one to see what happens.

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks in advance,

Event not raised while parsing xml file

In Visual Studio 2010 ASP.NET 4.0

I want to write a procedure to validate a xml file with a xsd. I found some examples on the web but the one i chose does not work as attended. The example uses XmlReader with a XmlReaderSettings and a ValidationEventHandler.

Here is the code

Protected Sub VerifyDes(ByVal filename As String)

Dim xslDes As XmlReaderSettings = New XmlReaderSettings()
        xslDes.Schemas.Add("", "http://www.mysite.com/xsd/ValidData.xml")
        xslDes.ValidationType = ValidationType.Schema
        xslDes.ValidationFlags = XmlSchemaValidationFlags.ReportValidationWarnings

        AddHandler xslDes.ValidationEventHandler, AddressOf xslDesValidationEventHandler

Dim des As XmlReader = XmlReader.Create(filename, xslDes)

        While (des.Read())

        End While

    End Sub

Protected Sub xslDesValidationEventHandler(ByVal sender As Object, ByVal e As ValidationEventArgs)

        'some code here
    End Sub

I tested this procedure with a xml file which was well formed but contained some elements which were not conform to the xsd.

No event or error occured. It said the file was valid.

Then i tested with a badly formed file. A XmlException was raised but nothing happened with the ValidationEventHandler.

It seems lik

How to set up microsoft application blocks 4.0 to talk to event viewer

I need to set up the microsoft application blocks 4.0 on the server and connect it to my web project.  I need to set it up so that all the errors are logged in the event viewer.  So far I have found out how to set up a flat file listener and send the error to a log file but, not to the event viewer.  Any suggestions would be helpful.
