SharePoint 2010 site not working unless I use FQDN

Posted By:      Posted Date: April 14, 2011    Points: 0   Category :C#

Hello all.  I've got a SharePoint 2010, Windows 2008 R2 set up here.

One of the developers did this

I installed the pdf icon into the server. I went into the templates folder for images and added the .gif and then I modified the DOCICON.xml file to add the key value pair. I was supposed to restart the server afterward. That's when I created that problem.

He then went in and stop/started this

Microsoft SharePoint Foundation Web Application

Nowe can only connect with this  http://SITE.domainname   if we try and connect via the short name  http://SITE  then I get the IIS7 "welcome" page.

When I ping SITE and Site.FQDN I get the same IP (servers) so DNS looks good.

I go into IIS7

When Upgraded a site from Wss 3.0 to Sharepoint foundation 2010, subsites are not working

HI ALL, I recently migrated an old Sharepoint site from WSS 3.0 to Sharepoint foundation 2010. There were no problems during the upgrade and the stsadm command displayed the message that upgrade completed successfully. However when I am accessing the sub-sites from outside the server, I am able to see the content, but when I go to Site Settings, I get an error "File not found". Also the Views for the sub-sites are not working. However on accessing the sub-sites from the Server everything is working fine. Can anyone please help me?

SharePoint 2010 Claims Based Authenticaton site working but search is broken

Hi, I have SP 2010 sucessfully installed on a Windows 2008 R2 server with SQL Server 2008 R2.  I created local machine accounts for the following: MACHINE\mssqlservice MACHINE\sp_admin MACHINE\sp_search MACHINE\sp_farms I have setup 2 sites with public facing internet access as well as local sites. I have CBA working properly on both sites from both public and private access. My problem is that when I go to search, I am constantly redirected to an error page. I have checked all SP services on the server and they are all running as MACHINE\mssqlservice That account has proper access to all sites as well as all DB's. My search is crawling and I get one error from a long named PDF file in my site, which is OK.   My questions is if my CBA is working fine and my search is crawling, why I am not getting a results page when I search from the sites:   Here is the error I get:   Error Internal server error exception:   Troubleshoot issues with Microsoft SharePoint Foundation. Correlation ID: 5a03b730-42c2-48c9-a220-3b9d052481de Date and Time: 9/9/2010 4:45:07 PM   I am kind of stuck at this point and am not sure how to proceed.  Any help would be appreciated.        --TR

SharePoint 2010 site using FQDN and Silverlight Client object model issues

I am working a FQDN installation of SP2010 site and I am having touble connecting to it from Silverlight, when my Silverlight app is running outside that SP2010.
Just to include the note, that if I use the CLR client object model, from a Console Application, I am able to connect to the FQDN SP 2010 site, and get all data I need. Using the CLR and monitoring with fiddler there are two consequent requests made: first GET to http://my_sp2010_site_fqdn/_vti_bin/sites.asmx, then POST to http://my_sp2010_site_fqdn/_vti_bin/client.svc/ProcessQuery and Everything works fine.
However when it comes to the Silverlight Client I have troubles.
If I put my silverlight application in a web part inside my site, it works. If I put it on a regular site, outside SP - it does not work and following behavior is observed:

There is initial request sent to
but there is no consequent request to http://my_sp2010_site_fqdn/_vti_bin/client.svc
That second request does not even show up in fiddler.

Sharepoint 2010 Search this site not working

I have a 6 server farm.   2 App servers for indexing and 3 Web Front ends setup to crawl as well.     I can search if I go to the sites/search pages but just doing a search on the home page using the search box on the top of the page I am getting 0 results.   Also if I search on a list/library I am getting 0 results.    Anyone have the same issue and no how to resolve.   I have over 16000 items in the index.

FullTextQuery not working after upgrade to SharePoint 2010

I have a function   Public Function QueryEx(ByVal webUrl As String, ByVal queryXml As String) As DataSet     Dim ds As DataSet = Nothing   Try   Dim myCredentials As NetworkCredential = CredentialCache.DefaultNetworkCredentials sws =   New SearchService.QueryService sws.Url = webUrl &   "/" & webServiceName   CType(sws, SearchService.QueryService).QueryEx(queryXml)     Catch ex As Exception lblDebug.Text =   "QueryEx: " & ex.Message pnlError.Visible =   True ds = Nothing   Finally sws.Dispose()   End Try   Return ds     End Function and passed the following full text query wrapped in the appropriate xml SELECT FileExtension, Filename, EffectiveDate, Title, Author, State, PolicyType, ApplicationType, PolicyNumber, ClientCode, CreatedBy, Created, ModifiedBy, LastModifiedTime, Path FROM portal..scope() WHERE ("SCOPE" = 'MyDeptScope') AND "IsDocument" = 1  AND ("Filename" LIKE 'Sub%') this worked in SharePoint 2007. We upgraded to SharePoint 2010.  I have all the managed properties setup the same on both versions.  I had to modify the query to get past one error I was receiving to SELECT FileExtension, Filename, EffectiveDate, Title, Author, State, PolicyType, ApplicationType, Pol

SharePoint Search not working on one site collection

I am running into some weird behavior with how SharePoint is crawling site/list data.  Let's say our main intranet site is http://www.intranet.com: Most of our older sites are setup with URLs like http://www.intranet.com/sites/sitename .  Crawling is working fine on these sites and I can execute a search and find all of the results I would expect.  At some point recently (before I joined this firm), they made a decision that all new sites would have the URL http://www.intranet.com/SiteDirectory/sitename .  Any sites which fall into this bucket are not being crawled, it would seem. If I check Central Adman>Shared Services>Search Administration, I can see that the first content source being crawled is http://www.intranet.com so I would imagine this crawl should pick up anything under /SiteDirectory/ but it is not.  I also checked the Crawl Settings on this page and it is set to "Crawl everything under the hostname for each start address".  Lastly, I see that there were only 21 errors in the last full crawl but none of these errors apply to a /SiteDirectory/ site. In short, what could be causing the crawl to apparently skip all of the sites within /SiteDirectory/ and how can this best be fixed?

Cannot crawl sharepoint site and mysite after database attach upgrade form sharepoint 2007 to 2010.

After database attach upgrade site and mysite from sharepoint 2007 to 2010 , I have full crawl and get "The crawler could not communicate with the server. Check that the server is available and that the firewall access is configured correctly. If the repository was temporarily unavailable, an incremental crawl will fix this error. ( Error from SharePoint site: HttpStatusCode ServiceUnavailable The request failed with HTTP status 503: Service Unavailable. )" for mysite and get "Access is denied. Verify that either the Default Content Access Account has access to this repository, or add a crawl rule to crawl this repository. If the repository being crawled is a SharePoint repository, verify that the account you are using has "Full Read" permissions on the SharePoint Web Application being crawled." for sharepoint site. The content access account for search is "db_owner" of both of site and mysite. How do I solved this problem ?

New SP 2010 Installation - Can't Get User Profiles / Outlook / My Site stuff working.

Hello,   I have a new SP 2010 Installation. I did NOT set it up in Standalone mode. My users can log in and create their own My Sites. They can edit them, add content, etc. When using Outlook 2010, they add one another in the People Pane. It shows up under My Site > My colleagues that they are connected. However, in Outlook, the MySite icon in the People Pane has a red X on it. I thought that User Profile Sync Service might be the culprit after reading through various blogs. However, if I go to Central Administration > Manage Profile Service : User Profile Service Application... if I click Configure Synchronization Connections, the page comes up - "The query returns nothing." I try to click "Create New Connection"... I get an error message - Cannot navigate to the requested page while User Profile Synchronization is running. Please wait for the current Synchronization to finish.   OK - I thought that the query returned no results. I don't see the service running... can someone point me in the right direction?
