Site Skinning: Rich XML Classes Let Users Personalize Their Visual Experience on Your ASP.NET Site

One way that Web sites and applications become better able to meet the needs of customers is by allowing them to personalize their experience. For Web sites, this means displaying the content as the user wants to see it. For rich-client applications, this often means allowing the user to choose the user interface through a technique known as skinning, which is similar to themes in Windows XP. This article shows how you can apply skinning to Web sites, wrapping their functionality in a new user interface. The technique uses the rich XML classes in the .NET Framework and the built-in extensibility of ASP.NET.

All Users (Including Site Collection Admins) receiving Access Denied from one Site Collection

I usually spend my time in the forums answering questions.  But this time I need the help. I’ve got a client who somehow has succeeded in locking EVERYONE out of one of their Site Collections.  Users can authenticate to the site, but get an accessdenied page when you try to access anything in the site collection, including pages served from the _Layouts virtual directory.  The AccessDenied page shows that they are authenticated, but not authorized.  This is true for Site Collection admins and user’s who have been given Grant Full Control via a Web Application Permission Policy.  Central Admin and one other site collection are behaving normally.  I've already checked for database permissions - the service account can access the database fine. I've also checked for a locked database or overextended quota.  It's not that either. The accessdenied page url references the users list in the root of the site collection as the offending list denying access.   Does anyone have any ideas?Paul Stork SharePoint Server MVP

Can not delete large sharepoint site

Hi, I'm wondering if anyone can suggest how I can get rid of a large site (over 10 G) which we don't need anymore. When I try to delete it from the Settings.aspx page I guess process get stuck somewhere - progress bar just sit at around 25% for an hour. When I cancel out of the delete page - I find the site structure is intact. No clue in the ULS logs - all it says deleting that particular site.... The worse thing is that it makes the whole portal inaccessible...probably due to slowness. I even tried thorugh the STSADM deleteweb command - same result. I then thought it would be better deleting the whole site collection where that particular site belongs to from the Central Administration. No luck....when it takes the site down I see many different types of application log warnings (1309, 2262) and errors (5586, 6398).  I found another similar posting here - but really want to avoid the answer from that (I explained why at the end of that post). I'm hoping anyone else can suggest me a way to delete this site. Also any suggestion how long it might take to delete a site of that size? This is a MOSS 2007 farm with SP2 applied and SQL server 2005 at the backend. Thank you in advanced!

Delete Site in Collection

Hello! I have a site collection with 100+ subsites and I needed to remove one the subsites. I usually go into the subsites site settings and choose "delete this site" and it has always worked without issue. Well...I had a large site(10 GB) I needed to delete last week so I used my ususal method. The first thing I noticed was system performance tanked. You couldn't even navigate to sites. When the delete finished all that was gone was the security groups. All the site content was intact. I thought possibly there was a problem with the site being so large so I deleted all the libraries and lists using sharepoint designer and/or the UI. I verified nothing was in the sites recycle bin or the site collections recycle bin and tried deleting again. Same results. A colleague suggested I try deleting from the command line (stsadm.exe -o deleteweb). Results were the same. Does anyone have any suggestions on how I can delete this subsite. Thanks in AdvanceRenee P.S. I also tried deleting from Sharepoint Designer with same result.ReneeDD

SSRS 2008 SP1 - Enabling "My Reports" allows users delete reports in folders they should not be able

Issue: Users that have “My Reports” SSRS Role assigned to them can delete reports in other “shared” folders. My understanding was that they will be able to do the tasks specified only  in the “My Reports” workspace not everywhere. I have “My Reports” enabled via SSMS. Users have “My Reports” role assigned to them at the root level. My SSRS Role “My Reports” has only the following tasks assigned: 1.       View Reports 2.       Manage reports 3.       View Folders 4.       Manage Folders To test, I'm using Development version of SQL Server 2008 SP1. Thanks in advance, Martina

I get an error whe I try to delete a row from a list in a SP 2003 site

Hello Everyone, I have a customer who is having problems with an SP 2003 site. Here is what the concern is: I have a list on an SP 2003 site... and I am attempting to delete a row from the list... To do that I am setting the list in "Datasheet view". I select the row, right click and select the "delete" option from the menu and delete the row. Then when I click on the "Show in Standard View" button, I get the following error: "An unexpected error has occured. Changes to your data cannot be saved. For this error, you can retry or discard your changes". When I retry, it says the same error msg... Then I have to discard my changes, and I am not successful in deleting the row. Please can someone help with this request? Regards, Reshma

Delete users from ASPNET DB if it exist

Good day! We have Sharepoint 2010, SQL 2008, FBA. All works well! I try to create windows form with many functions one of which is to create and delete users from aspnet database. I make a code for users creating. Now I try to write a code for users deleting. Here it is: private void Delete_Click(System.Object sender, System.EventArgs e) { string userName = string.Empty; string Status = string.Empty; int cnt = 0; if (MessageBox.Show("You are about to delete " + UsrName.Text + ". Are you sure you want to continue?", "Delete Users", MessageBoxButtons.YesNo) == System.Windows.Forms.DialogResult.No) return; try { //delete the user userName = UsrName.Text; Membership.DeleteUser(userName, true); } catch (Exception ex) { cnt += 1; Status += ex.Message; } if (cnt == 0) { MessageBox.Show("User was deleted successfully. ", "Users Deleted", MessageBoxButtons.OK, MessageBoxIcon.Information); } else { MessageBox.Show("There were errors deleting user: " + Status, "Error", MessageBoxButtons.OK, MessageBoxIcon.Information); } } If I delete existing users all works fine. If I try to delete unexisting users I have the message which is in last statement. How can

Allowing internal users access to Sharepoint site externally

Good afternoon.   This may be a simple answer (I hope so actually) but I haven't been able to figure this out. What I need: I have internal users who can access my Sharepoint site easily while logged onto my network, and external users who I have added to our Active Directory system who can access the site using our external URL.  Both work fine. What I am having problems with:  One of my users (internal) is on a different AD (he is on our European network) and he can not access the site either from the VPN (when he is in the US) nor from the external site (it will take him to the logon screen, but since he doesn't have an account on our AD, it won't let him in). I understood from our European IS department that all we had to do was give him both internal and external access to the Sharepoint site, and he would be able to connect from anywhere. So, how do I do that (give him both)?  Do I need to have our IS team turn on MOSS2007 to do this (it is not turned on today). Many thanks, I am still a newb at Sharepoint, but trying to learn quickly. Thanks, Jim

How to properly configure permissions so users can view, add, edit, and delete list items, but not w

I am trying to figure out how to properly setup security so that it can be configured at the top-level, and then inherited all the way through. Here is what I would like to do: Each user can view, add, edit, and delete list items - but, users cannot modify or delete web part pages. The only way I know how to do this is set Contribute from the top-down, and then go into each Site Pages library and set Read access. The problem is that I have 100 sites, and I was hoping there was a way I could set security at the top, and inherit downward. Rather than having to go into all 100 Site Pages library and set Read access. Is there a way to do this? Thanks in advance.

I a am new to sharepoint as you can tell this is my first post. I have several site collections and each of them has its own OU's with users in them. What  I want to know is that is it possible to create a site collection and have users that logs in only see users within their own OU's and not other users in active directory.

Take site offline for all users except administrator

Is it possible to take site offline for all users, but give admins ability to use and edit it? Maybe something like app_offline.htm, but not for all users. Thanks a lot.
