SSRS 2008 migration issue

Posted By:      Posted Date: April 14, 2011    Points: 0   Category :Windows Application

After migrating reports from SSRS 2005 report to SSRS 2008  using visual studio 2008 report designer we lost filter conditions for reports. In tablix property window we are able to see only one filter condition out of 8 filters defined in orginal source file.

When we check RDL file the filters exists and when we deploy the report to sql server 2008 it works good.

When we try to edit report in 2008 report designer and save it it removes all the filters.  When we deploy the report after editing in report designer it shows partial data.  We are using filters to satisfy in condition

SSRS 2008 Conditional Column Visibility Whitespace Issue

Hi Everyone,I am using IIF statements to show/hide tablix columns based upon a parameter value. These statements are used as expressions in the visibility properties for the columns. If the parameter value is one that causes the column to be hidden, the coulmn does not appear on the report, but there is whitespace in its place.I have used this functionality very frequently in SSRS 2005 without the whitespace issue. The 2005 report automagically closed this whitespace up by moving the column to the right of the hidden one to now be adjacent to the column to the left of the hidden one at rendering. This is what i need to happen now in 2008.Has anyone else experienced this? If so, would you please share your solution? I am getting extremely frustrated by this...Thanks!!

SSRS 2008 web portal issue, urgent!!

I created a report using reporting services 2008, now I want to upload the report into the web portal so that users can start running the report from the web browser. When I opened the http://server1/ReportServer url from the browser, I just see the below, I installed full version of reporting services 2008, so I am trying to figure out what piece is missing from the installation. IO queuing issue after migration from 2005 to 2008

Hi,   Are there any functional changes to the number of outstanding IOs to a LUN from 2005 to SQL 2008? 2008 seems to have a limit of 128 outstanding IOs to a DB volume where SQL 2005 does not. I am struggling to find any SQL tuning parameters that would impact how the db can read/write to disk? Help/comments appreciated.

SSRS in place upgrade from 2005 to 2008 issue

I did an inplace upgrade of SSRS 2005 to 2008 and now the reports are throwing the following error. The reports were all working fine and there is a datasource with the name 'Data Source Name' without the '_'.  Please help.

  • An error has occurred during report processing. (rsProcessingAborted)
    • The data source 'Data_Source_Name' cannot be found. (rsDataSourceNotFound)

2008 SSRS (R2) Oracle Client issue

We have installed SSRS 2008 R2 on 64 bit windows 2003 server, and the 64 bit oracle client to connect to oracle databases.  The tnsping, and SQL plus are working from the server.  But when we trying to access the same database from report manager using new Datasource, we will get the below error.

"Attempt to load Oracle client libraries threw BadImageFormatException. This problem will occur when running in 64 bit mode with the 32 bit Oracle client components installed."

We have installed only the 64 bit oracle client, and the Oracle folders are given with proper permissions to access it for SQL serving account which is used to run SSRS.

Any help greatly apprciated.  Thank you.

SSRS 2005 to 2008R2 custom code migration issue

We have an SSRS 2005 report that we upgraded to 2008R2 with custom code in the report properties code tab that no longer works.  We checked permission setting in the report server config files, checked if the data set was passig nulls and it is not, looked to see if we ignored the error if the report would render the correct value anyway despite the error and it did not, tried different code variations and referencing different system libraries without luck....we are truly baffled.  The only thing that does work is setting the total to 0 and removing the loop through the jsColl to compute the total.  Here is the code that used to work on 2005.  Any ideas why it does not work on 2008R2?  We call it in an expression =Code.getTotal()

SSRS 2008 formatting issue - different in visual studio preview/pdf/excel vs. internet explorer

The formatting of the report is perfect when viewed in Visual studio and also after exporting it to pdf or excel. But when I deployed my solution and opened it on IE/Firefox there is a lot of problem in formatting. Specifically the row height is giving me a problem. I manually entered them to be 0.1in and made the CanGrow field as false to force that row height but some rows in the tablix expand ( to 0.15in, which is the height of my header). This is true for a matrix as well. Is there is a feature to lock the row height in IE o any other web browser?

Font/letter spacing issue when printing from SSRS 2008 report page

We are developing reports in SSRS 2008.  When printing from the SSRS report page, we are seeing that that some text is "clumping" together or spaced oddly. I have tried a variety of printers so it's not printer-specific. If you export from the SSRS page to PDF or to Word and then print, everything prints as expected.

Nothing is as good as real text/names/data, but to reproduce, simply create several text boxes with...

I used several common fonts...
Arial, 10 pt (SSRS 2008 default)
Times New Roman, 12 pt (Office 2003 default)
Calibri, 11 pt (Office 2007 default)
Verdana, 11 pt
Tahoma, 11 pt

In the example above, I used normal weight, nothing fancy... If you use bold and underline, which is common for a page/column header or footer, this issue is even more apparent.

It feels similar to the following issue: https://connect.microsoft.com/SQLServer/feedback/details/482312/ssrs-report-font-rendering-issue

A workaround would obviously be to export to PDF and then print, but these are steps that our end users shouldn't have to (and won't want to) put up with to produce reports/invoices/etc. that ultimately go

Migration Issue to 2005 & 2008

Back in 2002, I wrote a program which utilized SQL-DMO to build "If Exists/Drop" and "Create" Scripts for me, and it's worked great until I migrated to 2005 then immediately to 2008.  I've briefly read up on switching to SMO and I'm going have to learn SMO unless someone knows of a tool that can create these scripts for me.  Does anyone know if SQL has a new tool for this or maybe a third party software.  I'm so busy with our flagship product, that it would really be terrible if I had to learn SMO right now and rewrite a script creator.

Thanks so much in advance.

Strange issue with a huge SSRS 2008 report (supposed to return 3 million records)

NOTE: The strange part (as mentioned in title) will come in the end.

I am running a SSRS 2008 report which fetches 3 million records from a remote server. After around 1 hour the report processing stops and I see an error icon on the lft bottom of the browser window. When I click on that to see the error details it shows some PageRequestManagerSQLErrorException with an unknown error message with code 12029 (sometimes 12002).

When I see the reportserver logs there is an error message logged in it which says "Microsoft.ReportingServices.Library.ReportServerDatabaseUnavailableException: The report server cannot open a connection to the report server database. A connection to the database is required for all requests and processing. ---> Microsoft.ReportingServices.Library.ReportServerDatabaseUnavailableException: The report server cannot open a connection to the report server database. A connection to the database is required for all requests and processing. ---> System.InvalidOperationException: Timeout expired.  The timeout period elapsed prior to obtaining a connection from the pool.  This may have occurred because all pooled connections were in use and max pool size was reached."

The <DatabaseQueryTimeOut> value in the report server configuration file is already having a value set to 7200 seconds(2 hours).<

Issue with Excel and Word Export - SSRS 2008

Hi there,

I have created fairy simple report having a table in body section and Header, Footer. I have set the Report Properties

Orientation - Landscape

Paper Size - Custom

Width - 11in & Height - 8 in

Margins - Left 0.25 in , Right 0.25 in, Top 0.5 in, Botton 0.5 in

Issue NO 1: When i export the report to Excel, it takes margin as Left 0.75 in , Right 0.75 in, Top 1 in, Botton 1 in, because of this some part of my Report is cut. what should i do to keep margins of Excel as per margins set in RDL.

Issue No 2: In Footer excel shows Page 1 of 1 for all the pages

Expression used :

"Page" & Globals!PageNumber & " of " & Globals!TotalPages;

Issue No 3: when i export the Report to word, it does not consider landscape and show only middle part of report, cut rest of the report data.

SSRS 2008 w/CU6 - Parameter Default Value Refresh Issue.

We are experiencing trouble with a parameter default value (parameter 2) not refreshing when it's parents parameter value is updated (parameter 1).  The problem parameter (2) has specified values in the available values, and has a dataset that loads the default values depending a parameter above it.

The first time that parameter 1 is selected, parameter 2 is updated with the correct default value... BUT, when parameter 1 is changed, parameter 2 does not update.

If I change the problem parameter's (2) available values to the dataset where the default values come from, it works fine, but that doesn't fill the business requirement of this report.  I also tried setting parameter 2 properties to "always refresh" but that doesn't appear to refresh the default values.

What else can I try?

Page numbering issue in SSRS 2008 R2 when converting to PDF

For rdl files created in SSRS 2008, the page numbering will render Page 1 of 0 but only for PDF.  Using OverallTotalPages instead of TotalPages only works on a 2008 R2 server.  On 2008, OverallTotalPages causes an error.

How do I get the page numbering to work on PDF without using OverallTotalPages?  I need to be able to change the files, do testing, then updgrade the SSRS instance.  I can't break existing SSRS 2008 reports.

Sharepoint 2010 and SSRS 2008 R2 deployment issue and Globals!ReportName issue

1. Does Sharepoint 2010 in integrated mode Support =Globals!ReportName

Or is there any equivalent of the above expression to work in sharepoint

2. I tried to Deploy Reports from BIDS 2008 to Sharepoint 2010. No matter what settings i choose for OverWriteDatsources, it always redeploys the Datasources.
