Invalid Template error after deploying site definition to different environment

Posted By:      Posted Date: April 14, 2011    Points: 0   Category :C#

Hi,

I have developed a custom site definition with some custom features and web parts. All Works fine in my development environment i.e site is being created with necessary features and lists. But when I copy the respective files and folders to Production environment and installed my custom features and also run the IISRESET command and click on Create button by selecting my site definition in template section, its giving "The template you have chosen is invalid or cannot be found" error. But a few days prior I have deployed a initial version of the same site definition with same features and every thing had worked fine. I am going crazy of this absurd behavior of SharePoint.its really annoying as it accepts the same definition a few days prior and gives unfriendly error afterwards. If anybody had solved this issue please share it to me to get out of this.

Thanks.

Deploying custom 2007 site definition to 2010

For a customer I am upgrading their SharePoint 2007 enviroment to SharePoint 2010. After a succesfull upgrade I am stuck with one last annoying problem: when creating a publishing site collection using a custom definition the provisioning of the site definition  fails. Interesting about this is that the provisioning works from the central admin UI, but this customer has an custom webpart for creating site collections in a web application outside of Central administration. The simplified code for this is: public static bool Create(SPWebApplication webApp, string Url, string siteTitle, string siteDescription, uint lcid, string siteTemplate, string ownerLogin, string ownerName, string ownerEmail)         { SPSite site = null; try { SPSite newSiteCollection = webApp.Sites.Add(Url, siteTitle, siteDescription, lcid, siteTemplate, ownerLogin, ownerName, ownerEmail); newSiteCollection.Close(); newSiteCollection.Dispose(); site = GetRootSite(webApp); bool r = (site != null) ? true : false; return r; } catch { return false; } finally { if (site != null) site.Dispose(); }         } The exception is thrown when webApp.Sites.Add() is executed. The user we are logged in as, as wel the appID, are Farm Admin's. The ULS shows this exception: Exception thrown while fetching field by internal name 'Wiki_x0020_Page_x0020

Invalid object error on temp table on a particular environment

Hi, I am using a temp table in my sp. I have written the following tsql before and after using the temp table. IF OBJECT_ID('tempdb..##TEMP') IS NOT NULL DROP TABLE tempdb..##TEMP; Data will be inserted to the temp table consecutively using a cursor. I use SELECT * INTO tempdb..##TEMP FROM EXEC('query') to fill this temp table for the first time and INSERT INTO tempdb..##TEMP(<fields>) EXEC('query') for the remaining times. The SP is working fine in my laptop, but I am getting an Invalid Object error on this temp table name in the production server. Could anyone tell me the possible causes please? Thanks Sree

Projects Web Database Site Template immediate error

I decided to explore the Projects Web Database site template - clicked to create the site, and immediately, received an "an error has occurred." message on almost every tab of the site. What am I missing?  Am I supposed to configure something before I create this type of site?   I get this error in the event viewer: Log Name:      Application Source:        Microsoft-SharePoint Products-Access Services Date:          9/8/2010 10:03:43 PM Event ID:      3 Task Category: Data Layer     Access Services: An unexpected error occurred. Exception message: There is a compatibility range mismatch between the Web server and database "WSS_Content_PT", and connections to the data have been blocked to due to this incompatibility. This can happen when a content database has not been upgraded to be within the compatibility range of the Web server, or if the database has been upgraded to a higher level than the web server. The Web server and the database must be upgraded to the same version and build level to return to compatibility range.   Any help is appreciated!  Thanks!

feature stapling done against site definition breaks when saving site as a template?

Hi, we have a bunch of feature stapling done against some of our site definitions on a solution we are working on. This feature staple has a bunch of feature dependancies which all work in a variety of ways. One of these dependancies then uses a feature receiver class to do some post provisioning setting up of web part connections and the like. This all works very well when creating a new site from a site definition etc etc. The problem arises when a user opts to provision a site in this way, and then uses the 'save as template' function within sharepoint. (BTW this is WSS 3.0 / MOSS). The site template saves correctly, but now the feature receiver never runs. I'm assuming this is because the associated feature staple doesnt run either? I've looked around and seen some reference to feature stapling not working against templates. Is this true?

Receiving error when saving site as template: [InvalidOperationException: Error generating solution

I am getting the following error when saving a site as a template (just this specific site is having this issue - other sites in collection successfully save as template): [InvalidOperationException: Error generating solution files in temporary directory.] Microsoft.SharePoint.SPSolutionExporter.ExportWebAsSolution() +26053165 Microsoft.SharePoint.SPSolutionExporter.ExportWebToGallery(SPWeb web, String solutionFileName, String title, String description, ExportMode exportMode, Boolean includeContent, String workflowTemplateName, String destinationListUrl) +1778 Microsoft.SharePoint.SPSolutionExporter.ExportWebToGallery(SPWeb web, String solutionFileName, String title, String description, ExportMode exportMode, Boolean includeContent) +44 Microsoft.SharePoint.ApplicationPages.SaveAsTemplatePage.BtnSaveAsTemplate_Click(Object sender, EventArgs e) +331 System.Web.UI.WebControls.Button.OnClick(EventArgs e) +115 System.Web.UI.WebControls.Button.RaisePostBackEvent(String eventArgument) +140 System.Web.UI.Page.RaisePostBackEvent(IPostBackEventHandler sourceControl, String eventArgument) +29 System.Web.UI.Page.ProcessRequestMain(Boolean includeStagesBeforeAsyncPoint, Boolean includeStagesAfterAsyncPoint) +2981 I'm thinking it may have something to do with permissions, but other sites can save as a template. Also, it does not specify

Server Error in Save Site as Template

When I try to save a site as a template, it fails with the following message if I check "include content":     Server Error in '/' Application. ...Any ideas how best to start diagnosing this? The error message recommends that I edit the application's web.config to show custom errors, but, there are 32 web.configs in the sharepoint 14 hive - not sure which one to edit.  The site in question contains one custom list with one custom plain-text column, and one nearly empty page with some text.

Duplicate field name error, creating new site from custom template

I've made a site that maps the site (with a table of contents) and i export it to another site collection. I'm able to install and activate the solution in the other site collection, however when i'm going to create a new site using the site i've installed as a template it pops an error saying "A duplicate field name Wiki_x0020_Page_x0020_CategoriesTaxHTField" was found." I have no clue what this means. Can anyone help me? Thanks in advance

Creating a Site Column that Looks up an External List causes error when saving site as a template.

I'm not sure what the best practice is here, but I'm having a major issue trying to save sites as templates and I think I narrowed it down as to what the issue is.

When I try to save a site as a template, it creates the solution package, but it doesn't activate it.  When I try to activate it manually, I get the following error:

Feature definition with Id e9431ed5-27b1-4c33-9eeb-81b4ace9d372 failed validation, file 'test1ListInstances\ElementsFields.xml', line 481, character 231: The 'SystemInstance' attribute is not allowed.

I opened up the solution package and looked at the ElementsFields.xml file.  I traced the line to this:

<Field Type="BusinessData" DisplayName="Acme People Name" Required="FALSE" EnforceUniqueValues="FALSE" Group="Custom Columns" ID="{55b3bbba-a7e3-4698-9946-648a6b726e9e}" SourceID="{026904fd-f2d0-4e57-a239-c6da838458fa}" StaticName="Acme_x0020_People_x0020_Name" Name="Acme_x0020_People_x0020_Name" SystemInstance="ACME" EntityNamespace="http://????????:28241" EntityName="People" BdcField="FullName" Profile="" HasActions="True" SecondaryFieldBdcNames="0" RelatedF

Error when creating a custom site template

Hi

In VS 2010, I created a new SP project to create a custom site template.

W/O modifying the content, except setting the output path of the webtemp file to another language, I have the following error when I try to create a site based on this template :

failed to instantiate file "default.master" from module "defaultmasterpage": source path "default.master" not found

I've taken a look at OOB site templates, and I don't see what is missing.

I'd appreciate any help.

When opening the Reports site, I get "A name was started with an invalid character." error

Hello, I am running out of ideas on how to get SSRS to work.  I am trying get this setup with the intention to replace our Crystal Reports server.  Currently I have set up the RS Virtual Directory on a Win XP box.  The ReportServer database sits on another SQL2000 box.

I can connect to the http://localhost/ReportServer/ on the XP box to display the page the depicts "Microsoft SQL Server Reporting Services Version 9.00.2047.00"

When I connect to the http://localhost/Reports/, I get this error "A name was started with an invalid character. Error processing resource 'http://leej/Reports/'. Line 1, Position 2"   I checked my IIS Virtual Directory properties for Reports and ASP.NET is set to v2.0.50727.   I also executed "aspnet_regiis.exe -i" in the "C:\WINDOWS\Microsoft.NET\Framework\v2.0.50727" directory.

Any thought on how to fix this?  I hate to let this blocker deters us from deploying SSRS.

Thanks,

John

Error during site creation using template

Hi Team,

I am trying to create a web site in web applications using site templates. I have other 3 sites created sucessfully following the same procedure.

Provisioning did not succeed. Details: The site template was not provisioned successfully. Delete this site collection in Central Administration, and then create a new site collection. OriginalException: The 'backupFolder' start tag on line 5 does not match the end tag of 'Configuration'. Line 6, position 3.

Any suggestions will be appreciated.

Thanks

Rohit

404 Page Not Found Error When Trying to Create a Site From a Custom Site Template

I just moved a site collection from a one server to another, and now I can't make copies of my sites using custom site templates.

The details of my site structure are in the next paragraph, in case they are relevant.
On the original server, I created custom templates for my sites, and checked the Include Content checkbox
when creating the templates. Everything works perfectly on that server. When I moved the whole site collection to another
server using stsadm backup/restore everything was there, including my customized web parts. But now I can't create new sites
from templates - and I'm I'm not trying to use templates created on the original server. I'm creating new templates on the new
server. It successfully creates the templates, but when I try to create a new site from one of those templates, I get a
"HTTP 404 Page Not Found" page. It succeeds in creating the new site, and the new site shows up in my navigation bar,
but when I click on the new site, I get a "404 Page Not Found" page.

*********Details*************
On the original server, I created one top level site for my whole department. Under that, I have one subsite for each of our
external clients. Under each of those, I have one subsite for each project for that client. I used a Team site as my starting
point at each of the 3 leve
