javascript issues converting ASP.NET application from VS2008 to VS2010

I have encountered some javascript issues migrating an ASP.NET web application from Visual Studio 2008 to VS 2010.

1. When retrieving a value from a control, the following javascript syntax worked in VS2008:

In VS2010, I have to change everything to the following format:

2. I use Master pages extensively.  In VS2008, when the ASP.NET web form is displayed in the browser, the ID for a control in a child form in the content placeholder uses the following convention:

In VS2010, the ID for a control in the placeholder uses the following convention:

The "ctl00" is dropped.  Wherever I have used

has to be replaced with

Is there an alternative to modifying reams of javascript code?

Are there any other javascript surprises I should anticipate during the conversion?

Any issues or concerns in converting VS2008 project to VS2010

I have been working on this project for a few months in VS2008.. now that we are getting closer to the end, one of the other programmers has been working and doing his in VS2010, so when i try to open his projects in VS2008 it just shows up as XML.. so i have to open in VS2010.. thats fine..

But if i try to open my project in 2010, it prompts to use the conversion wizard..

Should i be concerned or are there any issues with doing the conversion? Being the end of the project, i dont want to cause issues at this point.. So would like to know if converting the project file at this stage in our project a good idea? Will there be any issues using his code with mine since they were developed in 2 different versions..

Converting Crystal Report 2005 to 2008 - Please Tell Me I'm Stupid :)

Hello peeps,

I have a series of Crystal Reports that I can view/edit using Visual Studio 2005 with no issues.  The method I'm using is to simply click on the *.rpt file and it opens in the VS crystal editor with no issues.  The problem I'm having is that we are upgrading to Visual Studio 2008, and when I open the *.rpt file in 2008 it opens as a binary file.  I guess I'm used to everything else in Visual Studio prompting me to convert the older version to the newer version, so I'm not sure what to do in this case.

Is this normal?  Is there an easy conversion method that I'm simply overlooking?  Am I screwed?  Who invented liquid soap, and why?

Answers to any of these questions would be greatly appreciated...

Adding a Chart to a Local Report

Dear All

I have created a report as a local report which looks like this:

I'm trying to add a chart to this report and I'd like it to display something like this (so sorry for the crude drawing):

It seems like it should be quite straight forward but I've tried dragging the fields into the chart all different ways and can't make it happen. I'm using Visual Studio 2010 and here's what my list of fields from the dataset look like:

I thought ObservationYear would be the series and all the other fields would be the data but this doesn't work. It produces a chart like this which wasn't what I was hoping for:

Please could you help me understand what it is I'm doing wrong? I'm very grateful for any help/advice you might be able to provide.

Kind regards

Local Report - nested objects

I tried using =Fields!HomeAddress.Value.Zip as mentioned on this site

but couldn't get it working. Its returns #Error for this field.

I am using visual studio 2010 for developing this report

Please help.

VS2010: Upgrading projects from VS2008

I just upgraded my VS2008 solution to VS2010 and have run into a problem. I have a .NET C# application that references a managed C++ DLL, which in turn links to a native static library. All this works just fine. However, whenever I attempt to run the C# application, Visual Studio claims that the native static library is out of date and must be recompiled. It does that even after I've just compiled the native library. When allowing VS2010 to build the native project, the only thing it does is this: 1>  LibraryName.vcxproj -> C:\Bleh\Blah\LibraryName.lib Is there a way I can figure out what's causing VS2010 to think the project is out of date?

VS2008 BIDS Report export to Excel not grouping the same as VS2005

I have a report that I created in VS2005 BIDS and got it to export to Excel to group/subtotal the same way it does in the BIDS report window.  Now I have copied the .rdl files to a VS2008 project, open it in VS2008 BIDS, made NO changes to the report format and the exported Excel file is combining what should be the 2nd and 3rd groups into 1 group.  In the BIDS window, the grouping is working correctly.  Does anyone have any ideas what has changed between 2005 & 2008 that may cause this problem?  Thanks in advance.

VS2008 Report Control and remote server

Hello.I've done a lot of searching on this and can't find anything that works.I am using VS2008.  I put a ReportViewerControl on a web form (vb).  I've pointed the ReportServerURL to the server and the ReportPath to a very simple test report.  I have IIS6 on my dev box and the Report Server (SQL 2005) is on another server.I am also using some sample code I have found for passing the credentials to run the report. When I try running the page, I am receiving:Unable to connect to the remote serverThe attempted operation is not supported for the type of object referencedI need to be able to serve reports on an Internet faced page that are located on a server that is different from the IIS server.  Is it not possible to run a server report from a web page served from IIS on another server?I seem to be having authentication issues which I can not resolve. Thanks for any help.

Setting Local Report Data Source

I am a college professor and am updating my undergraduate database course to use Reporting Services as the reporting tool.  The student labs cannot run IIS so I assume that using server-based reports is out and am looking at using local reports and the VB ReportViewer control. For several reasons (waaayyy too long to list here) I do not wish to use the drag-and-drop datasets that seem to be the core of the ADO.Net 2005 architecture.  Instead I prefer to create connections, commands, and datasets in code and to set data binding and manage data updates in code.  All command objects map to SQL Server stored procedures. I need to be able to do the same thing with reporting services local reports but have run into a brick wall in getting the report and/or report viewer to recognize a dataset table created in code. I would like to do the following (which worked very well in VB 2003 using Crystal Reports): 1. Design report--I am willing to accept the requirement to manually set the Value property of controls since I don't want to set data sources to .xsd files. 2. Instantiate a report object at run time and set it's data source to a dataset table.  The underlying query that fills the table would have to contain all columns needed by the report's controls. 3. Set the report object to be the LocalReport for a ReportViewer control. Can anyone point me to a tutorial or walk-through tha

Problems deploying Report in Local Server (localhost)

OK, I'm kind of new to SQL Server 2008 and I'm having issues trying to deploy a report in my local server.

Basically, I installed SQL Server 2008 R2 in my personal desktop and because of this, I thought no Service Account were necessary since I was going to be the only one accesing it; anyway; I've created a set of reports and everything works fine; but when I try to deploy them, they won't go through.

I open a browser and type http:\\localhost\reportserver and it actually requests me for a password; the username is already populated, which is the name of my computer, but then for the password, I didn't set up any password for anything, during the installation and if I put my computer password, it doesn'y work either, after three attemps, the browser simply goes blank.

I'm sure this might be a very basic issue, but I've been trying to look for answer, online, through forums etc; and no good luck yet...

Thanks in advanced for all your help!
