Inconsistent error message on Custom Workflow.

Posted By:      Posted Date: April 14, 2011    Points: 0   Category :C#

Recently on custom workflows I've been getting this error message when trying to navigate to you a custom task form on a workflow.  I had to enable logging to see it instead of "Unkown Error."

Only Content controls are allowed directly in a content page that contains Content controls.   at System.Web.UI.FileLevelPageControlBuilder.AppendLiteralString(String text)
   at System.Web.UI.TemplateParser.ProcessLiteral()

This message only occurs randomly and if I hit refresh a few times the task form will display.  This message occurs in two custom workflows. I'll start testing the out of box workflows and see if this message comes up.

Nintex Workflow Error: No workflows are waiting for a BizTalk message [...] No processing has been d

I created a Workflow with Nintex Workflow 2007 (on SharePoint 2007) to send/receive data to BizTalk 2009. It worked fine already. But now I get the following error mesage in the EventViewer:

Nintex Workflow; Build: 11000 (http://ls457/_layouts/nintexworkflow/BiztalkHandler.ashx)
No workflows are waiting for a BizTalk message with message Id of 'GeneralAccessRequest_2010-08-23T15_00_04_44961212B370C554EDFAC41C1201ED6CEFB' on teamsite http://ls457/sites/testapp. No processing has been done.

What could that mean? Any ideas? I definitely changed nothing on the orchestration or BizTalk administration. The BizTalk action sends the data correctly to it's destination (database), but it seems that nintex doesn't receive any return data. I don't think it's a BizTalk problem, because in the BizTalk Message Tracking Database the Message is listet, so it has been sent correctly by BizTalk. But the handler probably has problems to find/receive this message.

Kind regards,

Workflow "Error Occurred" Message

Hi, We have upgraded a VS 2008 custom workflow in our production environment but we are now seeing an "Error Occurred" message when starting in one site that the workflow is activated on.  It works fine on another site.  Permissions DID NOT change for users on this site before or after or during the upgrade of the workflow. It works fine in our test environment. How can I troubleshoot this in production environment (I cannot debug)? Can somebody give me a definite answer on what are the required permissions to give user to allow them to start workflows and edit only their own Tasks?  I have asked this question on a number of forums with no definitive answer.

Custom Workflow Error: The Workflow files were saved but cannot be run

Hi all,

I'm wondering if someone would have any suggestions on how I can troubleshoot this custom workflow issue.

Recently we can't attach any SharePoint Designer workflow to any list in a farm. We get this error message:

"Errors were found when compiling the workflow. The workflow files were saved but cannot be run. Unexpected error on server associating the workflow"

The standard workflows from UI seems to be working fine. Also user defined workflow is enabled. In the past I was able to fix similar issue with another farm following this post (remvoing SP designer custom workflow activities entries)- but does not look like this is the case this time.

Nothing in the logs regarding this error. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Many thanks!

Access Denied Error Message from Custom Webpart

I am new to MOSS so can anyone please help me to solve this problem.

I've a list in MOSS-2007, and a group of people with Read Only Rights so they cannot change any list item. But I want to give them access to edit one column (i-e Comments) in that list.

So I created a custom web part page and put a comments text box in it. At DispForm.aspx page of list there is a link which redirects to Custom page for adding comments and I am passing Item ID in query string.

But the problem is that when anyone adds the comment on custom page an ACCESS DENIED message appears. I've even set "web.AllowUnsafeUpdates = true" but didn't work

Literal Error when trying to pass custom types to my workflow

I have a simple procedural workflow that determines how to assign a real estate lead to an agent. It takes three input parameters, and 1 output parameter. The only unusual aspect of this activity, (if you call it unusual), is that I'm passing in complex objects rather than types. I've created a lead and agent objects like this:

    public class LeadProxy
        public int PK { get; set; }
        public int Amount { get; set; }

    public class AgentProxy
        public int PK { get; set; }
        public int Senority { get; set; }
        public int CurrentLeadCount { get; set; }

My current input arguments are:

    <x:Property Name="Agents" Type="InArgument(scg:List(local:AgentProxy))" />
    <x:Property Name="Lead" Type="InArgument(local:LeadProxy)" />
    <x:Property Name="AssignToAgent" Type="OutArgument(local:AgentProxy)" />

Error retrieving Workflow Properties in a Custom State Machine Workflow WSS 3.0

Using Visual Studio 2008 and the Office 2008 State Machine workflow template, I created a VERY SIMPLE workflow with ONE state. In the state initialization, I create a simple task. This works fine when I hard code the title, etc for the task. But, when I need to get some properties out of the list where the workflow was started, I get an exception  I've done this in a sequential workflow and it works fine. Error is: "Value cannot be null. Need help with a custom error page that shows the error message details

I know how to alter the web config to redirect to an errors page but what I need to do is have the actual offending error message print to that page. This is a special request for testing reasons, I realize the whole point of a custom error page is to provide a user friendly message when an error occurs but for testing we want to show the user the message so they can copy and paste it into a ticketing system we are using for beta testing feedback.

Should I use the global.asax instead? I am pretty new to vb.net and am not sure how to get the actual error message to display on my custom error page. Any guidance would be greatly appreciated.

Custom VS2008 Workflow "An error has occured in Workflow" - Error Occured

The problem: a custom workflow associated with InfoPath form in a document library on SharePoint 2007 fails to fire on the new server. We get "Error Occurred" as workflow status every time.  History Logs are not informative, here's one example:

Creating a custom Workflow + Custom workflow task + complete = error

Hi everyone,

I am using a custom workflow in SharePoint 2010, with one task in it using a Custom Content type deriving from the "Workflow Task" type, with a custom Edit form.

From this point everything is fine, I can create my Task, open it from the task list with my custom webpage as form, but when I want to update my task to complete it, i get a very weird message that I didn't find any help about: "The workflow's parent item associated with this task is currently in the recycle bin, which prevents the task from being completed".

I Just have my Custom workflow using a Custom Workflow task, I don't see where this should come from... I even looked in the Recycle Bin, but it was empty as I was thinking it would be...

Any chances someone got a solution on this?

Cheers, Ben

Access Denied error on custom workflow task list item

We have created a two level custom approval workflow on (an InfoPath) form library using SharePoint Designer (SPD) with first and second approver. The workflow works fine as long as the approver is in the Site Collection Administrators group. The approvers who are not in the admin group can get to the custom Task form for approve/reject, but they can only view the form. When they click on the “Edit Item” button of the task list item, they receive “Access Denied” error. We have given these approvers “Approve”, “Contribute” permissions on the Form library and even Full Control on the task form list (all items). Note: The users use their domain account and the error they are getting is: Access Denied, You are currently signed as DomainName\LoginName, Sign in as a different user.

We have read through several forums and have found people having the same issue. We tried all of the suggestions described in the following links - but no success so far.

SharePoint Designer Workflows, Tasks, and the Annoying “Access Denied” Error

How do I display a custom error message if Authorize fails

I have a page that can only be accessed by "Admins". If a user who is NOT an admin tries to access the page, I'd like to do two things:

  1. Log the error to the database
  2. Send the user to my error page but display a custom message

I don't know where to handle the error logging because there doesn't seem to be a controller for the error page (I'm using Razor. Just created an Internet Application MVC3 project in VS 2010)

I also don't know how to customize the error message.

Could someone give me some pointers on this?
