RESTful service call results in status code 409 - why?

Posted By:      Posted Date: April 14, 2011    Points: 0   Category :Windows Application

My RESTful WCF service has methods to retrieve and update an object.  The retrieval works just fine but the update (or PUT) doesn't.

Here's the service interface and implementation:

    [ServiceContract]
    public interface ICandidate
    {
        [OperationContract]
        Common.RestResponse<Person> GetPersonByIndex(string index);

        [OperationContract]
        void UpdatePerson(string id, Person person);
    }
[AspNetCompatibilityRequirements(RequirementsMode=AspNetCompatibilityRequirementsMode.Required)]
    public class Candidate : ICandidate
    {
        [WebGet(UriTemplate = "/{index}",
                RequestFormat = WebMessageFormat.Json,
                ResponseFormat = WebMessageFormat.Json)]
        public Common.RestResponse GetPersonByIndex(string index)
        {
            Common.RestResponse result = new TWA.Common.RestResponse();

            int Index = 0;
            if (Int32.TryParse(index, out Index))
            {
                List list = PersonService.GetPersonList(true, true, true);
                if (list.Count > Index)
                {
                    result.Success = true;
                    result.Count = list.Count;
                    result.Data = list[Index];
                }
            }

Windows Service crashing on call to unmanaged code, even though console app version works

I have a C# program that at some point calls 2 functions from an unmanaged dll using p/invoke.  Everything works fine when I'm running in a console app.  When I compile the same program as a windows service and run it, it crashes.  The console app and service should be identical as far as my code is concerned... all either program does is create an object from another assembly of mine and run a Start() method on it.

I have used VS2010 to debug the managed and unmanaged code, and when I step through the Console app everything looks great.  When I attach the debugger to the service, i can step through the first function in the unmanaged code, control returns to the managed code, and then later when it comes to the point where it calls the second unmanaged function, the process terminates immediately before the debugger steps into the first line of unmanaged code.  There are no exceptions that I can see, and the only thing written to the event log is the generic "service terminated unexpectedly" message.  Running "sc query" on the command line lets me know the win32_exit_code is 1067.

Im running everything in .net 4, on winxp 32bit.  The serivce is running as Local System ideally, but the same behavior exists when I run it under my user account.

Hash-based Message Authentication Code in WCF 4.0 RESTful service

What is an ideal way of implementing "Hash-based Message Authentication Code" in WCF 4.0 REST, with out putting logic inside each service operation logic?  Can you give me an example of using ServiceAuthenticationManager or some kind of service behavior to accomplish this?

Thanks.

I have a question which might be a beginner's question in .Net.

call JavaScript - jQuery code from ASP.NET Server-Side

jQuery got so close to me lately that I can see myself adding the scripts to my project almost unconsciously. The thing is, jQuery is very useful for me, in almost all situations and it has been a do or die enhancement for all my project since I first put my hands on it.

Of course while using it, you encounter few situations which need a bit of research to solve, mostly when you are trying to combine it with some other technologies like: UpdatePanels and ASP.NET Ajax. For instance there are many situations when I would like to run some jQuery magic based on some decision that I make on the server side.

C++ and ATL: Use ATL Server Classes to Expose Your Unmanaged C++ Code as an XML Web Service

Throughout this issue, you'll read all about the promise of Web Services and how the .NET Framework enables Web Service development. Many people will also be building their Web Services atop C++ code and frameworks like ATL Server, particularly when performance is paramount. In this article, the authors show how fully functional Web Services are built using ATL Server and Visual Studio .NET. Beginning with unmanaged C++ classes, they add ATL attributes that make the code work over HTTP.

A little background because I feel I have an out of the ordinary architecture in place and don't know if this is contributing to the problem.

We have an existing ASP.net application that is undergoing expansion.  The new functionality is all written in Silverlight 4.  As part of that expansion I gutted all the old Linq to SQL and put Entity Framework 4 into place.  To do this I created a standard .net Class Library and added my edmx files there.  Naturally, the business entities created by this cannot be used in Silverlight.  So I created a Silverlight Class Library and added all the business entities to that Silverlight Class Library as linked files.  I changed the name space to be the same.

So I have the following assembly / namespaces

Company.Project.Dal.csproj / Company.Project.Entities (.net 4 class library)

Company.Project.Entities.csproj / Company.Project.Entities (SL4 class library)

With this architecture I was able to share my business entities with my SL enabled web services, my asp.net projects, my silverlight projects.  Really it's a beautiful thing.

Once this was done I added "message" classes to Company.Project.Dal and again shared them with the other entites using linked files.  These messages are things like MyObjectRequest; they are class

Change the Workflow Status through code

HI Folks,

I have a scenario where i need to develop a 6 stage approval workflow(sequential) using WWF and depoly it to sharepoint. Everythigns fine till here.

Now we look ahead to change the Status field on the documents library which actually has the Workflow Name as the column name and its value being In Progress, depending on the stage of approval. Like(Approved 1, Approved 2, Approved 3.)

And if rejected the status should be rejected than Completed. Any idea how can we update this column of the List item.

I have tried item[workflowProperties.Workflow.ParentAssociation.Name]="Approved 1";

But this throws an error saying input string is not in a correct format.

Any information would be of great help :)

Thanks

How to use ESB Transformation Service in .Net Code

Good day everyone, I am creating a .Net application which receives different XML files. Some of them need conevrsion from one format to another format. I have created some BizTalk maps for them. But I don't know how to use them in .Net code. I found some info that there is some ESB Transformation services in BizTalk, which could be call from .Net code. Can some one tell me some sample code or some article which explains that how will we use these ESB transformation Services? Thanx in advance.
