How do I get Decimal.Parse to stop taking current culture into account?   I tried the following but I get an error saying “String was not recognized as a valid DateTime.   Thread.CurrentThread.CurrentCulture = new CultureInfo("en-us");   Decimal.Parse("5000.000,51",CultureInfo.InvariantCulture)

Creating Sites/Lists/List Items under Current User Context in SharePoint By Using SPUserToken

Usually we do this by performing the action under RunWithElevatedPrivileges method and updating the listitem using SPListItem.SystemUpdate() method (see here). but this approach has its own flaws like (RunWithElevatedPrivileges will run under system account, we cannot use SystemUpdate for SPSite,SPWeb,SPList, since it runs under system we will "CreatedBy" by as SystemAccount).

SqlServer - Windows Account to install Application from Gallery

Referring to this tutorial: http://www.asp.net/webmatrix/tutorials/download-and-install-an-asp-net-application

I selected umbraco cms and got this wizard:

I already have Standard Sql Server 2005 on my machine which I wanted to us for above DB and not SqlExpress.

I did not remember "sa" account pwd nor I use explicitly any account to connect to my Sqlserver. I use Windows Authentication account i.e implicit authentication. So I created new account and gave all rights and used it in the above wizard and was able to install the database after some struggle.

My question is: What if I want to use my Windows Account to install the database above? Why the wizard don't have any option to use Windows Integrated Authentication?

Note: I can create the DB with external user I created, just looking specifics for using Windows Authentication for above installation.

Wrong Account being used to access files - Help - No Impersonation

I run a simple .aspx website on a Windows Server 2008 machine.

There is NO impersonation, and System.Security.Principal.WindowsIdentity.GetCurrent().Name returns NT AUTHORITY\NETWORK SERVICE, which it the account which the application pool runs. In my web.config, I have <authentication mode="Forms">.

I tried to test the security of the application and server by removing file permissions to the .aspx files. I was greatly worried when the website continued to run without problem (it should not have been able to read the .aspx files).

By turning on file level auditing, I discovered that the .aspx files were being read by the machine$ account (if the machine is called Serv1, then the files would be read by the Serv1$ account, which seems to have access to all files on the local machine).

Is this a security breach or is this behaviour by design ?

Please can somebody assist, as I am worried.

Users getting logged out because HttpContext.Current is null

We've  been trying to fix this one for a couple years, and I'm just out of ideas, so any help is really appreciated!

We've got a fairly large, complex web application that uses Forms Authentication to authenticate users.  Throughout the application we store and retrieve information about users in the Session object, and in some cases in cookies.  In a couple places we check for the existence of the context, and if it's null we send the user back to the login page to re-establish the session.

Just a quick run-down of this web app: C#, .NET 3.5, IIS 6, ASP.NET State Service to manage session

As for the session timer, we use our own home-grown timer, which is basically a client-side timer, which is backed up by a check to the SQL database to see when their last activity was.  This seems to work well for us.  It's not perfect, but it allows us to notify the user before the session times out, and allows us to be certain we're not logging a user out before their 60 minutes of inactivity is up.

What's happening is that certain users are being logged out after just a few minutes.  We've eliminated the timer as a cause and believe what's happening is the HttpContext.Current is null, so the user is logged out.  We do not know why the HttpContext.Current is null, and I underst

Registering controls of current assembly object reference NOT set error

Hi There,

I have created a simple ASP.net Web Application (2.0) and have added a web user control.

Now in my page I have added this control but I have registered like this,

<%@ Register Assembly="WebApplication1" Namespace="WebApplication1" TagPrefix="Custom" %>

Which means I want to access all the controls in my current Web Application project

Then I have added my user control like this,

<Custom:MyUserControl ID="MyUserControl1" runat="server" PublicProperty="Hello" />

Every thing is fine but when I execute the project, NO control on my user control gets "instantiated" and thus I receive error "Object Reference Not Set"

Note that My Control has,

1) Public property PublicProperty as String

2) 1 Label control

In Load Event Handler I am setting Text property of Label Control to PublicProperty. Here object reference NOT set error occurs (which means Label control is NOT initialized).

I don't want to register my control using Src, TagPrefix etc. Any ideas?

Problem with changing language using culture info

I'm using the following msdn article to use different languages in my web application:

I'm following the instructions step by step in VS 2010, and it creates the resource files exactly how it's supposed to.

However, when I run the program it just doesn't apply it. I don't see the different values from the resource file.

If I leave my resource file name as sample.aspx.resx, it works. But when I change it to sample.aspx.en-us.resx, it doesn't work. I'm supplying culture from the aspx page's Culter and UICulture properties. I'm being very careful in choosing the correct file name, as that could be the issue,  but it just doesn't work. I also tried changing the culture in the backend code this way:

Data Security: Stop SQL Injection Attacks Before They Stop You

To execute a SQL injection attack, a hacker writes a Web page that captures text in a textbox to be used to execute a query against a database. The hacker enters a malformed SQL statement into the textbox that causes the back-end database to perform operations the owners did not intend it to perform, like making unauthorized updates. This article explains how you can protect against the all too common SQL injection attack in your own database. The steps covered include data validation, proper exception handing, and much more.

.NET GUI Bliss: Streamline Your Code and Simplify Localization Using an XML-Based GUI Language Parse

While Windows Forms in .NET has lots of cool features, if you're used to MFC, there are a couple of things you'll find missing, like doc/view, command routing, and UI update. The .NET answer to this is a code generator that writes new code for every single element. But there's a better way. In this article, Paul DiLascia shows how to develop an XML-based GUI language parser for .NET that lets you code resources, menus, toolbars, and status bars in XML instead of with procedural code. He also shows how a user interface based on XML can easily be localized using standard .NET techniques, and introduces his very own library, MotLib.NET, with lots of GUI goodies for your programming pleasure.

How to stop the repeated database queries for roles

Hello, friends,

We have a web application using VS 2008, c#. We try to filter siteMap nodes based on security roles. We have our customized the mether GetRolesForUser() in RoleProvider class to determine a user's role. In this method, roles will be returned by querying an SQL Server database.

However, we found that each time a page was loaded/refershed, this  GetRolesForUser() was called, and the database would be queried. This is too MUCH and expensive.

We thought the roles should be queried only once when a user logs in. After that, role info should be stored somewhere for this user, rather than query DB all the time.

Any ideas, reference paper, snipet,...,?

Thanks a lot!
