Crawl doesn't work and Query server is not responding; Search works only for old (crawled) contents

Posted By:      Posted Date: April 14, 2011    Points: 0   Category :C#

We have following three servers with MOSS 2007 STD deployed in SharePoint server farm,

App01- Query Server

App02 - Index Server (We are using this server as dedicated web front end computer for crawling)

SPDBServer - SQL 2005

Search was working fine till 01/05/2008 and it stopped working after this date only for new contents meaning search is still working fine for the old contents which were added before 01/05/2008 but not for new contents added after 01/05/2008.

We have been working to find out reasons why did that happen? We have found following event ids on Query server,

Event ID:10042 - A new query machine, 'App01', has been added to the query rotation based on changes to farm topology.

MS SQL Server: Search All Tables, Columns & Rows For Data or Keyword Query

If you need to search your entire database for specific data, this query will come in handy.

So when a client needs a custom report or some sort of custom development using Great Plains, most of the time I will have to track down the data in the system by running this query and find the table(s) it is in.

AsyncPostBackTrigger doesn't work on server..

 I am new to asp.net and ajax. I have a problem while using update panel.
I have a tabcontainer with 3-4 tab panels. Inside one tab panel there is a cancel button. What i want to do is to when i hit cancel button in code behind i change active tab index to 0 so that tabcontainer shows first tab panel. I have update panel around tab container. This works at my localhost. But on server its behavior is very random. Sometimes it works sometime it doesn't. Unfortunately I am not able to debug it also. I don't know how to debug code on server. As on localhost it works correctly so I am kind of stuck.

Crawl Component Resilience Requires Sharepoint Server Search Administration Component?

I have a single crawl database and two crawl components pointing to that crawl database. One of the crawl components also has the Sharepoint Server Search Administration component running. When I close down the server running the Sharepoint Server Search Administration component crawling stops. I removed the crawl component from the server running Sharepoint Server Search Administration component and reindexed and this worked. So the additional crawl component works fine. Checked that incremental crawl would run in 5 minutes. Downed the Sharepoint Server Search Administration component server and uploaded some new content. Crawling did not run. Can anyone confirm that this is expected behaviour? I am now trying to transfer the Sharepoint Server Search Administration component to the other server as part of Disaster Recovery preparation and this is failing as per another recently opened problem.

SharePoint search server 2010 crawl rules

My client wants to create a number of scopes by crawling specific subsites of a CMS 2.0 site.  The CMS site is crawled as a website and security is ignored (e.g. results are not security trimmed). As an example, they want to create a scope called “Audit”.  This scope will use a content source which crawls all content starting at http://server/services/audit and http://server/wssservices/audit. The first is the CMS 2.0 site, the second is a WSS 3.0 site that contains documents for the CMS site. I setup the content source with start address of http://server/services/audit and http://server/wssservices/audit with the crawl settings set to ‘only crawl within the server of each start address’. Additionally, I have created rule with path http://server/services/audit* and set the configuration to “Include all items in this path”, with “Crawl SharePoint content as http pages” also selected.  I have created rule with path http://server/wssservices/audit* with the same configuration settings, except  “Crawl SharePoint content as http pages” is not selected . I have also performed a full crawl after creating the content source and crawl rules. What I would expect to happen is that only results from http://server/services/audit or documents linked from http://server/wssservices/audit would show i

Search Server 2010 Express Error when crawling LOB Data with BCS Error while crawling LOB contents.

Ok so search server is crawling our BCS external data source which has some columns that allow null. When it hits a null in one of these columns it dies out with: Error while crawling LOB contents. ( '.', hexadecimal value 0x00, is an invalid character. Line 94, position 11. ) This is in the crawl log Is the a Fix / Update / Work around for this (other than modifying the table, taking off allow nulls and using a "blank" default value)

BDC model in Search Server 2010 indexing error - Error while crawling LOB contents. ( Not a valid Wi

I have created a .NET connector assembly that pulls data from an in-house .asmx web service.  I have successfully created an external list in a search center site that displays this data without problem.   However, I've run into an error and a warning when indexing this list in search server 2010 for which I cannot find much information.  I've configure a content source with LOB data as the content source type and select my external data source from the list. After running a full crawl, I receive this error: Error while crawling LOB contents. ( Not a valid Win32 FileTime. ) And this warning: The content for this address was excluded by the crawler because this item was marked with a no-index meta-tag. To index this item, remove the meta-tag and recrawl. My .NET connector assembly looks like this:   public static WeatherEntity ReadItem(string id) { foreach (WeatherEntity entity in GetAllEntities()) { if (entity.LocationAbbreviation == id) { return entity; } } return null; } public static IEnumerable<WeatherEntity> ReadList() { return GetAllEntities().ToArray(); } public static List<WeatherEntity> GetAllEntities() { List<WeatherEntity> weatherEntities = new List<WeatherEntity>(); WeatherService.WeatherWS service = new WeatherService.WeatherWS(); WeatherService.DsWeatherDa

Query server not responding in SharePoint 2010

When I try to search anything in SharePoint 2010 site its showing

sp_send_dmail doesn't work in Agent job with query parameter

I have the following query which needs to run on a schedule and email a list of all disabled jobs for the SQL Server instance (I've changed the server and email names for privacy):

 EXEC msdb.dbo.sp_send_dbmail
 @recipients = N'name@email.com'
 ,@body = N'The attachment shows the names of all SQL jobs that are currently disabled on SERVER1'
 ,@subject = N'Disabled Jobs on SERVER1'
 ,@query = N'SELECT [NAME] FROM [msdb].[dbo].[sysjobs]'
 ,@attach_query_result_as_file = 1

This query works fine when running from a query window.  however, when I try to run it from a SQL Agent job, I get the following error on the step output (username changed for privacy):

Executed as user: domain\user. Error formatting query, probably invalid parameters [SQLSTATE 42000] (Error 22050). The step failed.

If I try other queries in the @query parameter, everything works fine when running from the job.  As soon as I try to query [msdb].[dbo].[sysjobs] though, the job fails.  I ran a profiler trace, and I found a more detailed error message that occurs during the execution of the job, unfortunately it involves an undocument SP:

exec sp_executesql N'EXECUTE msdb.dbo.sp_sqlagent_log_jobhistory @job_id = @P1, @step_id = @P2, @sql_message_id = @P3, @sql_severity = @P4, @run_status

SharePoint 2010 search crawl error: The SharePoint item being crawled returned an error when request

SharePoint 2010 search crawl error:
The SharePoint item being crawled returned an error when requesting data from the web service. ( Error from SharePoint site: Specified argument was out of the range of valid values. )

This error is for both document and folder. The document and folder were created/uploaded via SharePoint User Interface only. Later these doc/folder were deleted. And we found the search result showing the documents that were deleted from the doc library resulting in '404 page not found error' upon clicking. Ofcourse we did an incremental crawl after  deleting the file/folder. The error is same even after full crawl.

Environment details:
1 server - WFE role
1 server - App server role
1 server - index server role

Another information if helpful: We used some third party tool to migrate few sample data in the same server but on different site collection, different content database but on the same web application. The tool migrated the data and set unique permissions too for the migrated files. We tried deleting them via SharePoint interface and that files too gave a similar error!

"PivotTable.DisplayEmptyRows = false " in Excel pulling from Analysis Server 2008, doesn't work.

We display financial information, using Excel pulling from Analysis Server 2008.

In vba,  "ptTemp.DisplayEmptyRow = false" works fine for hiding empty rows of data on most pivot tables, but if the "account numbers" parent/child dimension is in the row fields, it doesn't.

The row Dimension look like this:

Balance Sheet

Current Assets

Total Balance Sheet

Income Statement

Gross Profit

Item A

Total Income Statement

returning data as hyperlink works but doesn't work

Please help. I have a form that searches my database and returns results well but each record contains a cell with a link to another html page. The problem is that whether I place the html pages in the same directory as the .asp codes or in a separate directory with the link being an absolute URL, the action of clicking on the link fails to redirect. Is it possible?

The returns are addresses and the link in each record is to it's own address page with google map.

Query server not responding

We're having issues with our search.

Search Doesn't Work

I'm using WSS 3.0 as a hosted service, and I've installed the Bug Database template. I've logged so many bugs that I need to search for the item, because sorting the list takes too long. However, I often have no results returned, or only a partial list, which means I have to spend a lot of time trying to find the bug manually.

It seems like search will usually find a result if the word is in the title, but if a word is in the comments of an item it likely won't find it.

Is there any reason that search doesn't work?

Server.HTMLDecode works but modal popup doesn't close

As the title of this post already mentioned, I'm using a modal popup window to edit rows in the gridview. One column in the gridview contains an URL code. When I fire the edit button a popup opens and show the URL in a textbox in this format: &lt;http://blablaba/re?add=14&amp;t=2&quot; /&gt;

When I am using the Server.HTMLDecode function, the modal popup doesn't close anymore.

I am using the following code:

<div style="text-align: right; width: 262px">
    <asp:Button ID="BtnCancel" runat="server" Text="Cancel" OnClick="BtnCancel_Click" />

<asp:LinkButton ID="lnkFake" runat="server"></asp:LinkButton>
<asp:LinkButton ID="lnkFakeOk" runat="server"></asp:LinkButton>

<ajaxToolkit:ModalPopupExtender ID="MPE_edit" runat="server" DropShadow="true" PopupControlID="pnlAddEdit"
                TargetControlID="lnkFake" CancelControlID="lnkFakeOk" BackgroundCssClass="modalBackground">

txtURL.Text = Server.HtmlDecode(row.Cells[3].Text);

The funny thing is, when I change it to: txtURL.Tex

unmanaged C dll works in VS2005 but It doesn't work on other PC without it

I have a VB winforms, I use function from unmanaged C++ dll "Reserva.DLL" (Manifest: <assemblyIdentity type="win32" name="Microsoft.VC80.DebugCRT" version="8.0.50608.0" processorArchitecture="x86" publicKeyToken="1fc8b3b9a1e18e3b"></assemblyIdentity>).

I use this code to call the functions:

    Private Declare Sub DestroyReserva Lib "RESERVA.dll" ()

ASHX doesn't work when uploaded to server

I have a 3.5 app with a subfolder containing numerous documents.  I want to control access to all files in this subfolder via an ASHX handler.  My file system looks like this:

The content of the web.config in the files folder is simple:

<add verb="*" path="*" type="Portal.Filecabinet.Filecabinet" />

This works fine on my WinXP / IIS6 developement box, but doesn't work at all when I upload it to my IIS7 / shared hosting account (GoDaddy).  I know it doesn't work because I can access every file in the subfolder - the restrictions I wrote in my ASHX code-behind aren't taking affect at all.

I've lost about 36 hours now trying to figure this one out.  I would be happy to fax someone a beer for some help on this one.
